Vertu is taking a unique approach to that of the technology-obsessed mobile-telephone industry. Its concept is based on craftsmanship (i.e. uniquely customized handsets), style and service- in the same vein as luxury watch and jewellery manufacturers. Vertu Signature mobile phone is encased in metals from stainless steel to platinum and decorated with sapphires (vertu.com). The design reflects poise and stature. Hence, Vertu performs highly on the symbolic (i.e. expressive) level and giving the perception of being more a piece of art, rather than just a high technological (i.e. instrumental) mobile phone (Sanderson, 2002). Added values such as 24 hrs concierge service which can organise restaurant, travel and hotel bookings are included in the purchase. Its flagship store opened in Paris 2002, and now exists in over 70 countries worldwide. It also has a well-developed online...

...Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Research Summary Introduction The research summary describes in detail how the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) conducts the trend analysis of the YRBSS data. The paper outline how the sampling is conducted by the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey a body formed by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The YRBSS is a body entrusted to monitor the health risk behavior associated with the six categories causative of morbidity and mortality among youth (Kann). These leading causes can be summarized as the behavior contributing to unintentional injuries, alcohol and other drug use, use of tobacco, sexual behavior leading to STIs and unintended pregnancy, unhealthy dietary behavior and physical inactivity. Stratified sampling The recent sampling assumes two- stage cluster sample design in the year 2013. The stratified two-stage cluster sample design presumes two stages. In the first stage the list of schools are stratified in accordance to the importance of the demographic variables, accompanied by replacement schools in case the targeted fails to participate. Then followed by of more intact class of the target or the participating school. This is in attempt to produce a representative sample of public and private school of students in grade 9-12. The sample target population of 39 states and 21 large urban school district of public and private school students. The sampling for the 2013 national YRBSS...

...designed to reveal a target audience’s range of behavior and the perceptions that drive it with reference to specific topics or issues. The results of qualitative research are descriptive rather than predictive.” ("What Is Qualitative Research?” 2015). Quantitative research “is about asking people for their opinions in a structured way so that you can produce hard facts and statistics to guide you. To get reliable statistical results, it’s important to survey people in fairly large numbers and to make sure they are a representative sample of your target market.” ("What Is Quantitative Research?” 2015). There also are descriptive and statistical approach’s in this paper that will help with understand what is best for you business research. When constructing a business research there are several sampling methods that can be used. Some sampling methods would be simple random sampling, systematic sampling, cluster sampling and quota sampling and etc. The article I chose to do is called Qualitative and quantitative methods for sampling zooplankton in shallow coastal estuaries. “Many different devices are used for sampling zooplankton. Every sampler has its advantages and limitations in terms of sampling ease and efficiency, which is why hydro biologists search for devices that could increase sampling efficiency and decrease human effort (Nunez et al. 2008).” In this article they used the plankton net sampling method and it is used to sample the lake or pond.” These sampling methods all...

...Business Ethics Reflection Katie Bernt XMGT/216 November 1st, 2015 Nicole Dinan Business Ethics Reflection Introduction A company I used to work for carried many different brands of high end skin care and make up. At this company, it was very important to monitor the testers that were made available for the clients to try on in the store or to take home in a small sample. Many of the brands did not distribute any or enough of their products in tester form; rather, it was common for us to have to “damage” a product out of what was called “live inventory” for use as a tester. That meant that we could take a product off of the shelf, scan it out of “live inventory”, place a tester sticker on it and use that as the tester. When I use the term “high end” as it relates to the skin care and other products that we sold, I am talking about quality and price point. It was not uncommon to have facial serums that were $500 or more, along with fragrances that were close to $1000, and cosmetics where the average price point for a lipstick or eyes shadow was around $40. Tester usage was not as closely monitored by the management as it should have been. The policy of the store was to use a tester until there was almost nothing left. The policy of the visual merchandising department, along with some of the brand managers in the store, was to never have a tester that was less than half full on the shelf. It is easy to see that the conflicting nature of these policies allowed...

...Critical Behavior In Research Princess Gunthrope University of Phoenix In research it is very important to adhere to ethical norms, these values ensure the proper and initial aim of research is carried out. The law of ethics in research prohibit researchers from falsifying information or misrepresenting information to participants. Often times “research involves a great deal of cooperation and coordination among many different people in different disciplines and institutions, ethical standards promote the values that are essential to collaborative work, such as trust, accountability, mutual respect, and fairness”(Sent, 2003). The critical behavior in research analysis will analyze an ethical issue raised in the article, The Causal Generalization Paradox: The Case of Treatment Outcome Research, written by Graham L. Staines. The article by Staines discusses the causal generalization paradox. The ethical issue at the heart of the article is the use of improper sampling procedures. With the vast amount of research taking place and random assignment techniques, less of a priority is being placed upon random sampling. According to Staines,2008 experimental research typically selects units, in part or in whole, at the convenience of the researcher. The researcher then makes no attempt, or often times only a limited attempt, to ensure that this sample is an accurate representation of some larger group or population. This form...

...Throughout the many issues in the workplace, diversity is an issue that needs immediate attention. Our culture is continuously evolving and with that being said diversity in our work environment should be evolving as well. It has been said, “Top performing companies have long recognized that diversity is good for business. But a just released report from The Economist Intelligence Unit finds that a new definition of workforce diversity is emerging. It’s no longer just about avoiding race, ethnicity, and gender discrimination, or even compliance with legal regulations. Diversity now encompasses values, meaning what motivates someone to join a company, embody organizational passions, and be productive for a long time.” (Galer, 2014) It is crucial for an organization to be diverse, lack of diversity can cause several issues in the workplace such as miscommunication, unproductivity, and creates a hostile work environment. By managing the problems with diversity the organization would benefit greatly in many ways. There are many reasons for why the issue of diversity needs to be addressed in the workplace. Specifically in the organization I work in there are many problems with diversity, many of the workers in my organization have brought up the fact that the race is predominantly white, it is also made aware that the engineers for the company are males and the females in the office are usually the subject of jokes and labeled as ‘non workers’. Since the site I currently work in...

...Convenience Sample A convenience sample is one of the main types of non-probability sampling methods. A convenience sample is made up of people who are easy to reach. Consider the following example. A pollster interviews shoppers at a local mall. If the mall was chosen because it was a convenient site from which to solicit survey participants and/or because it was close to the pollster's home or business, this would be a convenience sample. Let’s say that a researcher and professor at a University is interested in studying drinking behaviors among college students. The professor teaches a sociology 101 class to mostly college freshmen and decides to use his or her class as the study sample. He or she passes out surveys during class for the students to complete and hand in. This would be an example of a convenience sample because the researcher is simply using subjects that are convenient and readily available. This sample would not be representative of all college students and therefore the researcher would not be able to generalize his or her findings to all college students. The students enrolled in the sociology 101 class, for example, could be heavily weighted toward a certain characteristic (mostly freshmen, for instance). While the results of this study could not be generalized to the larger college student population, the results of the survey could still be useful. For example, the professor could use the results to refine certain questions on the survey or come up...

M.B.A. (Master of Business Administration), August 2010, Graduate School, Bangkok University. A study of factors influencing purchase decision in an online jewelry store (63 pp.) Advisor of Independent Study Dr. Paul TJ James ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to find factors influencing purchase decision in an online jewelry store, in order to help Precium Oy Ltd. to prepare its launch of a web store selling silver jewelry. A quantitative online survey was conducted to Finnish Facebook users, who were connected with the owners of Precium Oy Ltd. Out of 502 questionnaires sent, 206 responses were collected in the time of one week. The findings of the study indicate that reliability is the most important upper-level factor influencing purchase decision in an online jewelry store. More detailed factors which create reliability were found, such as familiar payment methods, appearance of the online store and third party recommendations. From the products and services perspective, the appearance of the jewelry was the most important factor influencing...

...service to suit their needs. Employee satisfaction: By carrying out staff surveys and questionnaires the HR will be able to identify how happy and satisfied the employees feel within the workplace. This will help identify areas where more attention or investment is needed and may even help a potential problem from growing out of control. Training and support: By regularly asking staff if they feel they would like more training on a particular topic or asking them how effective they found their training, this will help the HR team make better plans for any future training. Question 3 Descriptive statistics includes statistical procedures that we use to describe the population we are studying. The data could be collected from either a sample or a population, but the results help us organize...

...to investigate "individual style and identity issues". In order to understand and explore audiences’ attitude and opinion to online news, quantitative analysis will be applied to this research. 2.2 Selection method 2.3.1 Interview or questionnaire? Questionnaire is one of the basic tools for quantitative analysis. According to Hansen, Cottle, Negrine and Newbold (1998:225-227), Questionnaire can be used to ‘collect data about current attitudes and opinions’ and to identify ‘who takes up these media and why’. The data that collected from a population of respondents can be used to ‘support to, or to negate hypotheses or propositions’, and sometimes only provide common information on ‘existing or changing patterns of behavior ’ (Hansen, Cottle, Negrine and Newbold, 1998:225). With respect to the interview, questionnaire has higher efficiency, and it can greatly save time, money and human operation (Lu, 2009: 21-22). What is more, the anonymous survey can reduce respondent’s psychological pressure, in order to collect more real information (Lu, 2009:21). Besides, this...

...multiple options to consider before enrolling into an agreement and Ace Cable is conducting research to persuade more people to sign on with the company. The research included defining the population from which the samples were collected. When it comes to the population and the different samples collected, the main goal is to focus on customers and provide outstanding services by conducting customer interviews, and surveys including group interviews of all ages. There are several methods that have taken place concerning collecting samples. The individual interviews we have collected were samples by applying surveys, from face to face interviews, in-store feedback, and telephone surveys. These surveys and interviews are conducted on a daily basis. These surveys are taking place in order to better our business when it comes to Ace cable. Individuals are completing surveys by voicing their opinions when it comes to the services and the channels that are selected. By having these surveys and interviews in place, we are getting the best feedback on what type of services they are looking forward to and what needs to be improved. In regard to group interviews, samples are being collected by surveys that are conducted at the time of the interviews. The surveys samples that are collected deals with expectations, feedback, and improved service. By having these different outcomes taking place, we can collect enough...

...CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Introduction The network services first enter Malaysia in the early 1990s during the management of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. The network service which perceived to be some kind of policies that may favor the political supporters was not accepted by some parties. Hence, the service was constraint to gain acceptance by public and did not had any improvement. After the Asian financial crisis which hit Malaysia on year 1997-1998, a new era of market was transformed. A standalone policy and regulatory body known as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was formed to bring new length of transparency and public liability to technology sector administration. Since then, broadband connections were widely spread in the market. For example, 1700 broadband connections were provided in approximately 800 libraries and expanded to public location where Internet can be found at most towns. As the government keep pushing toward the development of a broadband society, a large total number of broadband connections of all kind increases from 19,000 to over 200,000 in year 2002. While in year 2004, the government determines to set an amount of RM 800 million to build and improve broadband connectivity at countryside and outskirt. ...research than many other social populations tend to.However, since snowball involves participants to recruit other participants, I will use this method of research to explore common characteristics, traits and othe social factors of the Zoophilic group. So these participants would help me to break drown some of the natural barriers that prevent such zoophiles from taking relevant part of my research. Method My first step would be to recruit one or two units belong to the Zoophilic population that may be willing to identify themselves as zoophiles. So, I might find these units throughout some Zoophilic websites. This would be the best method to reach these elements. Then, I will use these units to find further units and so on until an enough sample size is met. So, I might be obtaining names and contact information from one participant to another one with their permission. The fact is that snowball sampling contains sensitive topics regardless of respondents private information. That is why, I should ask other individuals to pass along, flyers, emails and hand outs that contain critical contact information. So, I could prevent a violation of my respondents' confidentiality or an invasion of their privacy. In other words to maintain the ethical standard of my research, I should send my participants snowballing recruitment letters to be signed. This way I could obtain the written permission of my population elements to reveal their identities via a check list item. This is how a recruiting...
