Here at ABC Elementary School, we value each student’s success. We believe that community involvement benefits our students and gives them the motivation to go above and beyond their expected potential. Our staff for early childhood level, has come up with a Community Involvement Plan that will allow students, teachers, and family members to work together and create a striving learning environment. This involvement plan will include resources that will positively influence our students learning in our classrooms. Some volunteers have agreed to be apart of a program called, “ Reading for Success”. This program will allow volunteers, teachers, students, and parents to work together and create a fun learning environment. This resource was selected because the Jacksonville Public Library offers many activities that will be able correspond to the reading requirements our school has for our students.
Expected Outcomes
Each month the students will be required to read a selected book given by the teacher and librarian volunteer. The students will be given two weeks to read the book and will be required to write a brief report on their thoughts. At the end of each month our volunteer will form a day of activity based off our book. These days will allow parents to join as well and act as volunteers in our activities. Each month, our activities will vary, as will become more challenging for the students.

The present study compared the academic achievements of homeschooled children with children attending traditional public school. When the homeschooled group was divided into those who were taught from organized lesson plans (structured homeschoolers) and those who were not (unstructured homeschoolers), the data showed that structured homeschooled children achieved higher standardized scores compared with children attending public school. Exploratory analyses also suggest that the unstructured homeschoolers are achieving the lowest standardized scores across the 3 groups.
