The Porning of America
Pages 141-153
Reading Review #2

While reading “The Porning of America” article I felt that the authors had done an incredible amount of research to illustrate America’s sexual blooming in only a few brief pages. The article went into great detail about how America and its people have transformed form a society of closed door deviants to a more expressive and accepting culture. Their findings also show how our sexuality started in the home and how the home has taken back the power of its own sexuality. Using transforming forms of media the authors gathered data using historical texts and current media to spin their story and form their thesis. Reading this article was eye opening and gave new light to the struggle that many went through to make this transformation possible. A major strength of the article is the authors use of detail in the examples used in the article. More specifically in the topic discussing porn’s growth in society and its acceptance in modern film. The authors start by diving into the movie Deep Throat and giving an in depth look at the actors and background of the movie. The movie was still pornographic film that somehow found its way out of the snuff film theaters and into many main stream theaters across America. More surprising was the viewers of the movie which included A-list stars, comedians, and politicians. The authors than began to describe how Linda Boreman the starlet of the film was forced into the role and the abusive life she had been stuck in (Sarracino 146). Even with this negativity surrounding the film it was a huge success and seemed to open the door to porn in major motion pictures. We are then taken out of the porn industry and dropped right into mainstream Hollywood where nudity had become intertwined the plots motion pictures. Pretty Baby, and Blame it on Rio are two examples given to express the normalization of nudity in front of the camera (Sarracino 147). These were important films because it took porn completely away from the shadows and set it firmly in our living rooms. Despite the authors detail we are giving very little emotion and the article only seems to be focused on one point of view. This is especially apparent in the finding about child pornography, the authors almost exclusively focus on the Olsen twins. This may have been done to demonstrate America’s obsession with the twins, but by no means does it make the topic exclusive for the entire population. To fully dive into the topic of child pornography you can not solely focus on the icons by which society follows, but rather the ripples that they create. During the time the Olsen twins were at there peak popularity there could have easily had been millions of others examples for the authors to explore, but only focusing on one made their discussion feel less informed. This article can best be described by social control because the porn industry has for the past two hundred years been at the front lines fighting to be a credible business fighting in for it place in society. During the civil war generals would burn pornographic material so it would not corrupt the camp (Sarracino 142), now most people would not think twice of the material that was available back then. Every time the government or our own moral fiber gave into the porn industry was there to quickly fill the gap. America has gradually become more and more accepting of its kinkier side and this relaxing of social construction has made porn an accepted industry. In conclusion whether you accept it or not porn has become part of our everyday lives. By consuming todays media America has confirmed its desire to view pornographic material of all kinds. The only issue is that this behavior may end the industry that fought so hard for the freedom it now has.

It is generally used in reference to individuals who are presumednot yet of marriageable ageor between adults who will presumably marryeventually, but who are engaging insexual activityprior to marriage.Sex ispleasurable, but in God's view, the primary purpose of sex is not recreation, but rather re-creation. In other words, sex is for reproduction. God does notlimit sex to married couples to rob pleasure from those who are unmarried.Rather, God commands against premarital sex in order to protect unmarriedpeople from unwanted pregnancies, from children born to parents who donot want them, and to protect children from parents who are not preparedfor them. Imagine, for a moment, a world without premarital sex. Therewould be no sexually-transmitted diseases, there would be no un-wedmothers, there would be no unwanted pregnancies, there would be noabortions, etc. According to the Bible, abstinence is God's only policy when itcomes to premarital sex. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, givessexual relations the proper value, and most importantly abstinence honorsGod.   Thus, as defined in the dictionary, an urge or shall we say, thoughts of manifesting them, is sex. (The Bible calls this lust) To have physicalintercourse is sex. Juvenile Sex Offenders Research Paper

...Alternative Solutions to Juvenile Sex Offender Registration and Incarceration Introduction Whenever sex offenders are referenced in the news, they are portrayed as horrible monsters. People who hurt others despite knowing better. There is, however, another face to the perpetrators of sexual offenses. This face belongs to the juveniles who make up roughly one-third of the reported sexual offenses against minors (“VII. Sex Offender Laws,” n.d.). These offenders are usually between the ages of eighteen and twelve. Twenty-three percent of the offending juveniles were under the age of the eighteen and roughly 3.7 percent of the juveniles were under the age of twelve. The age at which these crimes seem to peak is fourteen (“VII. Sex Offender Laws,” n.d.). Many of these children don’t know any better. The juvenile sex offenders are often victims themselves. Many were victims of maltreatment, or exposed to pornography, drug addiction, alcoholism, or poor role models. A sad fact is that almost 80 percent of these offenders have, themselves, been sexually abused and they don’t know any better than to do unto others what was done to them. Animal Boredom

...It was the crinkling sound again; this time the squirrel was much closer to the peanut bag lying next to my window. I tried shooing it away, but it wasn’t scared anymore. I opened the window and the window’s creaking sound scared the squirrel away. Although it looked totally scared, it was still roaming around the window as if it were bored to tears. Seeing this, a stroke of happiness rushed through my face and I knew I had found what I was looking for: boredom in animals, the topic that this paper focuses on. The study of animal boredom has now become a wide area of scientific research. Until recently, the dominant belief was that the study of boredom could not be attached to any natural sciences since animal boredom could not be experimentally...

Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My College Composition

...anything in College Composition. I thought to myself that I could use the class period as an extra study hall to make sure I had my other classwork done and finish any actual “assignments” the night before they were due. To be honest, I treated the class as so for a while. It wasn’t until after my first essay that I realized how I could improve my writing in preparation for college now instead of later. I didn’t realize that I tend to write in a passive tense every other sentence until now. I also, often, used, too many comma splices, which butchered the flow of my writing. I sometimes missed the MLA format details which lowered my scores early on. After I submitted the last essay, I was glad that I didn’t sign up for English IV. I enjoyed some papers...

...Gender Identity Paper Rechelle Stevenson PSY/340 Annie Powers 4-27-2014 In the research paper the reader will learn the meaning of gender identity and how hormones and behavior interact with each other. Also how hormones and behavior affect the determination of gender identity. Included will be the roles of biological factors. This paper will determine which has greater influence on gender identity nature or nurture. Gender identity is the acceptance of ones membership into a certain group of people. How an individual perceives themselves male or female is considered gender identity. Hormones play a major role in a person’s life; it affects their sex in two ways. Hormones affect the development from the time a person is conceived until they have grown into sexual maturity. Sexual maturity of anatomical, physiological, and behavioral traits determine a person as a male or female by activating the reproduction related behavior of sexual mature adults. Endocrine glands main function is to release hormones (University of Phoenix, 2009). A biological factor has a big part in shaping physical development. Males and females are born with distinctive sexual organs, these differences emerge around puberty. Hormones are responsible for the appearance of these physical differences. Too much androgen plays a major part in a male or female. Boys that have an excess amount of androgens tend to be fine and behave normally.
