How to Be Smarty

...You might think that some people are just born more brainy than others but actually, there’s a lot we can all do to improve our brainpower and hence our intelligence. While there is a strong genetic component to intelligence, research shows that IQ is more a result of the way your genes interact with your environment. Therefore, intelligence can be nurtured and it doesn’t mean you have to spend all your time with your nose buried in a book, memorising facts, either! There are lots of ways to stimulate your brain and here are some recommendations: • Watch less TV – despite the promises of the best art house films or the most educational documentaries, watching TV doesn’t use your mental capacity in any useful way or even recharge it. Hours of staring at the monitor simply leave you feeling drained, with sore and tired eyes. So resist the temptation to just vegetate in front of the box – have a conversation with your friends or family instead, if you don’t have the energy to read a book or indulge in a creative activity.  • Read more – although choose your reading material wisely. Naturally, it is important to relax and enjoy your reading time with more popular material such as magazines, comics and commercial fiction but if you really want to stimulate your brain, then make sure that you also spend some time reading challenging literature. Classic novels can change the way you think and help you use more precise, elegant language. They will also help to build up your vocabulary...

Theory of Mind

...Does theory of mind develop gradually or is there a radical conceptual shift between the ages of 3 and 4 years? Explain how research evidence supports your views. From an evolutionary perspective, the complex and highly functional psychological abilities can be seen as a product of a continuous adaptation process. Well-developed mental skills form the basis of humans complex and advanced mental functioning, both interpersonal and intrapsychologically. One of these advanced mental abilities is the capability to attribute emotions, intentions and knowledge within yourself and others (Flavell, 2004). This is a form of social cognition or a mental understanding that within developmental psychology is termed “Theory of Mind”. It is often said that children start to develop a “Theory of Mind” at the age between 3 to 5 years (Premack & Woodruff, 1978), but scientists have always had different views and opinions about when and how Theory of Mind develops. Some researchers believe that this development happens gradually, while others believe there is a conceptual shift between the ages of 3 and 4. I will in this essay evaluate and discuss the different viewpoints with the support of previous research evidence. Within the theory of mind approach, the ability to attribute mental states to others is considered evidence for children having developed a psychological understanding of the mind as representational – that is, they have realised that what is in the mind is only a representation...

Assignment 2

...Silvia Chapa Dr. Karani 2-20-2014 Assignment 2 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Smarty Pants and Donorschoose both a 10 in their efforts to build credibility and trust. Both organizations used the eight techniques for engendering credibility, legitimacy, and trust. The fact that Smarty Pants advocates for brain health in children impresses me. It is great to see an organization put forth the effort to supply a vitamin that benefits children in receiving their correct micronutrients to support brain health. As stated in the textbook, “All children benefit from appropriate daily supplements of three micronutrients that support brain health – Omega 3, DHA, and Vitamin D. Until now, these three micronutrients could be bought separately, but were not available in a single table.” Smarty Pants was able to put all three micronutrients plus more in a single table for children. Thus, Smarty Pants having pediatricians approve helps their case and builds trust with their consumers. As for Donorschoose, I am impressed with how they display their live feedback in real time. This shows that the organization has nothing to hide and is willing to let the world view what everyone is thinks about them. This allows people who are interested in donating a perspective of what other people in the world have experienced with the organization or what they feel towards them, allowing more than only the bias opinion of people who are strictly working for the organization or supporting...

False Belief Analysis

...This task was conducted by Hogrefe, Wimmer & Perner (1986) in which is a content change task whereby the experimenter shows a well known sweet container e.g. Smarties to the child and asks 'what is in here?' The child replies with 'Smarties' or sweets. The experimenter would then reveal pencils inside the container. The experimenter then re-closes the box and asks the child what they think another person, who has not seen the true contents of the box, will think is inside. The child fails the task if she responds that another person will think that the box contains...

Nestle

...readily available, we tend to take chocolate for granted, and few of us probably ever consider what is involved in producing it. We don't know who first discovered that cocoa beans could be turned into a drink, but we do know that by 600AD the Mayan people living in what is now Mexico were growing cocoa in the jungles of Yucatan. In the mid-19th century an English cocoa manufacturer, Joseph Storrs Fry, tried mixing cocoa butter with sugar and cocoa paste and invented the world's first solid blocks of chocolate. All over the world you will find prominent brands first developed in the UK e.g. Smarties, Dairy Milk, Aero and of course Kit Kat (the UK's Number 1 selling confectionery brand since 1985). Boxed chocolates such as Quality Street make up 15% of the confectionery market. Blocks and bars like Kit Kat and Yorkie account for 65% and bitesize chocolates e.g. Smarties and Rolo make up 10% Chocolate manufacture provides steady employment and job security for tens of thousands of employees in manufacturing locations like York and Birmingham. The industry also generates jobs in marketing, administration, transport and storage. Chocolate sales are an important source of income for many retailers. Besides the cocoa beans themselves, raw materials for the chocolate industry include sugar, milk and wrapping/packaging materials e.g. paper, foil and card. As a major buyer Nestlé seeks to be as closely involved in the supply chain as possible, to ensure quality...

...Interculture Paper 22, March, 2013 My Name is Khan “People are alike, and people are different.” This statement is an important concept in learning how to deal with intercultural communication issues, and with today’s population shift it is more important than ever to grasp it. In this essay I will examine how people are alike, and how people are different in relations to intercultural communication. All cultures have some form of language.  All culture has social roles based on age and gender. All cultures have laws for controlling social behaviors that impact the entire group. The problem is how can we face thoese problem when we in the different country with everything totally different with your own culture. During the movie before the 9/11, there were warm relations of Muslims with other religious groups which are seen during the marriage of Rizvan Khan where the attendees were Hindu’s, Muslims and Christians enjoying and celebrating the marriage. They had the same freedom and rights as other citizens of the nation as there was no special airport checking andinterrogating especially for Muslims either in reality or movie. Everyone was treated equal before lawand there was massive immigration of Muslims, and they were treated at equal par with other. The movie takes a turn when there occurs the 9/11 in which Muslim terrorists were involved. This leads to surge in prejudice against Muslims as a community. Here it must be noted...

Jk Rowling

...Rowling was born in 1966 in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire, England. Her father, Peter, was an aircraft factory manager, and her mother, Ann, a lab technician. Rowling grew up in Winterbourne, a hamlet close to the Welsh border, and lived four doors down from a family named the Potters, which is presumably where she drew inspiration for her main character's name. Her family moved again when she was nine, to Tutshill in the Forest of Dean. During her high school years, she was made head girl, despite the fact that she was generally a shy student. Rowling read often as a child, and began writing when she was six years old. According to interviews, she admired the works of writers such as E. Nesbit, Elizabeth Goudge, and Noel Streatfeild, among others. Although Rowling wanted to pursue a writing career, her parents convinced her to study French at Exeter University, with the hope that she would become a bilingual secretary. Rowling's rise to her position as an acclaimed author is virtually one of rags-to-riches. According to reviews, Rowling began writing the first Harry Potter book in 1990 after her revelation on the train. She was working full-time and in a long-term relationship. Shortly afterward however, her mother died, and Rowling lost her job with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. At the age of 26, Rowling moved to Portugal to teach journalism, and there met Portuguese journalist Jorge Arantes. They married October 16, 1992. During their brief marriage, she gave birth...

Node B: v=+∞ (since B is min) then it traverses to Node E where(α,β)=( -∞ , +∞ ). Node E: v=-∞ (since E is max) then it traverses to leaf Node L where(α,β)=( 7 , +∞ ) (since 7 is better than -∞) leaf Node M where(α,β)=( 7 , +∞ ) (since 7 is better than 6) so at Node E: v=7 In the already explored path at Node B: v=7 where(α,β)=( -∞ , +∞ ) Node F: v=+∞ then it traverses to Leaf Node N where(α,β)=( 8 , +∞ ) (since 8 is better than 7) Here the maximizer compares the value with other alpha values.
