We had our individual analysis posted in our Team’s discussions. We compiled all of the analysis into a draft on Thursday/Friday, and discussed and edited the paper on Saturday to be turned in on Sunday. Review/Highlights of Team Video Analysis Report: This analysis we focused on episodes three and four where CanGo is further along into their project for internet gaming. We came up with six additional issues that CanGo has which include: lack of a mission statement, weak operation strategies, no deadlines, no knowledge of a target audience, a weak customer service process, and lack of timely research. Other ‘Consulting’ Work (other than Team Video Analysis Reports): Since we all know exactly what is required of us, we achieved our goal that we set last week about getting on the same page, so we did much better for this week’s analysis. Progress toward Final Presentation (Qualitative and Quantitative): We all did a good job on getting our analysis in on time this week. All deadlines were met in a timely manner. Since then, millions of young girls have fallen in love with these characters and often see them as role models. From the dresses to the tiaras, the beauty to the fairy tale, Disney Princesses have a direct effect on young girls and their behavior. The media has been a powerful resource through which many young girls develop their identity and come to understand gender roles in society. Research indicates that watching televised gender portrayals has an effect on individuals’ gender based attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors (Mastro & Morawitz 131). These are the attitudes and beliefs that young girls who watch Disney princess films would inherit. Girls enjoy watching these films and see the beautiful characters overcome difficult trials, as well as fall in love with a handsome prince in the end. The overall message is not a realistic one, leaving many girls feeling self conscious and unhappy. The idea that beauty equals good and ugly equals evil can negatively impact the way a girl looks at herself or others. Girls will ultimately learn that what is beautiful is good. ...What is ‘echelon inventory policy’? Within our readings for this week, Simchi-Levi makes discussion referencing to a concept called ‘echelon inventory Policy’. What is ‘echelon inventory? It took quite a while to research what exactly echelon inventory is. Even when browsing the World Wide Web, definitions for the key words ‘echelon’, ‘echelon inventory’, and the like, turned up with very abstract notations but no real definition. In fact, the notations discussed multi-echelon inventories…. Even with that, no definition. I have to surmise it is a fancy word for something simple…. Good ‘ol jargon. To relate it to non-management terms, in highway maintenance, the term ‘echelon’ is referred to a particular arrangement, or formation (position). For instance, when plowing snow off a multi-lane highway, trucks would be staggered in an arrangement where the second truck would be behind the first, but off to the left or right as to pick up what the 1st plow left plus his part of the road. In Supply Chain Management, ‘echelon’ refers to inventory and the position in with it is located within the organization. I decided only to keep one job because it was too hectic. My title for the job I kept is Student Success Leader, which is similar to a peer-counselor. With the other brief job, I was a tour guide for the CUNY-wide College Explorers program, which gives tours to middle school students, with the intent of having them go to college. I volunteer for South Bronx United, where I serve as a youth tutor to high school students. I was also offered an opportunity to work as a tutor for the math department at BCC, seeing how well I did on the placement exam and both my Calculus courses, I declined the offer because of all the tasks I was doing. Lastly, I was offered an opportunity by general chemistry II professor to do research with him. The choices parents make to immunizations is a questionable debate. For example small pox has been globally eradicated, while diseases such as, polio are virtually nonexistent. Other life-threatening conditions such as measles have been dramatically curtailed to the point where families no longer fear the drastic effects of it. But in the recent outbreak of the measles in Disneyland, one would question if parents are still getting their children vaccinated for the measles. Dr. Andrew Wakefield wrote a research paper in 1998 on how vaccinations specifically measles and MMR could give a child autism, since then the speculations have increased and parents are worrisome. This is where one is at a stance, to vaccinate or not. Measles and other what once were eradicated diseases should be a requirement since scientists have now shown there are no correlations with autism, prevent the disease from spreading to others, and humanity would benefit as a whole. The purpose of this research study is to explore the ideology of different research studies that explain and identify effective strategies to prevent domestic minor-sex trafficking in neighborhoods and communities. Sex-trafficking is a social problem because, “the crime of people trafficking is an assault on human rights” (Heredia, 2008, p. 399). The issue of Fighting against sex-trafficking was addressed at the UN convention when a protocol was set to tackle the problems of sex-trafficking. There are strategies and interventions used by international and national human service agencies to assist the sex-trafficking victims. Shared Hope International and partner non-profit organizations stated the importance of protecting the victims, preventing the crime and prosecuting the perpetrators, and also have decided to act upon the problem (Shared Hope International, 2009).
