...Soccer Players Wages Soccer is the most popular sport in the world with billions of people in all countries following their team. But despite soccer’s popularity, it does not seen right that soccer players should get paid the amounts they do when their job is not as worthwhile and life threatening as other jobs like soldiers and doctors. Currently the top ten players in the world earn between $15million to $50million a year, compare this with normal jobs where people earn $32,000 a year. The highest earning player is David Beckham who earns approximately $966,000 per week, working out to be $50 million per year (Kaitlin Madden). The only way to control the salaries of soccer players is for the soccer bodies such as UEFA and FIFA to put a cap on the amount of money a team is allowed to spend on player wages. No countries currently have a cap although Italian soccer teams had looked into it a few years ago but never went through with it. A cap system would not only lower wages but would ensure fairness between all the teams in a league. It is hard to justify these soccer players getting paid so much when they no longer seem to have any passion for the game. When players are representing their country playing for the national team many no longer sing the national anthem when it is being played before the game unlike the rugby players who sing there national anthem with such pride. It seems that soccer players are now only in it for the money and they don’t even care about winning...

...Encyclopedia Americana, it says that soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Soccer is played in one hundred and forty four nations, with nearly twenty million players. (Encyclopedia) Two of those twenty million of players happen to be David Beckham and Lionel Messi. They’re both really good players, but Lionel Messi is a better player than David Beckham. This is because: Messi is more productive, makes more money, and has a better reputation. So how is Messi more productive? Messi is more productive because he has scored more goals, had more assists, and done both in a shorter amount of time than David Beckham. He has been more productive than any other soccer player. Lionel Messi’s first goal...

...widespread and debated for a period of time. Why? It is because of the popularity of many sport competitions or simply sport fans around the world that support and make this happened. We have started to question about the appropriateness of the amount of salary the professional athletes are offered because the quantity is unbelievably rich and impossibly affordable in the view of common people. For instance, Gareth Bale, a Welsh soccer player, signed a world-record contract moving from his old club Tottenham Hotspur, London to Real Madrid, Spain. The contract is worth 100 million euros and has allowed him to earn 170,000 euros a week, and as we can see the amount of salary is highly beyond the average salary a person should get. This reason makes things understandable when we see our children writing in their articles that in the future they would like to be a professional athlete rather than a salary man. As a result, some people who view it as unfair would give recommendation that the athlete’s salary should be reduced and limited, so that that amount of money could be used for developing in other necessary fields. However, their opinions are likely ignored and taken no action because in the reality there are no such laws and regulations in the first place. In my opinion, there are three main reasons to support my viewpoint what the professional athletes’ salaries shouldn’t be a limit, which are self-devotion to sport and short-career lifespan, job scarcity, and low job security....

...that time is now over. This affects international business because there are currently 209 countries within FIFA. FIFA has a far reaching impact because soccer is the most popular sport in the world. To better understand why and how FIFA became so corrupt, I’d like to lead with some background on the history of FIFA and its biggest members. FIFA stands for The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (English translation: International Federation of Association Football), and is the governing body of association football, futsal and beach soccer. FIFA is responsible for the organization of football’s major international tournaments, notably the World Cup which commenced in 1930 and the Women’s World Cup which began in 1991. FIFA was founded in 1904 to oversee international competition among the national associations of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. FIFA is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland and consists of 209 national associations. The countries range from Brunei and Tanzania to Brazil and Costa Rica. Member countries must each also be members of one of the six regional confederations into which the world is divided: Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central America and the Caribbean, Oceania and South America. FIFA does not control the rules of soccer, but it is responsible for the organization of...

...the links in the footnotes. 1. What differentiates Real Madrid from other Soccer clubs? One thing that differentiates Real Madrid from other top soccer clubs is that Real Madrid is owned by its members while most other top club is owned by shareholders (investors). Another difference is that Real Madrid were quite early to realize the importance to serve as a marketing vehicle all over the world rather than just a soccer club compared many other soccer clubs. This was especially under the management of Perez Real Madrid as a brand and business got in focus. This meant that Real Madrid became a real business and that the management managed Real Madrid as a business rather than just a soccer club. The performance of Real Madrid as a soccer club is still key to the performance of the business though. 2. What provides the revenue stream from which the club benefits? About one fourth of the income in most top clubs is generated on match-day from such things as sponsorships, television rights and merchandising revenues. Revenue depends largely of the clubs participation and performance in major competitive events such as the European Champions League for instance. Below are listed four types of revenues the club generates and what it basically consists of: * Match-day: Gate receipts are an important, but declining source of revenue. * Merchandising: Includes sales of branded goods such as soccer jerseys, mugs, caps, and watches. Merchandising income ranges from 5-20% of...

...Soccer Essay Soccer is the number one sport in the world, people do not realize this, because they do not think of the third world countries that do not necessarily have enough money to have more then something simple as a soccer ball. In this essay I will talk about the rules of offside, the game of soccer, and the rule of slide tackling. First, there are many rules in soccer, because it is a very complex game. One of the most important rules is offside. Offiside is the rule that comes into play when the Ball is kicked by and offensive player. If the other offensive player is past the last defender on there half of the field. Then the AR will throw up his flag signaling to the center ref. that there has been an offside offense. In this time the opposing team will get a free kick. Next, the game of soccer is played in most countries around the world. Whether or not these countries are poor or stable it is still a big sport. There are two sides to soccer, the offence and the defense. The offence is trying to get down the filed, and put the ball past the keeper into the opposing teams net. The defenses side is to try and prevent the offence from netting the ball. Finally, one of the biggest, and most important ways of tackling is slide tackling. There is an illegal way of slide tackling, which is when you either do not touch the ball, or you slide in with your cleat facing up. Slide tackling in this form will resort in a red card, which suspends you from the present...

...Author, Andrew Das, in his opinion article, “Pay Disparity in U.S Soccer? It’s Complicated,” investigates why the Women’s National Soccer team, who have won more World Cup’s and brought in more money than the Men’s National Team, are being paid less than their male counterparts. Das’s purpose is to see if the paying amount between the Men’s and Women’s team is reasonable. He adopts an argumentative tone in order to appeal to feminist and those who believe in women’s rights. Das begins his opinion article by questioning if the Men’s team brings in more revenue. In most years, the men do bring in more revenue but In 2015, the women’s team won the World Cup and then went on a victory tour that made the U.S Soccer federation earn additional money....

...International Federation of Association Football. It is a multi-billion dollar organization that is also a nonprofit. According to the article, “Attorney General Loretta Lynch said the individuals indicted had ‘corrupted the business of world-wide soccer to serve their interests and to enrich themselves’”. She also claimed that the schemes that took place had been “rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted” within the United States in addition to other nations all over the world. Per the indictments, as soccer became increasingly popular and profitable around both South America and the United States, FIFA officials became increasingly greedy and began acting unethically. In addition to taking money to pad their own pockets, those indicted were accused of “working with sports marketing executives to shut out competitors and keep lucrative contracts for themselves. Prosecutors allege U.S. and South American sports marketing executives paid more than $150 million in bribes and kickbacks to FIFA officials to obtain media and marketing rights to international soccer tournaments”. Some more specific examples of the corruption include Jack Warner (who voted on FIFA’s executive committee to pick the 1998 and 2010 World Cup hosts) who is accused of using soccer funds to purchase a personal condo in Miami, Florida back in 2005. However Mr. Warner maintains that he is innocent of these charges. Also, in 1991 a man by the name of Nicolas Leoz is accused of refusing to sign a $6.6 million contract constructed...

...of the best known and best playing soccer team in the world, Real Madrid. It tries to backlight the myth of soccer and the tremendous merchandising system behind soccer. Especially the era of Florentino Pérez, who brought a new dimension in managing and merchandising soccer clubs to Spain, will be analyzed in detail. soccer The game What makes a team like Real Madrid so interesting for sponsors and fans worldwide? What makes soccer so interesting for us? Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. Nearly every child kicked a soccer ball once in his live. More than 240 million people play at least once a week. Such a big sport needs a big parent organization in its background. This job is done by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The FIFA which was founded 1904 in Paris established a unified set of rules. This rules are easy to understand and are of course one of the reasons why soccer is so popular all over the world. Also the time a soccer game lasts is defined by the FIFA, its two halves of 45 minutes split by a 15 minute brake. In elimination games an overtime of two times 15 minutes and also a penalty shoot-out at the end of overtime is possible. This is a big advantage for sponsors and TV broadcasts compared to other sports like American football or boxing where the time for a game or fight is nearly unpredictable. You can have 12 rounds of barn-storming fight or a knockout after 10 seconds. At soccer games they can calculate and time their...

...playing for their football, basketball, soccer teams or any other sports. But is it wrong for someone to want to make more money and live comfortably? What one football player makes in one year in income, some construction worker will work all his life and never get close to achieving that sort of money. “Tiger Woods is still the highest-paid athlete in the world–and it isn’t even a close call. Woods earned $75 million over the past 12 months, easily outdistancing second-ranked Kobe Bryant, who made $53 million”(Forbes). Many people think that athletes are well over paid. Those athletes are just entertainers and not anything outside of this world to be able to make that kind of money. Yes, athletes put their health, physically and mentally, on the line every time they go onto the field for a game but is it fair to an everyday member of society like a police officer that only makes $42,000 a year. Some people do think that the millions athletes earn is acceptable. The feeling that the Packers gave the city of Green Bay last year or the feeling that the Bruins gave the city of Boston last year was priceless. Sports has gone to new level over the past 20 years, it has gone from playing for fun and the love of ones city or country, to just wanting to make more money. On the other hand, society is the cause of these outrages salaries and endorsement contracts that athletes get. “The 2010 World Cup Final set a new record for the most watched soccer game in U.S. history Sunday when...

Brian Johnson, a member of our IT team, was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver condition and requires a kidney transplant. Miraculously, a suitable donor was found. Brian has health insurance that will cover his part of the operation, but the donor does not have health insurance. Our company has decided to help Brian and his family raise the $100,000 dollars necessary for the transplant operation to take place. Service Requirements and characteristics: We have decided to implement four different programs to raise money. First, we will have a capital campaign designed to solicit monetary donations. Second, we will organize a soccer tournament open to employees, along with their friends and family. Third, we will work with a food catalog company such as Charles Chips and pass out catalogs with items that can be ordered. (A percentage of catalog sales come back to us.) Lastly, we will organize a phone bank for several days and have employees make calls to solicit donations. Product acceptance criteria: The project is successful if and when $100,000 dollars (our four campaigns + company match) is raised for the Johnson family. Project Boundaries: The boundaries of this project will be limited to the project objectives and the service requirements as outlined above. Employees unable to perform any of the...
