...of all activity programs should be to support the continuation of living through purposeful activities. Supporting the Human Spirit is the #4 domain in creating change in activities within long-term care (Gfeller, 2016). The activities older adults participate in should lend a hand to a meaningful life and support the wants and needs of the resident. As I dove deeper into the case studies and compared them to the activity calendar provided, it was clear that certain aspects of resident want and needs were not being provided. Case Evaluation One of the residents I chose to evaluate was a 73-year-old man who used to enjoy watching baseball, Catholic activities, and group activities. ...and Lancaster (2014) as “the meeting of collective needs through identification of problems and management of behaviors within the community itself and between the community and the larger society.” Community as client refers to the fact that the patient themselves is not always the only client. The community they live in and the resources available to them are also a part of the patient and the care that they need. Partnerships with different medical associations, community programs and other parts of the community as well as other people and citizens of the community are essential to the patient and their well-being. If there are no resources to help the patient’s needs, the patient becomes more at risk. The participating family’s community (La Verne) appears to be a somewhat upscale neighborhood with small town feel and values. The city appears to be very involved in its’ citizens well-being and has their best interest in mind, especially the senior population. The city has a large senior population and the city caters to that. They even offer special seniors only classes and social groups at no cost and they have a special city shuttle that picks citizens up at a senior living facility and transports them upon reservation to wherever they need to go. The city was well maintained and a suitable living environment. The family that I...

...The first selected magazine is Field & Stream, which is a magazine featuring fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities in America. This magazine targets those who are interested in Outdoor Life and sports. Field & Stream serves as a source of vibrant information based on the best sports gear, outdoor/camping survival tips and many travel locations. I chose this publication because I grew up in the low country part of South Carolina, where there is not much to do beside hunting and any other outdoor activities therefore, this magazine is attention grabbing toward me because of the huge bull elk on the cover. The second magazine is Arthritis self-management, which delivers current and dependable advice on fitness, health behaviors, nutrition, treatment and daily living tips. Most of the advice come from the best expert doctors and fitness professionals. This was my second publication choice because I have close elderly family member who struggle with arthritis, reading this magazine helps me learn about this disease and ways my family members can manage their pains. ...During the interview the parent elaborated on areas of self-care and socialization, which provided details on how the family unit functions and what occupations they value as meaningful. Degrace (2003) suggests that family being is portrayed through family rituals, and it helps show family cohesion, identity, and meaning. For example, the parent shared the morning ritual of cooking breakfast for the kids as they got dressed for school. This ritual incorporates the meaningful occupation of eating food with family cohesion as they sit together at the table every morning and engage in conversation. Also, the parent shared that every Saturday the family attends church and then they have dinner with their grandparents. This ritual portrays family being because it combines a ritual of attending church and eating dinner along with family cohesion and identity. The parent stated that their lives can become hectic with three children and their extracurricular activities, but family dinners on Saturday nights allow them to join together and communicate with one another.
