...AFRICA VS UNITED STATES In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance for people in different communities. The state contributes about 40% of all the expenditures on health while the public health sector delivers 80% of the population. Many resources are concentrated in the private health sector. These resources see to the health needs of the remaining 20% of the population. Public health consumes around 11% of the government’s total budget. The way the resources are allotted, and the standard of health care delivered, varies from country to country. Although there are similarities between South Africa and the United States regarding healthcare, South Africa remains at a lower level than the United States because of funding, education, medical supplies, and equipment/ machines to complete diagnostic testing. South Africa has a private and public healthcare system. There are more than 200 private hospitals owned by different private physicians or large corporations. Private hospitals have 24,537 beds while public hospitals have 110,143, according to David Hidler of PHNP. Public health care is free to pregnant women and children under the age of six. Other patients receiving care pay on a fee for service basis. This means that the patient’s pays for only treatment received while under the physicians care. The gross inequity between the two sectors has led health ministers to threaten regulation that requires the private...

...on Consumer Behavior in Luxury Consumption South Korea vs Netherlands By: Cindy Yoel Tanesia, Joline Boersma I. South Korea South Korea is a country located in the southern part of Korean peninsula. The population is 48,955,203 people (July 2013 est.) which make South Korea to be the 25th largest country in terms of population despite the relatively small area of the land. This paper will compare two cities in South Korea, Seoul and Busan, in terms of different in culture and how it affects the consumer behavior of the people living in the related cities. But, first of all, let’s see the general culture of people in South Korea: 1. Homogeneous There is a term of ‘hanminjok’ (한민족) in South Korea which literally means South Korean race. This term is used to describe that South Korean actually prefer to not mix their race with other races through international marriage because they afraid that they eventually will not have the pure Korean race anymore. However, the diplomatic relationship between USA and South Korea where USA helps South Korea for the military made USA military base established in some parts of South Korea actually opened the opportunity for more people from USA to come and stay in South Korea and eventually have their own family in South Korea which contributes to the increase in the international marriage in South Korea, especially in Seoul. 2. Importance of education Education plays important part for South Korean in almost every aspect. Approximately...

...When talking about segregation and racism after emancipation, most people’s first thought is of the Jim Crow laws and the South. Rarely do people know that the North was just as bad as the South when it came to segregation and racism towards the Black communities. All over America, Blacks had to use separate restrooms, water fountains, waiting rooms, hotels and even had to go to the back of a restaurant to pick up their food. Unlike the South, the North was against slavery, however, they still did not want the newly freed Blacks to live in the North because they saw them as unequal. In 1861, when the slaves were going to be freed by the National Government, the South felt that they were abusing their power and going against the constitution so they threatened to secede from the Union. In reality, the South was just using the...

...During the mid-nineteenth century, the south permitted and defended slavery as oppose to northerners and other European countries. Southerners believed that slaves was the key for their stern production of cotton, the basis of their economy. Whereas the northern moral disagreed toward slavery, even though slave’s benefited everyone, except slaves. These different beliefs led up to the inevitable breakup of the Union. Throughout history the concept of slavery had conflicting views about treatment and advantages towards African Americans, up to the point that the north and the south were at the brink of war. Certain citizen’s believed African Americans faced racial prejudice in the the north no less than in the south which came to light the change that need’s to be done concerning slavery. Southerner’s felt the need to defend slavery using anything that benefitted, specifically religion, so that...

...Developing Europe into a powerhouse, the Renaissance marked complete cultural transition of Europe out of the Middle Ages and identified a societal change of values and ideas reflected in the art and literature of the time period; the “rebirth” in Southern Europe, however, differed from Northern Europe. As both the North and South had access to newly printed materials courtesy the printing press, they did share commonality of thought- both supplied predominant Christian artistic themes, had an artistic ‘center’, and provided systems of guilds and patrons. The Southern, or Italian, Renaissance began during the 14th century and “inevitably, trade and commerce brought Italian ideas northward, where they influenced the artistic traditions” beginning the 16th century Northern Renaissance (Benton and DiYanni 53). The South focused on a return to the concept of humanism and revival of idealist, classic Greek and Roman values, but the North focused on the common man and daily realities of life. Centered around Florence then later Rome, aided by the patronage of the Medici family in the Early Renaissance and Popes in the High Renaissance, and inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, the Southern Renaissance movement emphasized humans (their capacities, values and worth). Italian artists made the viewer delve into the inner working of the human mind and their subject matter primarily consisted of gods and goddesses displayed with symmetry, balance, and linear perspective. Known for his goddess...

...The Adkins Diet vs. the South Beach Diet Tonya Richardson COM 155 May 5, 2012 Michele Armentrout The Adkins Diet vs. the South Beach Diet The Adkins diet is famous for claims of weight loss, but the South Beach diet is said to be a more heart healthy choice for dieters. Most diets are hard to follow, and have so many restrictions on food that people often get fed up and revert to their old eating habits, instead of continuing with a new diet plan. A diet that restricts certain foods may be setting a dieter up for failure, when they give into temptation, and indulge in their favorite foods not included in their diet. The Adkins and South Beach diet offer a variety of foods that include healthy and tasty choices, even for the pickiest eaters. Both diets are similar, and start out with an induction phase that restricts the foods you eat, and lasts about two weeks. The Adkins diet relies solely on counting the total number of carbohydrates you eat in a day, and the South Beach diet relies on the size and portion of carbohydrates eaten each day. Both diets result in about the same number of carbohydrates per day, but are calculated using different methods. So, let`s explore the reason we want to lose weight in the first place. First, we all want to improve our current health and prolong our lives. Unfortunately, because we tend to eat unhealthy foods, we experience weight gain and are acceptable to health related problems, such as high cholesterol. Changing your eating...

...So in your perfect commie utopia, where all you do is blame others and point your finger at the “empire” for every setback, you probably think Cuba never invaded and killed for money or geopolitical power you are so, sooo wrong. I bet that in your mind the US is to blame for everything and you’re all against colonization in the pursuit of natural resources, like oil for instance? I also bet that you stand for world peace huh? As a Venezuelan, let me tell a little about our contemporary history “my friend”, the first Cuban invasion of Venezuela occurred in the 60s, when Castro's guerrillas landed on remote beaches in northwest coast and went deep into the mountains, raiding towns, killing thousands of men, women and kids. Castro just decided to overthrow President Romulo Betancourt, who was DEMOCRATICLY elected back in 1958. Look it up, there’s lots of records on this matter. Continuing, the first Soviet arms arrived in Cuba in 1960, Castro announced in October that year that he already had a militia of 250,000+ men, equipment and weapons of the Communist block. Castro launched his invasion of Venezuela killing policemen, national guards, assaulting commercial aircraft, ships in our Anzoategui state, robbing banks, burning factories, dynamiting pipelines and power plants. As if that wasn’t enough, he also killed women and children on the “El Encanto” train in September 1963. At the time the Cubans forces were joined by some Venezuelan commies (like you), several survived (many...

...The relationship between the North and the South was tenuous when Andrew Jackson came to office in 1828. Ever since the Constitutional Convention of 1787, they had been fighting over slavery and tariffs. Each region wanted to make sure their economies were protected in the new Union. In 1828, the issue of tariffs surfaced again. Congress passed a tariff on imported, primarily manufactured, goods (Text, 299). The South saw this tariff as an affront to their economy. Vice President John C. Calhoun stated in his pamphlet The South Carolina Exposition and Protest that he believes the states should have the power to determine if laws passed by Congress are constitutional (Text, 299). South Carolina declared that Congress was overstepping its power by offering such support of the North’s manufacturing industries. The confrontation quickly spun into a debate over the power of the federal government to decide the rights of states. In 1832, after the passage of another tariff, South Carolina approved an Ordinance of Nullification (Text, 299). The Ordinance stated that taxes on imports would not be collected in South Carolina and...

...property than a person even though they are also living human beings like the white folks. Bruises, sprained ankles, and new or past scars were the punishment made by their owners if the black folks don’t obey. The white men would rely on black people because they were useful, they would get the job done, and the owners wouldn’t have to break a sweat to accomplish a task. This led to a disagreement between the North and South. Slavery was such a big issue. The North was anti-slavery while the south was for slavery. In the end, the Southerners seceded from the Union because the North outnumbered the South, Lincoln became president, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published. The graphs in document two showed a huge difference between the North and South. The North was two times greater than the South in everything. In the population graph the North had about 23,000,000 people compared to the 8,000,000 Southerners. That’s a 15,000,000 difference in only population. They also had about a 1,500,000 difference in soldiers. The North had about 100,000 more factories than the South. Lastly, railroads was a big deal. Railroads was the main transportation technology...

... Bringing Western Culture to South Korea via Nursing Home, Plastic Surgery, Clothing and Makeup Jacob Schwarz Executive Summary My reason for writing this study is to determine the feasibility of building a nursing/retirement home, a plastic surgery outpatient center, and a cosmetic and clothing store in Seoul, South Korea. In my opinion, South Korea is welcoming to this venture; this can be seen in the upcoming research. In this report, I explore the geography of Seoul, South Korea. I learn of the growing, large, population and the population density of 45,000 people per square mile (“Population Statistics,” 2013). Next, I review the demographics and find out that minority groups consist of 2.2% of the population (Population Statistics, 2013). While reviewing the demographics I found that the education system is extremely strict; though it is more lenient now, it is still success driven (Chakrabarti, 2013). I also found that religion is not going to be an issue with this venture, in my opinion. There are two major religions; the major Christian religion will be implemented in the venture (Koo, n.d.). Education and demographics are important to a global business venture, though I believe the economy is most important. I present information about South Korea’s economy, and how it has transformed from an aid recipient to a donor country (Globalization, n.d.). Here is where I mention the chaebol’s success, which accounted for 55.7% of South Koreas GDP in 2010 (Globalization...
