The International summer school is a good opportunity for me to develop multiple perspectives through its summer program. I expect to meet different people and learn from all kind of ideas. The diverse cross-cultural environment of the program will enrich me in different ways, I simply enjoy this kind of place where harmony between different cultures seems to exist, but the most important of all is that I will be committed to complete the whole program since I have a strong commitment to my education and a big desire to learn.

I am majoring in International Business with a specialization in Finance and the courses that the university offers are matching my degree plan, so I thought of expanding my education as well as my aspiration to explore a new culture and civilization. Studying and understanding the language and the cultural aspects are crucial when doing business in any foreign country, I believe that this program would greatly benefit me in my career path.

I am an open-minded person who loves to discover new countries and new cultures, and the Spanish culture triggered my attention. Spain is the adequate country to take Spanish classes and develop the learning in the daily life. Thanks to the university’s summer program it is an opportunity for me to learn in class and out of class, and no one would miss out this occasion. I have read about other cultures in books and seen them on television but that does not compare to the feeling you get when you throw yourself in another culture. I believe that studying abroad would be a life changing experience that will open many opportunities for my education by benefiting both the community that I represent and the nation I will study

Improving Summer School for at-Risk Students T

...Improving Summer School for At-Risk Students to Improve MAP Achievement H Abstract “Race to the Top” have left public education systems searching for ways to make sure students are reaching their highest potential. Because of the importance of accountability issues to school systems, it is important to examine ways to help students reach their potential. One tool school districts use to aid in improving student achievement is summer school. This qualitative study provides an overview of the history of summer school. Additionally, it offers a synopsis of various types of summer programs and at-risk student populations often targeted by summer school. The researcher also offers a review of literature on student learning loss over the summer months. Summer learning programs have the potential to help children and youth improve their academic and other outcomes. This is especially true for children from low-income families who might not have access to educational resources throughout the summer months and for low-achieving students who need additional time to master academic content. Because many students loose learning over the summer and some students need more time on task to master content, participation in summer learning programs should mitigate learning loss and could even produce achievement gains on standardized test such as MAP. Intersession Breaks In A Short Summer School

...At this point, the schools’ intersession breaks, which have previously been mentioned, may come in handy because each intersession can act as a short summer school. Students could use these intercessions as a tutoring period as well. Particularly if the school operates a multitrack schedule because a portion of teacher would always be around to assist students. A portion of teacher would be on school grounds because some if not all of the school's facilities are used on an offset year-round schedule. Aside from allowing for an extra tutor/learning period, shorter breaks can benefit a student in terms that it cuts down on summertime boredom that most students would experience during summer vacation. An increase in shorter breaks also brings...

Personal Narrative: My Return To Summer School

...When I returned to summer school P.E. this year, I already knew what to expect. I prepared myself two weeks prior. I did squats and lunges because I knew that those activities made me really sore last year. I wanted to start this year off correctly, so I started doing certain exercises so that my body could adapt to those exercises and I wouldn’t be as sore. The first thing we did was run on the track. We had to beat four minutes and a half on the half-mile run or else we would lose fifteen points for non-participation. This was more challenging than last year because last time we started with a slower time, six minutes. Luckily, I made it just in time. A good technique that I remembered from last year to run faster is moving my arms...

Personal Narrative: My Summer At Dunlap High School

...During my time at Dunlap High School, I participated in two different clubs: Key Club and FCCLA. Both clubs provided me the opportunity to volunteer in different events or school functions, from fundraising to volunteering at the Dunlap Grade School carnivals. The Summer before my senior year, I wanted to find an opportunity to volunteer outside the school environment. I found out about HIRSA through a family friend and volunteered to help with the Special Olympics bowling nights. This was one of my favorite events. I was lucky enough to get to know a lot of kind and talented people. My first year at ICC I was asked to design and submit t-shirt graphics to a company called “One Off Attire” based in the United Kingdom. This was a crucial experience...

Sound

...objects in the environment. For me, I hear a lot of sounds in my whole life. Some of the sounds I hear can make me think back of my childhood’s memories. Summer season almost approach to us. Sound that most reminds me of the summer are related to insect, weather, and natural. Surprisingly enough, insect is the most annoying bugs at night in the summer. They are everywhere, from the grass to the trees. One night in summer day, I was sitting outside in the balcony in the dark and couldn’t see things well because I lit the candles. I heard the “buzz, zee” sound around my ear; I knew some kind of bee around me. I was terrified that night because I would look horrible if I got stung. I immediately blew the candle so the bee couldn’t see me. Lucky me, it flew away after a few minutes. Bumble bees are a big nightmare to me. So every time I see bees, I remember that night. It was a scary night but also a memory in summer. Bumble bees are friendly to some people but it is my enemy. Summer is the season of rain, thunderstorm and lightning. Everyone likes rain because it cleans out all the dirt and pollen from the trees. When I see rain, I remember my six- grade school year in my country. Back then, we wore uniform when we went to school with a white top, blue bottom and a tie. I didn’t know it will rain that day, and I rode a bike to school. When I rode back home, on the way I started to see dark cloud and hear “boom, boom, bang” from thunderstorm, “hu, hu, hu’” from the wind. Also, the...

This exposure alternates as the Earth revolves in its orbit. Therefore, at any given time, regardless of season, the northern and southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons. Summer Season

...The summer season is one of the main seasons of India. It starts from the month of April and lasts up to the end of June. There is intense heat during these months. The sun shines perpendicularly causing numerous difficulties for the people. They want to stay indoors, especially during mid-day. They get tired very soon and feel lethargic. Summer mornings are little bit pleasant and so are the summer evenings. Hence people look busy during these times. They try to finish all their work as quickly as possible because they know that a long hot day is waiting for them. At noon the heat is at its peak. The towns and cities look deserted. There are few people on the road. Sometimes it is too hot to continue the work. Everything is paralysed. People go inside their houses in the darkest room. They drink cold water again and again just to quench their thirst but they never feel satisfied. During summer we eat little food. We do not feel healthy and sometimes develop many complications regarding health. Any irregularity in food-habit leads to sickness. Hot wind called loo' blow throughout the day and many die of heat stroke. The rich people do not have much problem because they have electric fans, coolers and air conditioners. But the poor people have to face hardships. They go on with their work in the open under hot sun. The season is lazy one. End of Summer

...Steph wrote a while back that she was sad to see summer going. For me, especially the way this summer has gone, I can’t agree. Yes, I’ll definitely miss the Saints games. I’ll miss the nice days, but for me, this is the time of year when I’m looking ahead. I’m getting closer to finishing up the software I’ve been working on all summer long. I may actually even get to take a real vacation in a month or two. Plus, with the advent of cooler evenings, I’m actually able to open the windows at home and avoid the noise of the air-conditioner and fans once in a while. And I’ve got a hope that with cooler weather, a break in the work (at least temporarily), and no Saints games taking up my my evenings, I’ll find more time to get out and ride my trike. And it’s been this way since I started my business. I’ve always tried to take on less work over the summers, but every year but one I’ve been working on a project that was originally supposed to be done in May, and ended up finishing around September. It’s a chronic problem in the software field, but being an outsider on these projects, I wonder why companies don’t bite off smaller chunks so they can let their employees take some time off during the summer when the ankle-biters are home from school, and families want to take vacations. And just for completeness’ sake, I should note that the one summer I had off, I was working on a project that was running late, and when hit with completely unreasonable demands on my time in May, I left...

Community Profile

...WK 2: Community Profile In a community there lives a diverse group of people. These people are what make a community a home or a neighborhood. This neighborhood needs to be respected and protected in order for people to thrive and carry-on with their everyday lives. My community is made up families raising their children and just going with everyday life. We take pride in living for our children. Sports and education is big in the community, during school and during the summer months as well. When the adults are not working they take their leisure time going to basketball games on Friday nights during the fall or baseball games during the summer. Also during the summer months my community has a farmers market. The farmers market supports local farmers and also brings other small businesses out. The farmers market always brings out the community and brings people together. It is also a great way to contribute to small businesses and give back. Some other wonderful, fun things we have during the summer months that brings the community together are car shows, a day in the park and the jubilee. A reason we can have these things is because of the workforce in the community. The workforce ranges from industry to clerical to fast food to medical. We are very diverse in what needs to be done. The community used to be mostly industrial but a lot of factories were shutdown due to the economy. The community still has a couple of bigger industrial factories that are in production but...
