...The Argentine Tango is Argentina’s greatest contribution to the world of dance. Many Americans recognize the Tango as a sultry partner dance performed on shows like Dancing With The Stars or So You Think You Can Dance. However, there is a vast history behind the Tango and what we take pleasure in watching today. In fact, the establishment of the Tango is deeply rooted in the economic and migrant history of Argentina, more specifically Buenos Aires. In the late 1800’s, the impoverished state of Europe encouraged many people to migrate to the New World. Migrants from Spain, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and Turkey fled Europe with the common goal of a better life. Most migrants dreamed of settling in New York but instead many landed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. To their displeasure, Buenos Aires wasn’t the escape from poverty that they fantasized about....

...Exploring the Ethnic Diversity in Shakira’s Song ( Objection) Literary studies in English Dr. Shanthini Pillai Feras Ismail Ali P61421 Review: Over the ages, humans migrated from place to place. Between 1700s to 1800s have been substantial migrations among the world. One of these migrations was the Latin Americans to United State of America. By the time the number of Latin Americans increased to reach 30 million with different ancestral, cultural background and traditions, those immigrants establish their own heritage, customs, traditions and values to build their own identity. This raises the concept of panethnicity. Panethnicity is a collection of different small identities which form a community. The different ethnicities in panethnic community have similarities in their customs, values, language and music. ( Andrea Bedoya, 2007, P1). Shakira and her family was one of the families who migrate to USA, when she became a famous singer all over the world, she tries to maintain her origins and culture through her lyrics and symbols in her songs. These movements of different origins and parts created diasporas who have to maintain their roots with their origin land, looking for their ancestral land and culture although they have to cope with the new land and culture, Shakira in her song presented these feelings clearly through the music, lyrics, setting, clothes, instruments and dancing. She tries to save her culture through singing. Karim (1998, P2) argued that “diasporas...

...Ethnographic Essay Rarely do we look our culture and how it affects the way we communicate and interact with each other. Culture is innate to us and we are usually unaware of it because it is an apart of us that we are unable to separate from and analyze. This is what I have learned from interacting and interviewing Luciana Cappuccino better known as “Lucky”. I was aware of her Spanish culture when I was first introduced to her just because of her first name. We sometimes forget how something as personal as our name is stamped by our cultural origin. I did further research into her name; I found out that Luciana is a typical Spanish name meaning light. The religious ties were very prevalent from the beginning even before I had started the interview. Argentina like most of Latin America and my own culture, the Caribbean has a deep history of colonialization; which is even more crucial part to the history of Luciana Cappuciano since she is of European ancestry. The Europeans arrived in Argentina 1502 this is most likely when Lucky’s ancestors first entered Latin America. One of the issues Lucky faced is being ethnically a Caucasian but identifying herself as a Latina. This is her avowal identity, meaning that is the identity “that [she] choose[s] to associate with and portray” (Willis-Rivera 28). However most American ascribes a Caucasian identity to her because of her blonde hair and fair skin; which is features attributes as white in America. This issue was something we discussed...

Ortega ECO/561 October 26, 2015 Prof. Seyed Baladi Dancing with the Stars Academy The author is a business consultant that provides expert advice to entrepreneurs. One of those entrepreneurs is an experienced dancer and performer, Jennifer Camacho. Jennifer has been a successful performer for many years, winning international awards and recognition. She believes this is the time for her to expand her horizons and become a business owner. Her idea is to open Dancing with the Stars Academy, where she will be teaching dance to adolescents and young adults. This paper describes the economic considerations related to Jennifer’s dance academy. The Business and Its Competitors Dancing with the Stars Academy will be located in Miami, Florida. Jennifer plans on teaching tango, salsa, rumba, samba, foxtrot, and hip-hop. Research indicates there are approximately eighteen other dance studios in the Miami area. Of these, eight teach the same dance rhythms Jennifer will focus on (Dance Empire, 2015). Many of the dancing studios in the area are differentiated by the type of dance they teach, the type of competitions they attend, the success they achieve at these competitions, the tours they are invited on, and the previous success of the leading instructor. Getting into the market is extremely easy as a dance teacher does not have to own a space but merely rent a location from an existing studio (Rizzuto, 2013). In order to be successful one...

...Furthermore, DMT has been found to improve a patients’ mood, body image, and self-esteem. Research has shown that dance therapy is just as effective to other psychotherapeutic treatment methods (Strassel et al.). The physical benefits of dance includes increased balance, muscular tone and strength, flexibility, spatial awareness, and endurance. Socially, dance has the ability to nurture the development of relationships, and is a universal form of non-verbal communication. Additionally, through a cognitive perspective, dance aids in the integration of sensory motor skills and vocabulary development. Overall, dance movement therapy has the ability to actively engage in the brain via the body, through a process that influences both physical and psychological functions. Thus, by connecting physical and cognitive abilities through the kinesthetic form of dance, DMT becomes a highly effective form of treatment for those with psychological disorders. This paper will specifically examine the effectiveness of dance movement therapy as a form of psychotherapeutic treatment, through its distinctive kinesthetic abilities to increase social integration, emotional, cognitive, and physical functions in those with...

...People may develop many different relationships during their lifetime. These relationships may range from family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, bosses, and lovers. “New research has pointed out that people match one another’s language styles more during happy phases of their relationship, and this phenomenon is called Language Style Matching or LSM.” (Muppala, 2010) It is believed if two people are similar in their speech patterns and their use of function words, they are psychologically compatible. Researchers are using this technology to evaluate natural speech to determine this compatibility. This paper will discuss whether language style matching is accurate and can predict lasting relationships. “A study published in Psychological Science says that people with similar language styles stay in relationships longer than those whose styles are dissimilar.” (Castillo, 2011) This study is referring to the use of function words. “Function words are highly social and they require social skills to use.” (Castillo, 2011) They are words that have little meaning by themselves but when they are mixed with other words can help to convey a message. These words can be: (1) prepositions such as of, at, and in; (2) pronouns such as he, they, and it; and (3) determiners such as a, that, and my, to name a few. Research shows that relationships are defined by the use of these function...
