There are quite a few great movies that came out in the 1960’s, The Great Escape, Bullitt, and A Fistful of Dollars. Another exceptional movie of the 60’s was the movie The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman. The movie embodies the issues that were part of the 60’s and the conflicts that were faced during that period in time. There was a lot of exploration of how people could be their own individual and express themselves as individuals.
I am going to discuss the plot and the story of the movie. I want to discuss what makes this movie special and memorable for the audience such as the acting and camera techniques used. Also talk about the soundtrack that was used for the film and what made the soundtrack special. Overall, I want to discuss all the aspects that made this movie one the best movies in history.
The Graduate stars Dustin Hoffman as Benjamin Braddock, a recent college student who just graduated. He returns home to be greeted by his parents and they want to throw him a welcome home party to congratulate him for his hard work. During the party all the relatives and neighbors ask him what his plans are but he tries to get away upstairs. Upstairs he finds Mrs. Robinson sitting in a couch drunk and offers to take her back home. When they arrive at her house she starts flirting with Benjamin but rejects her at first. He decides to go ahead with the affair but later realizes there is nothing between them so he wants to break the affair off. The next day his mother wants him to date Mrs. Robinson’s daughter Elaine which Benjamin reluctantly does. At first he doesn’t take it seriously but realizes that she might the one for him.
The first thing that stands out about this movie is the acting. Dustin Hoffman is great as Benjamin Braddock, he made the character a memorable one with the scene of Mrs. Robinson undressing while he is standing and he starts

Taxi Driver

...Taxi Driver The movie Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, "may be the greatest first person character study ever committed to film" according to an interview of Quentin Tarantino. Within the realm of film noir there is interplay with light and darkness and there is the classic main character. The main character within every film noir has a couple key components that are common within many of the antiheroes of the genre. The film noir anti-hero, or corrupted hero, is most known for their descent moralistically or in the case of Travis Bickle, mentally. The conventions used to display this mental ambiguity is via the mis en scene, cinematography, and editing. Most normal formal elements that are used in film noir are within Taxi Driver. The hero, most of the time in film noir, is a washed up hero who is preconditioned to descend into darkness in order to let justice prevail. In Taxi Driver, Scorsese doesn’t have Travis Bickle descend in terms of moral ambiguity but rather turns Travis from oddball to murderer. Travis’ dissension mentally is synonymous to a film noir hero’s dissension morally.
Like many film noir heroes, Travis seems predisposed on becoming a psychopathic killer. Being an ex Marine, it seems he needs a lot of time to keep himself busy, and as a result is a complete loner. The mis en scene, editing, and cinematography of the movie show the audience many scenes that connote to his later and more troubling behavior. The lighting is a part of mis en scene that...

Taxi Driver Thesis

...The worldview of Taxi Driver is the cynical take of what New York reality was in 1976. One of the characteristics that distinguish a film or TV show shot in Toronto, but set in New York is the garbage. New York streets are filled with garbage and it litters every frame of Taxi Driver. In Scorsese’s view, New York has become so vile that men like Travis have prepared themselves to clean up the streets as they wish to. That’s not to say Scorsese condones their actions, the film is shot in documentary style for a reason, no reason to cover that fact up. The world is being built in such a way that it becomes an excuse for violence. Several assassination attempts toward political figures have been cited as reasons by the perpetrators, such as John Hinckley Jr. He supposedly identified with...

Loneliness in Taxi Driver

...no boundaries. However, film is not only created as an entertainment tool, it can often also mirror society and its changing values. A film can be a communicator of ideas whether it is reflecting political perspectives or challenging cultural issues. This is the case in 1976, when Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader had created the modern film classic Taxi Driver. During this time America had undergone a lot of fluctuations in its economic and social movements. This film takes place in New York City through the perspective of the protagonist Travis Bickle, who is played by Robert De Niro. Through Bickle's eyes the city appears to be corrupted and struggling. Furthermore this iconic thriller takes place when America is facing new wounds from the post-world war two eras. From the main character’s perspective, the film examines the theme of loneliness that influences the protagonist’s character development in an urban society. On the surface, the film is based on the life of Travis Bickle who was once a Vietnam vet that finds the means to survive in the big apple through a blue-collar job as a Taxi Driver. The film illustrates the alienation that occurs to individuals after a social change to political events. In this film the story’s backdrop is placed in the 1970s of New York City....

Taxi Driver Film Critique

...Taxi Driver Martin Scorsese’s, Taxi Driver is the definition of dark and gritty. The movie follows a military veteran, Travis Bickle, who lives in New York as he battles insomnia and some dark demons. Travis decides to become a taxi driver in order to make some extra money. Travis seems to have this infatuation with cleaning up the streets of New York from the filth and scum. Travis records his accounts and thoughts daily in his diary. Travis decides to work the worst neighborhoods in New York; just adding to his hatred of the drug dealers and prostitutes who run free. The film has its moments that are a bit awkward. Like Travis’s unhealthy obsession with porn theaters. Later in the film, Travis becomes obsessed with a girl who works as a campaign volunteer, Becky. After a misunderstanding between them and she no longer wants to see Travis, he comes enraged. I thought the movie could not get any darker, but Travis begins to train and mold his body to what I would assume is a killing machine. I suppose he saw himself as a super hero sent to clean up the streets of New York. He begins to purchase fire arms and train with them regularly. Along the film, he meets a young girl by the name of Iris, who is caught up in a prostitution ring. Travis becomes determined to free her of her abusers and after a violent shootout between her pimps, he is able to rescue her. I enjoyed the film very much. At first, I just thought it was going to be a memoir of a lonely New York taxi driver. As...

American Dream Themes in Taxi Driver

...American Dream Theme’s in Taxi Driver An Annotated Bibliography Dempsey, Michael. Rev. of Taxi Driver, by Martin Scorsese/Michael Phillips/Julia Phillips/Tony Bill. Film Quarterly Vol. 29, No. 4 (Summer, 1976). Pp. 37-41. Print. Dempsey’s review of Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese is an analytical synopsis of the film given in comparison through other novels and films. Dempsey opens his criticism of Taxi Driver by stating that Taxi Driver’s inspiration came from Robert Bresson’s Four Nights of a Dreamer. Dempsey continues to recap the film and calls De Niro’s portrayal of the main character as bringing a brilliant conception alive with expert minimalism. Dempsey’s most surprising review comes in the form of the infamous climactic end to the film. Dempsey describes this as “only a revenge movie cliché; like the shark attacks in Jaws” further stating that is only provided a reflexive physical reaction. Ebert, Roger. “Taxi Driver”, “Blue Velvet” Y El Sueño Americano

Why Egg?

...lived about 30 minutes from the city centre and regularly got public transport in to the city for nights out. To get home A would share taxis with her friends who would get out at different stops along the way. A had experienced the journey home dozens of times and knew how long the journey should take. A was the last stop and was responsible for paying the taxi driver at the end of the evening. After A’s night had ended, as usual she joined her friends in finding a taxi to take her and her friends home. A and her friends found a taxi and agreed a price for the journey. A told the driver that they had half the cost in cash, but that A would withdraw the rest of the cash from the cash machine at the top of her road. A and her friends were actually putting themselves at risk by not pre-booking a taxi (finding a taxi on the street invalidates the taxi drivers’ insurance). A and her friends did not think anything of it; they were not particularly drunk, they just didn’t pay attention. There was only two stops that evening, A’s friend first and then A. After dropping A’s friend off safely at home, A was alone in the taxi. The taxi driver drove around a mile down the road and suddenly pulled over. He aggressively demanded full upfront payment from A. She reminded the taxi driver of their prior arrangement but he insisted on the money. The taxi driver got out of the car and locked A inside. During this time, he made a phone-call on his mobile phone and A overheard him arranging a friend...

...QUESTION 1: By going deep into the case one of the strong reasons why Taiwan taxi has not reached up to the mark is that it has not implemented the IS strategy well .It focused a lot on its business strategy leaving behind its organizational strategy which could not compete with the ICALL system(emerging new technology). From the case, I also found few key issues that made Taiwan taxi a bit lagging when compared to Comfort taxi .The following are the few issues that I believe the reasons for the above. 1. Comfort taxi leased the vehicles but in case of Taiwan taxi, drivers have to get the vehicles at their own risk. 2. Comfort taxi drivers are technically sound with the usage of GPS system whereas most of the drivers of Taiwan taxi doesn’t have an idea about ICALL system. This made the drivers uncomfortable handling the technology and finally resulted in a negative word of mouth to the outside world. 3. Another reason why Taiwan taxi drivers couldn’t adapt to the new system is that, the entry system into the company is very lenient .All they need is a drivers license and a vehicle. This made all the uneducated enter into the field who are not able to work with the technology. 4. The membership fee is low and there is no central authority. This is the only reason why people prefer Taiwan taxi. 5. Drivers dint felt their job secured and it is not a productive profession. 6. Though both the areas have a geographical commonalities and cultural similarities there...

Traveling Nightmare

...excited to fly on an airplane and travel outside of Texas. Neither of us knew what the next few days would have in store for us. We board our plane and watch the sun come up as we take off, this my friends the most the enjoyable part of our traveling nightmare. The plane trip was uneventful. We landed in Chicago and played around in the airport for a few hours. We boarded our second plane, which was a crop duster and scared Becky. We land at Indianapolis International Airport safe and sound. We hail down a taxi to take us to pick up the U-Haul in Meridian Hills, IN. The taxi ride was fun for a few minutes, till I realized the taxi driver was going the wrong way! The taxi driver was more concerned about asking us question about President George W. Bush than where he was going. For some crazy reason he thought everyone from Texas is or was related to the President. We arrive at the U-Haul location, where the taxi driver over charged us by $75. I was just ready to be out of the taxi and headed home. The U-Haul manager was a jerk from the minute we walked into his U-Haul/Mini Mart/ Farm supply store. First he did not have the correct size truck available, even though I reserved my U-Haul 2 months prior. So I was left with a 26’...

The company not only sells the physical device but offers a no-contract wireless service plan for consumers who don't want to be locked into long-term agreements. Besides BtoC, GSM Nation offers solutions for organizations ranging from the government agencies to Fortune 500 companies.  How it started: When Ahmed Khattak arrived to the U.S. from Pakistan, the first thought was to call his parents to let them know he was safe. Yet, when he went to buy a phone he was shocked he couldn’t afford to buy one without committing to a two-year contract. Plus, he didn’t he even qualify, because he lacked a Social Security number or credit history. It was that moment he decided he'd find a way to help customers in the U.S. enjoy the benefits similar to the international community, where phones are unlocked and mobile plans are available contract-free. GSM Nation was soon born out of a Yale incubator. Why it's a winner: With expectations it will hit $100 million in revenue in 2013 -- only three years after launch -- GSM Nation is a winner in our books.
