If I were to organize a retirement party for someone that was retiring after 30 years I would first conduct research on what he has done and what are his biggest accomplishments. Next would be to find out what that person will be doing for their retirement, such as golfing and make that the party’s theme. I would assign my other colleagues some of those tasks and we would come up with the best time and date to have it. Once the date was set and everyone was in on it, I would let others know and ask for their input on what accomplishments, funny moments, and gather pictures from office parties or board meetings. We would get all the pictures, videos, and make a presentation. On top of that we would get a plaque done that would be finished to present at the party.
In the event of conflict during the planning stage for the retirement party all personnel would have the ability to openly communicate with anyone else on the team. Prior planning and meeting our timeline is our best effort to ensuring that any issues that may arise will be resolved prior to the event happening. Teamwork in school or the workplace is essential to the smooth and effortless accomplishment of tasks. Working in a team environment builds confidence through collective ownership over whatever is being worked on. It also opens the lines of communication between colleagues and helps in troubleshooting procedures. A strong focused team of individuals can creatively and effectively accomplish tasks faster which represents the value of

The Vaule of Teams

...The Value of Teams Christina Rodriguez February 27, 2016 1]  In what kind of teams have you participated? First team was fourth grade cheerleading, even though I was on the bottom of the pyramid, I was the foundation of the format. I did cheerleading through middle school, then in high school was in color guard in the band. I have to say being in band takes a lot of teamwork and discipline. From there being a server at a few places where teamwork is a must! Then at Food Lion I was Assistant Produce Manger, on truck days working together to get it unloaded and organized in the cooler takes teamwork and communication. Sometimes we would get dairy or meat products on our floats and because we are a team, would carry the product to the department and they would be thankful. Now at the gas station, all associates work really well together to make sure everything gets done and the store looks clean. Now as a mom, I would say this is the newest team. Rob, myself and the grandparents all work together to ensure that Jackson is taken care of. 2]  How is communication in a team different from one-on-one communication, according to the text? The more people in the group the greater chance for miscommunication. One on one communication allows for more input because it can be more specific to each individual responses. They can have a better understanding of each other because it’s more direct. With group communication everyone needs to have a better understanding of the group’s...

They created this search engine so that users can find any website or document on the web based on keyword or exact searches. Google provides free services for their users. Introduction What is a team? A team is defined as a group of people with a full set of complementary skills required to complete a task, job, or project. Teams members (1) operate with a high degree of interdependence, (2) share authority and responsibilities for self-management, (3) are accountable for the collective performance, and (4) work toward a common goal and shared rewards(s). Team becomes more than just a collection of people when a strong sense of mutual commitment creates synergy, thus generating performance greater than the sum of the performance of its individual members (Business Dictionary.com, 2014). It is equally important for us to know that a team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performing goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013, p. 300). Similarly, an excerpt by Franklin Covey “4 Disciplines of Execution” is of the view that the four discipline of...

Designing Effective Work Teams

...DESIGNING EFFECTIVE WORK TEAMS Types of Work Teams Most commonly, types of teams can be grouped into self-managed work teams, cross-functional teams, and virtual teams. As mentioned in part one, the authors of Organizational Behaviour define a group as “two or more people interacting interdependently to achieve a common goal” (Saks & Johns, 2014). In other words, a team is a collection of individuals who are interdependent in their tasks, who share responsibility for outcomes, who see themselves and who are seen by others as an intact social entity embedded in one or more larger social systems (for example, business unit or corporation), and who manage their relationships across organizational boundaries. (Sundstrom, De Meuse, & Futrell, 1990). Self-managed work teams are work groups that have the opportunity to do challenging work under reduced supervision. Cross-functional teams are work groups that bring people with different functional specialties together to better invent, design, or deliver a product or service; and virtual teams are work groups that use technology to communicate and collaborate across time, space, and organizational boundaries. (Saks & Johns, 2014). Designing Effective Work Teams According to Johns & Saks, there are three fundamental dimensions to teams functioning effectively: the task, team composition, and management support. (Saks & Johns, 2014). The task is what the team is required to carry out; a task is viewed by team members as a challenge...

Firstly, the opinion of fashion group is that they want to set up an independent designer clothing store. These independent designers come from students who study in fashion department. However, through research, the fashion group found that we do not have the basic knowledge and understanding of fashion industry. ...e 5 elements of an effective team 2010 October 17 by Tim Riley | | | 0 inShare | | I recently went on a leadership course and one of the key focuses of the course was creating effective teams. The facilitator recommended a book called “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni. Lencioni’s central theory is that there are 5 key elements to a cohesive team. In order of importance they are: 1. Trust – they trust one another 2. Healthy conflict – they engage in unfiltered conflict around ideas. 3. Commitment – they commit to decisions and plans of action. 4. Accountability – they hold one another accountable for delivering against those plans 5. Results focus - they focus on the achievement of collective results Trust is the foundation element because it is only with trust that team conflict can be possible. Teams become dysfunctional when they are unable to productively deal with conflict and all meaningful relationships require productive conflict for them to grow. When teams engage in productive conflict they can confidently commit to decisions. This is where real commitment to team goals happens. Without team commitment you cannot have accountability. If the team is to be accountable, everyone must have a clear understanding of what is expected of them. When teams are not held accountable they tend to look out for their own interests, rather than the interests of the team. A healthy team places team results as the most important goal of all....

Teamwork & Teambuilding

...IRHR: Teamwork & Teambuilding (c3131618) Nilesh s/o Ganesh Team/group roles and purposes varies between different organizations. An example is SRO which ran focus groups to learn more of employees perceptions. From these focus groups the CEO wanted to uncover the root cause of employees unhappiness which resulted in poor performance. This shone light to the fact that employees were not satisfied with the way their manager ran things. Firstly the staff were not aware of what was going on in the company. They never heard of news of people getting promoted due to the lack of transparency in the company which eventually led to low motivation. After implementing the intranet promotion announcement system and having award ceremonies, staff became more aware of these promotions and realize that it was possible to achieve their intrinsic and extrinsic goals. This in turn resulted in an improvement in the organizations performance as staff began to work harder. Like SRO, focus groups were set up at Deloiite as well but with a different agenda. They were organized to learn from the culturally diverse workforce in the company so as to set up an initiative to attract and retain talented employees. In another case, the company Datacom learnt that the level of engagement from workers varied between teams. Even though members of the team were happy, their performance levels still weren't up to standard. Teams who were happy with their work environment and were well engaged...

It’s now a group rather than individually, workload is shared and leadership is shared. According to table 11-1, “effectiveness is measured by the group’s collective outcomes and products” (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013, p. 301). 2. Should Google’s HR team members have been instructed ahead of time in the teamwork competencies in Table 11–3? Explain how it should have been done. I think Google’s HR team members should have been instructed ahead of time in the teamwork competencies. People are more successful when they know what is expected of them beforehand. According to table 11-3, you need to develop strong team competencies. This includes: orienting team to problem-solving situation, organizing and managing team performance, promoting a positive team environment, facilitating and managing task conflict and appropriately promoting defense of preferences when supported by logic based arguments. Real teamwork requires a concerted collective effort. Requiring, lots of tolerance, practice, and trial and error. When in a problem solving situation HR team members should “arrive at a common understanding of the problem and determine the important elements of the problem.” When that’s figured that out, then HR needs to “find relevant data that pertains to the problem.” Next they need to organize and manage the team’s performance by...
