...Television technology The technology that I’ve chosen to write about is the television. (Oxford University, 1997) defines television as a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are reproduced on screens chiefly used for broadcasting programs for entertainment, information, and education. In 1927, the beginning of television, the pictures presented on screen was only shown in black and white. Television eventually evolved into color pictures in the early 1940’s. Over the next eighty years television will undergo numerous advancements from cable TV, high definition, to 3D television with even more advancements made to televisions for the future. This paper will explain three impacts of television, 1. That it competes with other ways of human interaction, 2. Provides information and entertainment. 3. Television could be damaging to one’s personality. The first impact that television has is that it competes with other ways of human interaction such as Friends, Family, and School (Human Communication Research, 1985). It also has an influence with young people in helping them develop values and ideas from events happening around the world. It also has a hand in contributing to viewer’s attitudes and beliefs about themselves as well as socially, ethnically, and cultural backgrounds. Television has a visually interesting and highly interesting style that commands many human’s attention for several hours a day. The second impact television can have is providing...

...Mass media refers to communication devices, which can be used to communicate and interact with a large number of audiences in different languages. Be it the pictorial messages of the early ages, or the high-technology media that are available today, one thing that we all agree upon, is that mass media are an inseparable part of our lives. Entertainment and media always go hand in hand, but in addition to the entertainment, mass media also remain to be an effective medium for communication, dissemination of information, advertising, marketing, and in general, for expressing and sharing views, opinions, and ideas. Mass media is a double-edged sword which means that there are positive as well as negative influences of media. Print Media Print media encompasses mass communication through printed material. It includes newspapers, magazines, booklets and brochures, house magazines, periodicals or newsletters, direct mailers, handbills or flyers, billboards, press releases, and books. Newspapers: Newspapers enjoyed the position of the most preferred medium to reach a wider audience until electronic communication emerged on the media scene. In the early days, newspapers were the only medium that masses at large depended on, for daily news. A newspaper carries all kinds of communication related to a variety of topics like politics, socialism, current affairs, entertainment, finance, stocks, etc. Apart from this, it also includes topics which are in lighter vein like cartoons,...

...Conclusion12 Bibliography13 Executive Summary An attempt has been made through this paper to understand the evolution and development of televisions from the marketing perspective. This paper discusses the shortcomings which were noticed by manufacturers which initiated a chain of constant innovation and improvement. It also gives useful insights on the evolution of television and its positive/negative impact. Introduction Growth is the only evidence of life (Newman, 2010). This statement holds true not only for life but for other things as well. As people evolved, the things surrounding them also did. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that electronics developed out of proportion; since, every day something new is added to the market. Everything boils down to creating value for the customer, all the research and development done by companies is to understand the need of consumers and create a product or service which caters to their need. (Armstrong, 1996) The extent to which a business organisation goes to know their customers is baffling. Coke actually knows how chilled the Can should be when it comes out of the vending machine, it knows how many people like to have coke with their breakfast. Companies go a long way to understand their consumers so that they can provide value, satisfaction and quality. This paper studies how televisions developed over the years, how the needs and wants of consumers changed and what efforts did companies put in to provide the best...

...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1. Background to the Study Films, generally, serve as a tool for national integration and development. Major types of film are home video, which develop, until now, from what is formerly known as cinema or stage play/drama. As part of mass media, home videos play the important roles of informing, educating, entertaining and transmitting social heritage. Through their educational role, however, home videos concern themselves with evolving a better society by exposing societal ill and wrongs. Since the emergence of home videos, at the turn of the twenty-first century the films industries, and both male and female actors in Nigeria, Nollywood, have considerably influenced the habits, belief systems, style of dressing and other behavioural idiosyncrasies on many Nigerian youths. Thus, one can say, however, that the emergence of home videos have helped to promote the Nigerian cultural heritage; aside this, it has awaken in many youths the Nigerian culture that was once lost during the colonial period. There are also negative effects of home videos on audiences. However, there have been cases where home videos are criticized to the cause for some societal ills. Social critics, who believes in this school of thought says that some antisocial behaviours like violence and extravagant life that many films portrays in their content perceptibly affect the behavior of the audience. Nonetheless, all these sum up to mean that home videos have both positive...

...Paradigm Shift: Televisions Think of a paradigm shift as a change from one way of thinking to another. Home entertainment has advanced rapidly over the course of the last decade. From VHS to DVD, CD players, surround sound systems, and televisions. The most common technology people have in their homes is the TV. A television is a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are reproduced on screens, generally used to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and education. Televisions have evolved from the big boxes with antennas on top to a sleek more attractive trend that people will spend anywhere from $500 to $5000 on. Within the next two decades I believe that today’s television will be in a museum. In twenty years I presume that the impact of televisions will rapidly advance. The television, though used generally for entertainment, will soon be used for more than just that. Social dynamics and synergistic experiences will drive more event-based viewing. While the viewing landscape grows increasingly fractured, consumers still want to be part of the collective social experience of events such as the Super Bowl or the Grammy Awards. If content creators can build a strong social experience around a program (e.g., gaming and other social second screen experiences) viewers will not want to be left out and be driven back to the screen. Bingeing will drive more innovation in measurement and personalization. “M&E companies will need to measure “bingeing”...

...Television and Media Violence – Affect on Children Exposure to Violent Television Causes Aggressive Behavior in Children Prepared for Mrs. Martha Jagel, Professor Rogers State University Prepared by Ashton Duncan, Student Rogers State University June 20th 2013 Television is the most powerful medium the world has ever seen. Never before has it been possible to communicate and so strongly influence millions of people at the same moment right in their own homes. But its misuse has been felonious, and society is paying an increasing price (Langone, 1984). Almost weekly the press carries some story about the harmful effects of television on children. Parent-teacher lobbyists wring their hands about the violence depicted on Saturday morning children''s programs. Nutritionists decry commercials that tout sugar-laden junk food to youngsters. Consumer advocates clamor against the deceptive marketing of children's toys. In Washington, D. C., politicians anxiously express their regrets, then turn to more pressing business (Landesman, 1995). This paper intends to address the behavioral effects that violent television has on children. Violence and television has been the subject of numerous controversial studies for the past thirty years. The most persistent questions have concerned aggressive, anti-social, or delinquent behavior and their link, if any, to violent television entertainment (Paik & Comstock, 1994). Numerous articles, written on almost...

...violence, substance abuse and some others. While it is difficult to determine which children who have experienced televised violence are at greatest risk, there appears to be a strong correlation between media violence and aggressive behavior within youth. Over the past 30 years there has been extensive research on the relationship between televised violence and violent behavior among youth. Televised violence and the presence of television in American households have increased steadily over the years. In 1950, only 10% of American homes had a television. Today 99% of homes have televisions. In fact, more families have televisions than telephones. Over half of all children have a television set in their bedrooms. This gives a greater opportunity for children to view programs without parental supervision. Studies reveal that children watch approximately 28 hours of television a week, more time than they spend in school. The typical American child will view more than 200,000 acts of violence, including more than 16,000 murders before age 18. Television programs display 812 violent acts per hour; children's programming, particularly cartoons, displays up to 20 violent acts hourly In closing, the evidence seems so show a very good correlation among media violence having a negative effect among children. ...Kyle Budde COM 101-002 Paper #1: Three Persuasion principles Netflix wins again One of the many avenues of persuasion comes from reciprocation when someone does or gives you something and then you feel a need to return the favor. I fell victim to this when I was a freshman in college. While in high school, my parents utilized a standard cable package with no need of buying any premium cable channels. This was the norm to me. However, as I was exposed to dorm life, I quickly realized that some of the shows on Netflix were actually very intriguing. My dorm roommate made an account and I found myself surfing through Netflix rather than flipping through channels. Everything was customized to him: because he watched Iron Man, the website suggested he watch Black Knight. There was no thinking involved, which impressed me. One night while doing homework I saw an ad for “Free Netflix for a month” I clicked on the bright red, flashing ad and signed up instantly to stream shows from my own Netflix account for free. However, in the last paragraph of the subscription sign up page, there was a paragraph describing how the company would start to charge me for the service after the first month. I told myself as I inputted my credit card information that I will not be paying for this and I will cancel within the month. As the free month rolled around, I only watched two movies, and I realized that it was time to cancel, as paying for a subscription would not be feasible since I hardly...

...Today, we live in the modern world and we need some tools for communication. Fortunately, we have various types of media such as books, radio, TV, film, theater, comics, which are used for communication. All these have some advantages and disadvantages. In this essay I consider three item of this category include TV, radio and books. In my opinion, books have had undoubted effect on people life. For many years, books were only way for communication. Nowadays, we can find a lot of old books that were written many years ago. Books have a lot of advantages. Books are known as valuable source for record information, theories and so on. We can access them all the time. Unfortunately, books have some disadvantages. Firstly, if books are not maintained carefully, they will be destroyed. Secondly, books are written in different languages, so sometimes when they are translated, some of their concept in destination languages is changed. Finally, communication through books is offline. In the beginning of twenty century, Lumiere brothers introduced industrial of cinema to the world. Because of their invention, today we have TV and radio. TV and radio in some way are similar.
