...at night before I was finally put to rest. I was looking forward to a good night rest before morning came again and I was put back on for another long days walk. I was tucked all snug and warm in my humans closet. It was dark and cozy but I knew I would not get to rest for long. I was woken up by the sounds of feet walking by and then a light was turned on. I went through this routine day after day, so I knew what to expect. I was not wrong. There were several other pairs that lay beside me but for some reason the human liked me best. Was it because I was more fashionable or was it because I was more comfortable and went with any outfit they wore. I thought it was morning but when I was taken out of my cozy spot it looked like it was still dark outside the window. Then I...

...Day 1: Had my first day today and it was very interesting. First I had an orientation where we went over general guidelines for interns at Viacom and then we signed some paperwork. Played some icebreaker games and got a crash course in all the entities that Viacom owns such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, CMT, BET. After I met with JC, one of the research analysts for MTV and I got a tour of where I was working and met fellow employees and met my supervisor Mitchell. I then attended a meeting with the research, programming and creative insight teams where we discussed millennials (people aged 15-30) and their media consumption. We watched clips about certain shows that were going to be aired and whether or not millennials would watch these shows. We also discussed other areas regarding media consumption. Day 2: I arrived early to work to start learning. The more the better in my opinion. I got acclimated at my desk and started learning the basics. I got a crash course in MTV and ratings since I am in intern in the research and strategic insights department. Then I attended a focus group regarding upcoming MTV events and gave input regarding the specific topics. Got acclimated with startrak, the system in which MTV/MTV 2 pulls ratings. Day 3: got acclimated with startrak even more. Learned some of the more difficult tasks associated with it. I learned how to pull the ratings for MTV and checked ratings that my supervisors JC, Cara, and Mitchell create. Basically its just...

...moment when we started to notice that the only way we would win was if we worked together. From that point on we stuck together as a team and nothing could tear us apart. After my experience of cross country I started to notice how I had not only grown as a runner but also as a person. I had learned a lot of important life skills such as being able to work with others during both practice and meets, and also to be a leader. We all huddled together and got ready for practice. It was the first day of 8th grade cross country and we were all super excited. All though I was slightly...

...casually went into the forest and played there for a long time till it turned dark in the evening. One day, as usual the lamb wandered far off into the forest. There he saw a spring. “I am thirsty. Let me drink some water,” he thought. He decided to take water from the spring for his thirsty. While the lamb was drinking water in the spring, a wolf watched from behind a tree. “A lamb! My lucky day!” the wolf thought, approaching the lamb. The lamb was not aware of the wolf for some time. There was no one besides these two animals to save the lamb from the wolf. “You know this forest belongs only to wild animals like me. Why have you come in here to take water from this spring?” asked the wolf. The lamb knew that wolves were dangerous animals. “Mother has warned me about wolves. I am sure this fellow wants to eat me for his lunch. This fellow is ferocious. I must escape from this animal,” he thought. The wolf continued, “You are also dirtying water. How will I drink this polluted water now?” “But the spring flows from where you are standing down to where I am standing, Sir!” said the lamb, in a meek voice. The wolf was surprised to hear such an intelligent answer from the lamb. But the wolf was just looking for an excuse to kill the lamb. “How dare you argue with me? I think you are the same lamb who had abused me last year,” the wolf shouted. “Last year? Bur Sir, I was not even born then!” the lamb squeaked. The lamb feared that the wolf was looking after a pretext...

...A Narrative: Bernadette and the Lilies In days gone by, freedom was a word I never knew. My parents were like chains, always clinging to me. As soon as I was out of school, there was a text from my dad asking if I had gotten on the bus and was okay. I would just shut off my phone so my dad couldn’t text me anymore. When I got home, there was my mom, asking me everything about my day. “Hey sweetie, how are your friends?” she would always ask. “Mom,” I would always say. “I have no friends, because every time I try to make one, you always forbid me from going anywhere with them.” Then I would shove myself away from the table and stomp off into my room. That was before I met Lily. One day, I was sick and tired of being chained. I got home from school and snuck into...

...In second grade, on the last day of school, my class was waiting to go outside for field day. As the teacher took roll call the excitement of the last day of school was overwhelming us. When she was done taking roll call she looked up from her computer at all our anxious faces. Finally she says we are dismissed, and we all run out the doors. As we get out the doors our P.E. teacher was there to slow us down and to split us up into groups because there are stations that we will go to throughout the day. My groups first station was the bounce houses, which we only got five minutes and then we had to get out and go to the end of the line. Next, my group went over to the baseball field where our P.E. teacher was slingshotting balloons. The reason...

...Derek Logsdon Core 7 Role Play Paper McFarland 11/12/2012 The Lost Souls I will never forget their faces the lovely smile and hug my mother would give me when I came home and the stern pat on the back my dad would give to greet me as well. Most of all I will never forget the feeling of love I had from my family and village. The only way I can explain it was as if I was being tucked into bed with a warm cozy fire burning next to me. Unfortunately I now find myself laying here in my cot shivering and shaking profusely covered in sweat with the images and horrors from just a mere few years ago still lingering in my mind like a pesky fly that keeps hovering around your face. I will never forget when death himself came upon us like a swarm of locusts and ripped the feeling of love and happiness from my arms. These men had the look of determination, hatred, and anger in both their eyes and faces. I hope I will never ever have to see the face of Satan himself again for as long as I shall live. It is roughly an hour and a half drive through hundreds of crop fields that look like a maze when you are trying to navigate through them in order to reach Kitaisa Village. (Bruni) Not even our countries own president has ever stepped foot into our quiet lovely village. (Bruni) I mean, if you blinked you would be through it since most of us live a distance from the main road that leads into the village. (Bruni) It is also quit difficult to reach the once proud village since...

...Insomnia I woke up, bathed in sweat. Once again a nightmare disturbed my night´s sleep. It was too early to early to get up, but I was restless. I knew I would not be able to fall asleep again, doesn´t matter how hard I´d try. I hated to get up at an unearthly hour! I rolled out of bed and trudged into the kitchen to have some lemonade. It was still dark outside and the windy weather made the trees outside scratch against my windows. The thought about my nightmare disgusted me. I drank my glass of lemonade at one go. Afterwards I went to the bathroom to get some cold water in my face to refresh up a bit. I looked myself in the eyes in the mirror with dislike, wondering why such nightmares were torturing me night after night. I hated myself for that, but could not help it anyway. All day long at work I was absent and worn out. All I could think about was that I wanted some sleep. I felt like I did not sleep a wink last night. Pictures from the nightmare whirled around in my head like an infinite movie. The whole day was a pure nightmare too, people looked strangely at me like I was a sick person instead of asking how I felt. But on the other hand I would not like to answer if they did anyway. None of their business. That night I lay in my bed and stared around in the room for indefinite time. I felt so tired, but I was afraid of falling asleep to get hunted by nightmares again. I thought about how I could make an end of this riot. I was sick and tired of that condition. I was...

...Suicidal As I lay on the cold locker room floor I watched as they laughed at me from above. It was only my second week at this school. I have given no reason for them to not like me. As I was laying on the ground I was thinking about how much I missed my old school and how much I missed my old friends. I wanted to disappear into a black hole. I got up off the floor and ran out of the locker room. I was so embarrassed. I went to my locker and called my Mom. I told her what happened and that they were calling me fat and that Clarice pushed me on the ground. She came to pick me up and we went home to talk about what happened at school. The same kind of things kept happening for the next couple weeks. People were giving me a hard time for being...

...It was a warm day on March 28, 1862 in Glorieta Pass when my brother came running through the door. "The Unions are coming! And the Confederates!" I looked at him with a blank stare. They were supposed to be at Pigeon's Ranch, which, guaranteed, wasn't too far away but still. I had heard about the war between the Confederates and the Union, the Civil War, but why would they be coming here? To our part of the town? Just then, I heard gunshots coming from outside. I looked out our window and saw men in dark blue uniforms , and on the other side, there were some people in gray uniforms and some people with regular farming clothes on. On the side with the dark blue uniforms, I recognized two of the men- Colonel John R. Slough and Major John Chivington....

...I was wondering around cold and scared. I saw people on my team being chased, hiding, and trying to figure out who to trust. Then, out of nowhere some guy ran toward me. “Ah!” I screamed as I tried to escape. Hold up, let me rewind a bit. The day started out like any normal day. I went to school, played volleyball, and then went to LOL: Live Out Loud, my church group. When game time came around the leaders told us we were going to play Romans and Christians, a game I had not played up to that point. The leaders then led us boys to the other side of the church, and told us that since it was Friday we could play on the whole side. On the walk there my friend Kyle taught me how to play. “Okay,” he said,”There are two teams Romans and...

...Life By: Usman Quddus Khan The sun glaring through the window woke me up. I got out of bed and got dressed. I proceeded into the kitchen where I ate cold cereal for breakfast, just like every morning for the past 3 years. It was time to go to work. I stepped outside and walked at a leisurely pace down Malcolm Ave. It was the best time of year for my line of work: the summer when all of the tourists came to New York. I got to the city square, and as usual, the very same cliques were there, and in numbers today. 'It looks to be a very good day,' I thought as I smiled to myself. I saw a white man in his late 30's. Guessed he looked kind of lost. 'Perfect,' I thought to myself. “Time to work.” I calmly and confidently stepped up to the man. "Hello, sir. Can I help you?" "Yes. I am looking for the Malcolm Hotel." "Yes, yes... Oh, okay. Go three blocks down, and take a right. It will be on your left. You can't miss it" "Thank you." "You're welcome. Have a good day sir." I walked away with not only a smile on my face, but with the man's wallet in my pocket. I opened it up to see 48 dollars, a Discover, and a MasterCard. A couple of hours and 4 wallets later, I decided to get lunch. So far, I had acquired 6 credit cards, 726 dollars, and several patent leather, hand-made Italian billfolds. I decided to go to my favourite place a little bistro called daVinci's. They have the best pizza. But then, I saw the man. He was about 6 feet tall, with a dark chocolate complexion. He...

...school track team win the regions. The obstacle’s I had to overcome for me to help my team get the win was for me to go to practice after physical therapy because my knee was messed up from playing basketball. The reason I say this because I was playing basketball before track season started and I had a bad knee injury just a little bit. So I had to go to physical therapy to help strengthen my knee back to its full health. I also had to work mighty hard on my events which were 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run. The way I practice for these events was by running two laps in the beginning of practice very slowly to maintain things with my knee. Than I did my excises to losing up my body. Next I ran the bleachers to strengthen my leg muscles. Finally I ran my 1600 meter run, took me a two minute break. Then I stated my 800 meter run and I did this frequently until the big day came. As well as going to my physical therapy to make things go smooth before for my big day. When the big day came my teammates and me where a little bit nerves that day to, but we pulled it together. We went out there and did what we had to do to get the win. When it was time for me to run my team was a little cheerful for me as I ran my races that day. Eventually everything that I did helped, we got the win and it paid off in the end.
