THE PASSION TO TEACH

After reading the statement above, the words “passion” and “teach” strike me the most. With due respect, I would like to criticize this statement. Almost anyone can teach, given the proper materials such as lesson plans with teachers talk in it. Recently, the Japanese have designed a robot which looks like a human to sit in class and teach. This robot even responds to the children. What difference then is the robot from us teachers? What I think the topic statement is means is “the passion to educate”. The main difference between a teacher and an educator is that a teacher simply covers necessary subject content that students should know. An educator on the other hand is someone who deems his “job” as a calling and finds teachable moments on top of covering content. He also assesses situations and shows genuine concern for the students in terms of character development as well as academics. This would mean that the teacher’s knowledge would be personal, experiential and emotional based ( Fried, 2001; Hargreaves, 1994; Noddings, 1984). If the topic statement is interpreting teaching as educating, I would feel disappointed as I certainly have failed as an all-rounded educator in the sense that I deem myself simply as a transmitter of knowledge. However effective this transmission of information to my students is, I do not touch on character development and other important social skills due to various factors. This statement also reinforces the need to know that educating is not considered a job, rather a vocation. I also believe that something has to be amiss somewhere in our education system in order for the Ministry of Education to request teachers to have a passion to teach. I suppose the aspect of being passionate must be lacking among a considerable amount of teachers. Relating back to the example I quoted earlier regarding the

Teach Like a Pirate

...Teach Like A Pirate Part 1 of Teach Like a Pirate is divided into 6 sections: Passion, Immersion, Rapport, Ask and Analyze, Transformation, and Enthusiasm. Passion can be divided into content passion, professional passion and personal passion. A teacher who is fully immersed in the moment has a special type of intensity that resonates with great power in the classroom, regardless of the activity. Building rapport is all about interacting with your students as fellow human beings, not just subordinates. Rapport is important because it helps create buy-in. Ask and Analyze says that if you consistently ask questions that lead to creative and outside-the-box thinking, your mind will provide you with creative and outside-the-box answers. The Honda Odyssey example is so true! Transformation deals with reframing. A teachers job is to create a mental paradigm shift by reframing the content and its value and relevancy to their lives. Enthusiasm is contagious. Your attitude carries with it your single most powerful tool to influence your classroom. Part 2 of Teach Like a Pirate discusses crafting engaging lessons. I learned many ideas from Dave Burgess’ hooks. I liked “Move It, Move It”. It encourages kinesthetic activities in the classroom. We do a lot of music and movement in Kindergarten. I have also used the “People Prop” hook by having groups make human letters with their bodies. (ex: making the letter A by laying on the floor) The “Picasso” hook is used...

Employee Incentives

...Individual Research Paper: Employee Incentives The purpose of this paper is to discuss incentive programs for teachers. In a society where education is more important as ever, public school districts should be thinking of new ways to encourage their teachers to remain in the educational field. Teachers are leaving their desired profession to find employment that has enhanced incentives. According to Management-People, Performance, Change, “a growing number of companies are launching inititives so that employees can balance their family and work life. The most common inititives are redesigning work, alternative work arrangements, leaves, time-saving assistance, emotional well-being, financial assistance, legal assistance, relocation, health benefits, wellness, parenting, childcare, child develepment, exceptional care giving services, and handling family issues in the office.” In order to preserve respected, qualified, and experienced teachers, incentive programs for educators need to be improved. The school district I will be discussing has 18 schools. According to Connecting Business to the Future website, the school district “is one of the newest school districts in their state. In 2008, it was surveyed to have more than 15,500 and 2000 staff members.” The school district is the 2nd largest employer in their county. I interviewed two high school teachers, and one principal from the school district. They all agreed there is a large turn over with teachers and one...

...Imagine a place where you do not have to worry about where your next meal is coming from or buying a purifier to drink your water and having the choice of fresh organic foods at your disposal. Well imagine no more because Passion Town is here. Passion Town is a large city with plenty of country side with fields of flowers and trees. Its location is right next to the hot springs. Some say they believe these hot springs have healing powers but you can make that judgment for yourself. In our town we do numerous charity events to help the community. In these charity events we begin them by explaining what they are donating their money for. Then we introduce them to the families that they would be assisting with their money. Once that is done the charity process begins and ends with a light snack and refreshments for the guest. These charity events occur twice a month at different locations each time. We do that so everyone from different areas that need help can attend this event. Passion town has a diverse population of 2,500 people. There are 50% males and 50% females that dwell here. Everyone is equal in Passion town. Males and females are granted the same opportunities and treated with the same respect. Some of our civil laws are: wearing clothes in public, covering your mouth when sneeze/cough, and no public smoking unless you are in a smoking section facility. The penalties for each offense...

Personal Philosophy of Nursing

...I will be discussing a few different cores of nursing. One core of nursing is delivering quality care to the needs of the patients and families. You can do this through education, teaching and listening. The second core of nursing is patient education. “Patient teaching regardless of what medical condition or injury a patient is being treated for the success of the recovery process will be greatly affected by how well educated the patient is about what they are suffering from. (Right Health Community, 2008) Nurses should teach the patient about medications, and how to manage their daily living. The last core of nursing is love and passion for others. Why is one in nursing if they do not have love and passion for others? Without love and passion, patient outcomes are affected. You can show love and passion in a variety of ways. One way of showing love and passion could be taking the time to talk to a patient who does not have visitors or family. Love and passion helps the patient know that you care and will be with them in their time of need. These are some great cores of nursing to go by. There are a couple different focuses of nursing. One focus of nursing is helping the staff and getting all work done. Another focus of nursing is the patient. Patients should always come first. Nurses spend a...

...of making tests and assignments to evaluate students understanding and  knowledge of the concepts of the course information.  The assignments should help students  understand components of the course and learn new interesting information on certain topics.  The  tests, which are made by the professor, should be based off of the information taught in class and  should not have new information that the students have not learned before.  The key duty of the  professor is to help students learn the content of the course and provide them with the necessary  tools for them to succeed. Everyone will have a different definition of the ideal university professor. In my opinion through the  university experience, a professor's job is to teach and research. Teaching and researching to me are  the professor's two key duties. Majority of college professors have a Ph.D. Holding a Ph.D., many can  say that the professor is an expert in his field. With all the material the professor has learned in his  education, he then teaches it to the students in the lecture, so that the information is "carried on".  Professor's job is definitely not easy and very time-consuming, finding material, setting up a  presentation, find textbook questions, etc. Researching is another important duty for the professor  to complete. With his/her vast knowledge, the professor can find new information using present-day  material. To me, there are two mandatory requirements of a university professor....

Working With Your Co-Workers Analysis

...Deal With Your Co-workers A negative co-worker has the power to steal your passion. For instance, the jerk co-worker (and we have all experienced this person as a co-worker or a boss) is so rude that they can make you feel horrible about yourself and the job you are doing. What's worse is that they often treat other people with respect as they treat you horribly. It's hard to be passionate about what you do when you are being treated like that. However, dealing with the jerk will help you feel better. You can try confronting them and telling them your honest opinion of how they are treating you, but if that doesn't work, remember that a jerk is not happy with their life. There is something about their life that they hate, and it could be something serious, such as they have lost their family, have an illness, have been...

Career Choice

...Reference………….…………………………………………………………………………….11 April 21, 2014 Susan Williams DeVry University Subject: Career choice for Susan Williams INTRODUCTION In the United States students often graduate with an idea of the career path they will go down. There are some students who have no idea what direction or career path they are going to take once they have received their diploma. There are some who change the course of their career path they have been educated for in mid-stream or after graduating from college. I have a student, Susan Williams who wants to travel and use her degree at the same time. Her degree is in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. The student wants to travel and teach children because that is where her real passion is. Although she can possibly use her business administration/accounting and travel, teaching children is on the other end of the spectrum in comparison to her education. I don’t think she would enjoy her travels or teaching as much if she did both. Purpose The purpose of this report is to determine the career path for Ms. Williams. Teaching is a great career and very rewarding, accounting is equally rewarding. The primary goal of this report is to show which path in a chosen field would be better for Susan, the pros and cons, and...
