Finding the occupation that I chose was not difficult, considering that I followed the easy-to-follow instructions that were given for this assignment. I was amazed at the information that is available today for job seeking and career change. I have never heard of O*NET prior to this class. I feel that the website is very resourceful and user-friendly. The O*NET website can be navigated with ease. One can view the salary range for their desired occupation, knowledge of the position in which they are seeking or currently employed and also they will be able to research the skills that are required for their desired occupation. Working from this website makes it smoother when you want to transition to a new position or change your career. All the tools that are needed to make a sound decision are right at your fingertips. I was thoroughly impressed with how to check your education and find additional training towards your occupation of interest. When you enter a zip code, choices are made readily available to you. When looking for certifications in your field, you can go to “find certifications”, which is a helpful tool, it allows you to view the common certifications that are required for your selected occupation. You will quickly be able to see the organizations that you would seek to get the required certifications. To take the certifications a step further, this tool also show additional detail. You will be able to view when you are to update and renew the particular certification, whether you will have to take a re-examination or renew through Continuing Education Units (CEU). Job Outlook allows you to advance your search. I was able to see the national map of jobs for my chosen career. In addition, the map breaks down by states that are below and above average in the career workforce. This information is helpful to anyone that is looking or willing to relocate for a job. Overall, O*NET is a website that I would definitely use in the near future and continuously. O*NET allows me to explore more about my occupation by suggesting other careers in the industry that may be of interest to me and education information.
