...blink of an eye, but as it did I was changed along the way. Since the first day of class I thought I was comfortable and confident in who I was becoming as an individual. Although as naturally imperfect beings we can be wrong sometimes. I was wrong this time, the person I was becoming was not constantly aware of the way other people felt when communicating. As one of my weaknesses I tend to judge group settings and make an overall assumption they all feel the same way. Yet this class taught me differently, it taught me that although some people in the group can feel a certain way, not all. Through the semesters’ teaching’s I am now able to read these situations much clearly now. Also I appreciated getting to know everyone s strengths it made me help to look outside of the individual I was talking to and more in depth to who they are. It made me look at them and understand why they were feeling that way. I even began to use it outside of school, to wonder what strengths they had and maybe that's why we clashed. This class has taught me a great deal of looking at an individual carefully and understanding them first before making assumptions. The strengths test gave me much insight into who I was and why I was the person I am. Yet it wasn’t only the strengths test that gave me greater insight it was the presentations, evaluations and tests we were given inside this class. I learned through this class specifically that being confident in who I am helps me tell my story with hope and...

...“Identity Essay” “Who am I?” I am Ashley. I am what I like and dislike. I am what I believe in. I am my choices and experiences. I am what I do. I am where I live. I am who others have made me to be and I am who I have chosen to be. Most people do not consider all of the different ways they can be identified. There are countless different things I would use to describe myself and taking this course has added numerous more descriptors to my identity. The widely accepted definition of culture from Devito does a wonderful job including the things I would use to define my culture. The definition states: “Culture is a relatively specialized lifestyle of a group of people (values, beliefs, artifacts, behaviors, ways of communicating)”. Those are all examples of different aspects of my life that I would use to describe myself. For me, my values and beliefs are a strong sense of who I am. I am also very openly supportive of my values and beliefs. I am not afraid to inform people about how I feel about an issue, whether it is politics or something in athletics. If there is something that I strongly support or I am strongly against people know. I feel that many other people would use my values and beliefs to describe me as well since I make them so known. Co-cultures do a brilliant job of helping to identify one’s culture. They each describe a different part of one’s identity and combine to form each person as a whole. I can define myself by using several different...

...my Sexuality I have always felt differently about my sexuality growing up. We always hear “a man is supposed to be with a woman,” but I did not feel attracted to women, there was always this attraction to men. With me being from a small town, there was always this fear of hurting my family, so I kept it bottled up inside of me until the age of 16. Then I finally decided to tell the man that I Idolized most! When telling this to my grandpa he said “you can’t help who you have feelings for, as long as you are happy, you will be loved no less.” He then encouraged me to tell the rest of my family, and I did and of course, with mixed reactions. Starting to realize the difference of my attraction to men at the age of 9 or 10 made me realize that there was a problem; we were raised in a Pentecostal church. I knew that it was wrong for a man to be with a man. When my friends would stay all night I would have mixed emotions about what I was supposed to do and what I wanted to do. I always, of course would be in the closet with one of the girls or something like that, but did not want to be. So for many years I kept up this “fantasy,” I lived in a small town, which was a very racial town. My family “name” was very important to our family. My grandparents (father’s side) were pillars of the community and owned several businesses and my Aunt and Uncle were both school teachers in the community. It was very difficult for me to show my true self and it ate at me for years. I was very good...

...3 October 2009 Out of the Ordinary To think of something or a person who has influenced me is a very difficult task. It took me some time to think of something until I came to this object. Most people would focus on the typical aspect of writing an influential paper on being a human. The interesting thing is, is that this object has been the television. Well, not just television, but the reality and fictional shows on television. If you can believe it, my goals that I have for my future have been based on some shows I have seen on television. When growing up, I always knew I wanted to be in a profession where I would help people. Whether it was to be a veterinarian, nurse, a doctor, dentist, surgeon, pediatrician, I wanted to do it all. Blood, guts, and gore were not a factor in making this decision. The one factor that did however was a surgeon on a reality television show. This show deals with so many different cases of people who want to improve their looks or fix a birth defect. Before I knew it, Dr. 90210 was leading me to the next big step in my life. Well-known surgeons from Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York were a part of this show. They each had their own unique talents and different “style” of performing surgeries. The person who I spend the most time watching is Robert Rey. He is performing the type of surgeries that interest me the most which is strictly “plastics”. The other surgeons are also dermatologists and OBGYN’s instead of focusing on just...

...paper we will be talking about how laws are made and by who they are made. Then we will also be talking about three different types of laws that are society leans on every day. Moving in to who is responsible for using the laws and what the functions of laws are with in society and business. That will bring us to the point of talking about the commerce clause and what role this clause has on my current job and the whole trucking industry. Within that clause we will be talking about a few of the laws that Congress has set forth for the trucking industry and what impact it has on people like me the driver. Who makes the Laws? Laws are a very important function in today’s society and business. Without laws what would the world be like? Well to answer this question we must first know who writes the laws, what laws are, and who is responsible for using the laws. We must also see firsthand how these laws affect us as a society and as a business. First let’s take a look at who makes laws. Laws are made by three branches of the government. These branches are the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The executive branch is made up of the president and vice president who have to sign all laws before they go into effect. This is only after the legislative branch has made and voted on any law that they believe should be in effect. The legislative branch controls the funding for making new laws and is made up of Congress, the Senate, and the House...

...April 18, 2006 Who Am I? In writing a paper about myself all thoughts that come to my mind are totally vain. I want to use all the descriptive adjectives that I can possibly thank of, and embellish on any good features that I have. I thought about all the awards that I had won in high school and gotten at church and thought surely I must let everyone know about these. I pondered how well I dress and thought this is a must read issue. I gave a lot of thought to my good looks and thought I certainly can incorporate this in my paper. Then I looked into the mirror and asked myself, who are you, really and the answer came back to me. I am someone that wears many different hats. Some are quite perplexed but most are just that of the average guy, Average, that’s one word I never use in describing myself, for I always think of me as very extraordinary. So I decided to share with the world who I really am. It is amazing that when asked, “who am I” the first thing that comes to mind is “what am I”. So often we define ourselves by the “what’s” (job title, social status, degrees and accolades, etc.) rather than the “who’s” (believer in Jesus Christ, loving mother, dedicated to meeting the needs of friends and love ones). When beginning this assinment the major things that came to mind were the what’s rather than who and what are my worldviews? For me it took a lot of thought and examination to really determine “Who Am I”. This paper will demonstrate who I am from creation, early...

...Mylisah Choate September 16,2014 Psyc 2301 “Who Am I” Essay Trapped in Bewilderment I pulled my hair back, twisted my t-shirt with my sports bra strap, checked my makeup and breezed out of my parent’s house with my sports bag. My teammates and I had have held two state champs in softball, and there never seemed to be a Sunday when we weren’t using the gym to our advantage. Our goal was to be in open gym before the baseball team. I think it was our way of showing off our athleticism in a feministic kind of way. I have always been your average girl with dark pigmented skin, brown hair and eyes, very athletic and outgoing, always excited to learn something new, got along with everyone, held a decent grade point average that got me through high school and onto college. I was the kind of girl of every man’s dream; according to most of the guys I know. Some of whom who took it to their advantage(s) no matter the consequences or sacrifices they were willing to take. I am going to completely drop the ball and be blunt at this point. Take out of it what you will. I have told this story a numerous amounts of times; it never changes and never will for that matter. So, I have learned that it’s best to let people think what they want, even if they think it’s all made up. The spring of 2008, I was sexually abused during one of our open gym days on a Sunday evening, by two boys just slightly older than I was. Before I encountered the unexpected. I was always attracted to this one particular...

It is the year to become the person you want to be. Junior year is my year. This year I want to show who I am and how I have grown. How I have grown to be someone I love and I could not have done it without someone who I thought I would never forgive. I could not have become the person I am today without my father. John Christopher Brissenden has shaped who I am without being here. I have taken every aspect of my life and shaped it based on his life decisions and choices. A father is someone who creates you. A dad is someone who is there to watch...

Every math problem I have ever encountered seemed great and challenging. What a thrill, right? You might be wondering why does she think math is so entertaining, is she crazy? Basically, I have had an interesting experience with math, had great knowledge of math, and had been thought to be a good candidate for being in the math field, which has led to my love of math. Of all experiences I have had with mathematics, one I am quite fond of is when I got the highest score in the class, and got everyone’s test...

...Entry 1: Dear Diary, I am just now leaving The United States of America and on the plane right now as I’m writing this. Mama, Walter, Ruth, and Travis all dropped me off at the airport to say goodbye. It was really hard because I know I will not see them for a while, but they know what’s best for me. I know Mama wanted me to be with George, but he truly just wasn’t for me. He wanted me to be someone who I was not. He tried to push me away from who I am. I am Beneatha and proud of myself and family and since he couldn’t respect that I had to let him go. I hope Mama will understand why I did such a thing. She will never know how much I love her. As I am looking out of this window at the little specks of houses diapering I am thinking about what my future holds. I wonder if I have made the right decision, but I can only hope so. Joseph has changed my view of life. He has changed me for the better. I have always wanted to help others after I had watched the little boy in my neighborhood cut his head open. I know I am not the greatest follower of god, but I think this might be his plan for me. To look after the sick and diseased. I am delighted I have met Asagai. It’s almost like he is my other half because when I am with him I feel so alive and free. He makes me feel wanted and loved. He may not be the rich like George, but I love him just as much, if not more. Looking out into the clouds I see a happy future. Saving lives, curing patients, and caring for all who have been hurt. My...

...Things in Life Make Us Who We Eng090 December 11, 2012 The Things in Life Make Us Who We Are Everyone has had a day to day struggle, but the things in life make us who we are. We, the people, should use our experiences as lessons learned. First, we shall overcome any hurdles put in our paths. On the other hand, I look at my life as motivation, to strive to become the best person I can be. Finally, the things in my life: the struggles, my outlook, and the future are only shaping me into that impeccable person I am becoming. Every person has gone through adversity. Initally, it is up to you to determine your fate. Next, overcoming being out on my own at the age of eighteen was my biggest challenge. It is like I went from being a child to having to grow up overnight. Then, I had to learn to fend for myself and learn to be strong and independent. After all, I had already become a mother. I had my first child coming right out of high school, and I was a hard head. Again, the things in life make us who we are. I had a responsibility now. All in all, I had had ups and downs as a single mother when it came to jobs and housing to support my family. I had no one to run to or confide in, all I had were my babies and myself. I had to learn to do what it takes. I overcame many challenges that a normal teenager would yet to see. My whole outlook on life changed maybe just a year ago. As well, from the relationships to family, it made me want to work even harder. I had a family and past...

...course. Introduction It has been said that a person is the product of their environment, and that we are what we have been taught to be. Up to a certain point, this is true. As I reflect back on my own life, I continuously ask myself about who I am, and why I am the person I am. To a large part, it is how I was raised, but there are also the experiences I have been through that continue to mold the person I have become and will be in the future. Text Throughout life, I like everybody else who is alive has come to forks in the road that we travel on our journey through life. These forks in the road are choices, and the choices I have made are a large part of who I am. But, there is also a beginning or basis on why the choices were made the way they were. I was raised in a very strict household where being normal or ordinary was unacceptable, and even subject to punishment. Even mundane tasks were to be performed at superior levels. My father who is my biggest inspiration, used to tell my brother and I that “You are being paid to do your best; anything less means you are not earning your paycheck, you are stealing it, and stealing is a sin.” To this day, I keep him in the back of mind when I am going to do something. The last thing I want to do is disappoint or shame him. The second reason for my being who I am is due to the almost ten years I spent as a United States Marine, including six years as a non-commissioned officer. Before I enlisted, I was like most teenagers in...

...“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9. This bible verse is one of my favorites due to the fact that no matter the sins I have committed he will always be by my side and be the light that directs me down the path I am meant to be on. God has put me on this Earth for a reason and has as plan for me. It is up to myself to figure out the plan God has planned for me and it is important for me to know that God will be with me through it all no matter the circumstance. In order for me to discover my divine design, I first must understand myself as well as my strengths and weakness in terms of interaction with people, the way I learn, the way I make my decisions and how I deal with the world around me. Right now God is asking me to be the best person possible. He brought me to Southeastern for a reason and I am still trying to figure out that exact reason but it feels right being here. I love to be around my close friends and listen to what they have to say and then give them advice about life and the things going on around them. I am an extroverted person so I am not very shy. I believe that in the future God’s plan for me is to be around a group of young adults, maybe young kids or high school aged (young adults). I love to interact with people and I get my energy from others so being around a young group of young people would be perfect for me, kind of like...

...to influence they are. At a young age, what one learns and the environment in which they learn it will shape their work ethic and willingness to learn for all the years to come. Fortunately for me all of years of reaching maturity were exceptionally positive. In this paper I will attempt to outline the major aspects of my development and how these have shaped my values. I grew up in the Alpharetta/Roswell area (just outside of Atlanta), a sparsely populated yet relatively prosperous town then, now it is a very wealthy and densely populated city. Today it is, per capita, the wealthiest area in Atlanta. This change has led me to recognize and value growth and progress. I had a fortunate upbringing and I expect my future to be no less prosperous, and if it holds anything less for me I would consider my self a failure. I have become so accustomed to living with nice things in an affluent area, and anything less just would not feel right. From the time I was born to when I first went to school I lived in the same area and in the same house. It is hard to say how this has affected me, but I am well aware that changing location repeatedly can have a negative effect on a child. The house I lived in was relatively nice. It was a common middle-class home; not big but by no means was it small. The house we moved in to in 1994 was larger and in a much nicer neighborhood. Both neighborhoods I lived in were very nice and, in the future, I could not see myself living in anything...
