...Enron Scandal: Who did what? What went down between Fastow, Lay, Skilling, and Causey? Dillon Benjamin Lock Haven University Enron operated one of the largest natural gas transmission networks in North America, totaling over 36,000 miles (Frontain, 2002 p. 1). The company was formed in 1985 when InterNorth purchased Houston Natural Gas (McLeon, 2013, p. 1). According to Frontain (2002), “Enron managed the world’s largest portfolio of natural gas risk management contracts and pioneered innovative trading products” (p. 1). By the year of 2000 Enron was the 7th largest corporation in the United States” (McLeon, 2013, p. 1). That is who and what Enron was before everything came crashing down. Enron employed sketchy and misleading accounting practices to hide its financial losses (McLeon, 2013, p. 1). Under Jeffrey Skilling the trading operation adopted market-to-market accounting in which the present value of anticipated revenue is realized and the expected costs of fulfilling the contract are expensed once a contract is signed (Frontain, 2002, p. 2). Enron got into trouble in 2001 when Arthur Anderson, Enron’s outside auditor, correctly accounted one partnership deal that created severe quarterly losses (Frontain, 2002, p. 2). According McLeon (2013), “Those losses and subsequent profit and debt restatements caused Enron's stock price to drop, triggering the unraveling of the partnership and resulting in a sudden and dramatic financial collapse. This event led them into...

...Ethics, Who am I? How did I get here? Diana Maionchi GCU Ethics NURS 437V Professor Jean Gordon September 1, 2012 Ethics, Who am I? How did I get here? We are born with familial genes but whom we are is greatly influenced by our physical surroundings, our parents or family, and our cultural and spiritual beliefs. I have been fortunate enough to be born in the United States, which has provided me with many riches in life to include education. This education provides me with the resources necessary to make sound clinical decisions about my nursing practice. My morality is based on guidelines that have become a natural language and behavior that has instilled how things ought to be and society has accepted. (Purtilo & Doherty, 11/2010, p. 6) I am a practicing Catholic, which deeply influences how I respect life and how I contribute to the community in which I live. Christian values and morals are guiding principles, which help us lead our community and make it strong. As stated in the Bible, “In order for God’s word to take root, believers must do more than merely listen to it. They must act upon it.” (King James, 1:17-18) Simple guiding principles such as these lead us in life, community and our professions. When we provide care we are not only using our clinical skills we are using moral ethical thought to assist us in what is right or wrong for our patients. Has the physician really listened to what the patient is stating their desires are? We are with our patients...

...3. Did the Atlantic Revolutions fulfill or betray the goals of those who made them? Consider this question in both short and long-term perspectives. Although the Atlantic Revolutions helped gain some semblance of independence, it strayed away from the initial goals the regions had wanted. Although North America managed to gain freedom from British rule, its colonies were still constructed the same. Social transformation did not occur, even though many citizens thought that they were creating a “new order for the ages” within the society. This conservative movement achieved the existing liberties of the colonies instead of making new ones. The French Revolution focused their efforts to create a new society of social equality and remove the presence of monarchy. And although the country became a republic and passed universal male suffrage, it was never implemented any further. The gender roles of during the French Revolution were not fully supported by the male population, even though women sought to become more active in the major events of the revolution....

...A communication style means how individuals interact with one another and the messages they send, intentionally or not, through their behaviors. Communication is something we do every day and something that we must learn to do from day one in order to interact with others and become responsible as a member of society. We must learn to constantly improve our communication skills in order to express to other what we need and what we are feeling and to help others with their needs and problems. There are many better ways that we all communicate with each other every day. Verbal communication is one that we use. Speaking with one another and saying what we feel is one of our first steps of communication. We also communicate with our actions and expressions. Sometimes we can say more with the expression on our face than we can with words. Non-verbal forms of communications such as expressions and hand action can be an extremely powerful form of communication and an excellent way to get your message across. Another form of non-verbal communication is writing. Many people do not use this form as much as the others, but it can be one of the strongest and positive forms of communication. Writing down your thoughts or ideas allows you to organize them and say exactly what you want in a professionally orderly style. Some people do not even realize how often they do use writing to get their messages to others. Written letters have fallen out of style, but with the invention of the internet...

...King says that there is really never a “good time” to engage in direct action. He tells these men that he has heard he should wait for years but that word wait almost always means nothing will ever happen. He truly believes that “justice too long delayed is justice denied.” He also says that African Americans have already been waiting for 340 years to be treated as equal, which is their Constitutional right. Nations like Asia and Africa have been moving toward this equality and political independence very quickly, but the US seems to be taking its sweet time with the same goals. It is easy to assume that these men that are telling him to wait or that this is not the right time are white because he states that “it is easy for those who have never felt the stinging darts of segregation to say wait.” King then goes on to give many accounts of the things that he has seen occurring to those in the black community in order to prove to these men that time for direct action is now. He says that he has witnessed mobs lynch mothers and fathers, drowning’s of sisters and brothers, and policemen curse, kick, brutalized, and even kill other blacks with impunity. Over 20 million African American men are in jail and black children are struggling to understand why they can’t go to certain places and be friends with certain people just because of their race. The children are also noticing how white people treat black people, and are being genuinely hurt by it. Hotels and motels won’t accept black...

Source A, agrees that ‘Haig was an efficient and highly skilled soldier who did much to lead Britain to victory in the First World War’. The text says ‘the German casualties have been greater than ours’. This could be inferred that the Germans suffered a great amount of casualties and the allies suffered very few. Source B disagrees with the statement that ‘Haig was an efficient and highly skilled soldier who did much to lead Britain to victory in the First World War’. This source shows a poster with General Haig on and pointing to himself, the poster reads ‘your country needs me like a hole in the head’. The source is implying that using Haig as a leader would be like having a hole in the head and ultimately causing the country to die. Source C disagrees that ‘Haig was an efficient and highly skilled soldier who did much to lead Britain to victory in the First World War’.
