When Cobain turned eight, his childhood was no longer filled with happiness due to his parents divorce. After receiving a guitar for his fourteenth birthday, Cobain found an outlet for his emotions. In 1987, Cobain and his friends formed a band, which became known as Nirvana. Two years later, they came out with their first album called Bleach. During Nirvana’s first European tour, Cobain experienced his first mental breakdown while performing, not long after he began using heroine. Courtney Love, a singer in the punk-rock band Hole, and Cobain began having relations. After Love became pregnant, a few months after their engagement, the two got married in Hawaii. Two years later while Nirvana was touring their third album, Cobain attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. After his near death experience and continued use of drugs, Cobain’s friends felt that an intervention was needed. This caused Cobain to eventually enter a rehabilitation facility only to have no effect. Cobain ran away two days after being admitted and killed himself, leaving behind a suicide note addressed to his imaginary, childhood friend. These techniques show us that she is the only mature and realistic adult in her marriage, her realisation that she does not need the “perfect family” to be happy and her natural mothering skills and genuine love of children. Dialogue is a verbal feature used in Juno to make us admire Vanessa.
