...Although some people claim that animal testing is one of the best and most accurate ways to find cures to diseases on humans. However, there are many reports of failed experiments that either worked in the animal and not in humans or did not work at all. For example, Researchers at McMaster University confirms that, “about 95 percent of experimental drugs deemed safe and effective in tests on animals fail in human trials because they don’t work or turn out to be dangerous.” This study proves that in the process of animal testing the drug may seem successful in animals but it may work totally different in a human's body, in a way that might hurt the person but scientists do not see that in the animal testing. In his article, “Animal Testing is Outdated, Imperfect” Ryan Ballinger points out that, “Some medicine that is tested on animals may harm them but help us.This can be misleading and cloud our ability to find a cure for a disease. For example, aspirin is dangerous to some animals, but it helps relieve headaches in humans and provides other benefits.” The essence of Ryan's argument is that if we were to test some the most common medicines that people use today on animals and it came out with...

...pit bulls do too. Pit bulls are athletic and strong dogs that come from Bulldogs and Terriers who were crossbred to make a working and fighting breed. The core of the breed is made up of three dogs, the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire, while the term “Pit Bull” is used to refer to them. Pit bulls are misconceived to be vicious and dangerous for a variety of reasons. Considering their bad reputation, they should be legally allowed as pets for the reason that they are trainable, great companions, and their invalid history is the reason for the continuous comments...

...Dogs in school? That sounds crazy but if it is going to improve the school system for kids with mental and physical disabilities why not do it. A therapy dog is a canine that helps people with autism, diabetes, and other people who need help or comfort. They can help in a classrooms, nursing homes, disaster areas, and homes. First off therapy dogs in the classroom help students stay focused on their work. Secondly they improve the classroom by creating a better setting. And lastly therapy dogs offer safety to the classroom. Therapy dogs should be allowed in schools because students will become involved in the class because the dogs make them feel more comfortable. In schools the main problem is children focusing on what they are supposed...

...Centralized training and registration for Service Dogs Dessie Marek UMUC Abstract In today’s evolving society, there is more mobility that ever for people with disabilities. One of the things that allows this to happen is the use of service animals. Problems however arise when people try to cheat the system. Attempts to pass off pets as service animals, improperly trained animals, and businesses with lack of knowledge on laws all contribute to ongoing frustrations. The need for a centralized training standard as well as government registration and regulation of service animals is clear and immediate. If standards can be established within breeding clubs for “Good Citizen” training, then it can be done for service dogs. Then, once they are trained to standard, there is no reason an official registration system cannot be implemented. The simple act of giving an official ID to actual service dogs would alleviate the stress from business owners as well as handlers. It really is just common sense. Centralized training and registration for Service Dogs Disabilities can be life changing and world altering circumstances. For many people becoming disabled meant living a lesser life, that is until they discovered service dogs. In the united states more and more uses are being found for service dogs every day. This of course leads to frauds and problems. How do they deal with it all? Easy! There needs to be a centralized standard of training and registration system for all service...

...Dog Eat Dog? Dog fighting has been around for hundreds of years and can be traced back to Europe. The sport of dog fighting is progressively getting more and more popular. It is illegal and considered a felony under federal laws in all fifty states in the United States of America (Dogfighting Fact Sheet 1). Besides the act of dog fighting itself being illegal, there are usually always other criminal activities involved such as: drug paraphernalia, illegal weapons, illegal gambling, and gang activities. Therefore, this so-called sport of dog fighting should continuously stay prohibited, and be more harshly punished by stricter laws. This brutal and bloody entertainment sport, where dogs fight to the death, is an inexcusable example of animal cruelty. Dog fighting is believed to have started in England after bull-baiting was outlawed. Bull-baiting was a spectator sport where a bull had a rope tied around its neck and then tied to a stake in the ground. Bulldogs were then sent to attack or “pin down” the bull by grasping the bull by its nose. Many dogs would receive life threatening wounds or would be killed by the bull trying to escape the torture of numerous dogs attacking him (Luca 1). After this very popular sport was banned people who owned these bull-baiting dogs, also known as bulldogs today, began pitting these dogs against each other. After people began participating in the sport of dog fighting, people began breeding bulldogs with terriers (Background on Dog Fighting...

...Volunteering at a Dog Rescue Institution Affiliation Introduction For several weeks now, I have been volunteering at the Petco Dog Rescue where I have learnt a great deal in lessons by the regular service. At this non-profit organization, stray dogs are taken care of and potential owners come to see what dog they would love to adopt as their own. My task was helping in the transportation as well as fundraising for the service and on Saturdays I tagged my son along where he aided in selling of snacks and showing dogs to their potential owners. The big dogs need love and the walking; when I first started out as a volunteer, I noticed that there was little walking or fraternizing the bigger dogs and was given obvious reasons. As a result of this, these dogs don’t get walked much even if they’re the one needing the most walking. I would see them mellow in their cages; longing for a belly rub or a walk while the Dachshunds and Chihuahuas got all the attention. (Gobster, 2000) Unfamiliar questions humble you; why was this dog abandoned? What is the matter with him? Is that dog a stray? These are just some of the questions that came forward from people looking to adopt. I didn’t know how to answer some of the questions but the fact that I had an official shirt for the shelter, I was thought of as an employee. In cases like these, I just had to step back and admit honestly that I do not know and directing them to my superior, glad that I needn’t know everything. The old dogs need a chance...

...students to study. Although on one level the novel is an allegory of the 1917 Russian Revolution, the story is just as applicable to the latest rebellion against dictators around the world. Young people should be able to recognize similarities between the animal leaders and politicians today. The novel also demonstrates how language can be used to control minds. Since teenagers are the target not only of the educational system itself but also of advertising, the music industry, etc., they should be interested in exploring how language can control thought and behavior. Animal Farm is short and contains few words that will hamper the reader’s understanding. The incidents in the novel allow for much interactive learning, providing opportunities for students to dramatize certain portions, to expand on speeches, and to work out alternative endings. The novel can be taught collaboratively with the history department as an allegory of the Russian Revolution, allowing students to draw parallels between actual events and people and the imaginary ones created by Orwell. The novel can also be taught as a beast fable following the study of shorter fables by Aesop and James Thurber. Examining the work as a satirical comment on the corrupting influence of power, students should be able to trace the corruption of the pigs and perhaps relate their findings to individuals in our own...

...Camp Bow Wow Corporate Budgeting: Final Project My companies name is Camp Bow Wow, which is an overnight boarding facility for mainly dogs but other animals are welcome. The company was started in 2009 when the owner (Kasandra, myself) decided to become the owner of a dog named Buddy. All was well until Kasandra had a vacation planned and could not find any boarding facilities to meet the standards she was looking for. She had also recently inherited a large some of money in the amount of about 200,000 from the passing of her grandparents who also shared the love of animals with her. Kasandra used that money to find a place she could live and turn into a boarding facility and luckily she was able to find the perfect house with lots of land in the middle of town, so she got to work and the company shared its grand opening with the community in spring of 2011. The company has successfully been around for almost 3 years now offering products such as boarding, bathing, nail trims, and other products to ensure your animal is safe and happy. The location is right in the middle of the town of Appomattox so it’s perfect for people who are traveling in either direction and is known for their non-traditional animal boarding facilities, while targeting mainly dog breeds the facility is open to animals of several kinds. The reason we say its non-traditional is because the animals are not just kept in kennels all day and walked a few times unless requested by the owner, but actually...

...situation is the everyday life for thousands of mistreated animals. Since animals do not have a voice of their own, they cannot defend themselves. Animal cruelty is immorally disturbing which is why these poor, innocent creatures deserve more rights. Providing care and protection should an ethical and moral obligation, because as you should see not enough is being done. Animal cruelty is often broken down into two main categories, either active or passive. Passive cruelty, or acts of omission, is animal neglect. Examples are starvation, parasite infestations, dehydration, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek veterinary care when medical attention is needed. Active cruelty, or acts of commission, implies malicious intent in which a person has deliberately and intentionally caused harm to an animal. This behavior is often associated with sociopathic behavior and tendencies. Another disturbing behavior is a paraphilia called bestiality, also known as zoophilia. In a simple sense, bestiality involves intercourse with an animal and includes oral genital contact of any kind between humans and animals. Shockingly, this act is legal in several states. The common sexually abused animals are: cats, dogs, sheep, cows, hens, rabbits, goats, ducks, horses, bulls, and fish. All these animals are accessible, which is why they are commonly abused. Bestiality is considered abuse because it is forced sex...

Service dogs are animals specifically trained to aid their disabled owners in their everyday lives. Service dogs are a common type of professional working dog and have several branches/classifications. Each classification is trained to preform specific tasks and are given different privileges/rights when it comes to public access. A service animal preforms specific tasks or provides aid in another form to their disabled owner while other professional working dogs are focused on aiding non-disabled persons (Watson par 7). ...Smackey Dog Food Company Smackey Dog Foods, Inc is a privately held corporation specializing in natural dog food, both regular and gourmet brands. Smackey Dog is not publicly traded which is evident because they are not following many of the standards that are required through Sarbanes Oxley. Since this is a privately run corporation, they are not required to adhere to the SEC regulations, but adherence to these regulations would actually help Smackey Dog to be more efficiently run and would help them have a better handle on their operations. Although the company is not required to follow SEC regulations, the auditors are still required to follow the audit standards in place with the passing of Sarbanes Oxley. Audit planning is very important. The initial audit planning should be done in the early stages of the audit. The auditor must determine whether to accept the client. It is late in the year to accept new clients, and there are also some major issues with the way the company is being run, in spite of these challenges; Keller CPA’s has agreed to accept Smackey Dog as a client. The second stage in audit planning is to determine why the audit is needed. Since Smackey Dog is not publicly traded, there is no law that requires the company to get a yearly audit. This audit is needed because Smackey Dog is attempting to qualify for a bank loan. Sarah, the CEO of Smackey Dog has met with her banker to attempt to qualify for a $150,000 loan to expand the facilities...

...Katherine Kersey Dec-06-2013 Argument Research Essay English Comp Cruel Games Dogs are human’s best friends. While some people choose to treat dogs with kindness and respect, others are mistreating dogs by using them for their entertainment. Dog fighting is still occurring today. It is big business in many parts of the county. This often happens in areas where there is poverty. Dog fighting is seen as “the quick” money. Some highly organized groups even use a secret dialect called the “Cajon Dictionary” on social network sites to plan fighting events discretely. This cruelty is also most often linked between more crimes including; illegal firearms possession, drug trafficking, gambling, spousal and child abuse, rape, and homicide. Regardless of if you can make money from it or not, dog fighting is a very cruel activity that should never occur anywhere in the world. A dog cannot speak for itself and say, “Stop!” That’s why more people need to be aware of this epidemic and see what is being done to help end it. Ancient Romans pitted dogs against each other in gladiatorial contests, but dogs have also played practical roles in society. Dogs have long been used as hunting companions, defenders of property and protectors of livestock against poachers and wild animals. They play key roles in military and K-9 police units. French bulldogs and Old Boston Bulldogs killed household vermin and therefore made valuable pets. “In England, bulldogs that were crossbred with terriers...

...Killer Dogs There are various views on dangerous dogs and their owners. Who’s to blame for the number of attacks on kids? In what follows I shall give an outline of these views presented in three texts by three different people and also how they’ve chosen to write these texts. The first text “Police back new law on killer dogs” is written by Jamie Doward who works for The Guardian. Because of the death of the five-year-old Ellie Lawrenson there has been a national debate concerning dangerous dogs. Senior police officer Bernard Hogan-Howe believes that the current legislation is confused and needs to be overhauled. Though it seems that the owners of these dogs are the target rather than the dogs themselves. Kiel Simpson whose dog killed Ellie Lawrenson is facing a jail sentence despite the fact that he’s already serving a life sentence. “The confusion saw hundreds of people in the Merseyside area hand in their dogs to police during an amnesty amid concerns they might be prosecuted.” (p. 2, ll. 27-28). Clearly the owners seem to the problem in this text since they are the ones who have purchased these dangerous animals. “Pit bulls have certain traits but in the hands of responsible owners they would not be a danger. The act hasn’t worked; it’s failed to prevent a significant number of attacks.” (p. 2, ll. 39-40). This just emphasizes the view on this subject. Once again the owners are to blame because they haven’t been responsible when it comes to controlling their...
