...Football Football is one of the coolest sports in my opinion, because i love to hit people and catch the football. I have been playing this sport since i was a little kid and every time i get on that field i always get a rush. I always get pumped up and ready to play one of the greatest sports out there, and I strive to give it my all the whole game. For this sport it takes a lot to compete, in this game you have to be really tough because you will have guys gunning at you all night wanting to take your head off and make sure you don't get back up. Football takes mental fitness to play this game also. If you play on the offencive side of the ball this is tested every game, because you have to know who your blocking and know where the play is going and you have to know what route to run if you are a wide receiver. If you are a wide receiver you have to know the snap count and make sure you don't jump and then you get a 15 yard penalty for jumping and your coaches will not be happy....

...couldn't have been going any slower. I had no faith left in the freshman holding the entire season in his hand. One kick; whatever happened in the next few seconds had the potential to end it all. It was the second overtime, and the ball had to make it through the goal posts there was no other option. I could feel my heart pounding in my ear. Although I was standing in a sea of people, it was silent. Everyone that filled the stands was holding their breath, and all any of us could do was stare. There wasn't any specific reason that I loved Wilson football so much. I just loved it. Supporting my friends, cheering in the stands, and celebrating all the victories could make anyone love it. At home everyone knows Wilson football is the best in the area. Nothing made me happier than being able to tell people that I went to Wilson. There was only one other person that felt the same way I did. That person was my best friend Lauren. Our senior year the two of us traveled everywhere with the team going to every game....

...he scores! Just like that, the game is over. The Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! … The Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! I, together with millions of other fans watching this nationally televised game, witnessed this great phenomenon live. Now you might wonder why millions of other fans and I tuned in to see the game. The answer is because millions of fans and I love and appreciate the game of hockey. In my opinion, it truly is the most exciting game both to play and to watch. While playing hockey and watching hockey are obviously two very different activities, they have at least one thing in common; they are both very fun. Let us take a closer look at each activity individually and see why so many others and I enjoy it so much. I sincerely enjoy the thrill that I receive while playing hockey. I am not alone about this feeling. If you were to ask someone that plays hockey, as to why they play, one reason he or she will almost definitely tell you is something along the lines of that, “they love the thrill that the game has to it”. Now obviously, when I say the word “thrill”, it is not the same type of thrill that one might receive through skydiving, or the likes. Rather, the thrill that comes from playing hockey is of a less risky breed. I love playing sports in general. So maybe it is easier for me to come across as someone that loves hockey. So let me set it...

...King, Peter. "Concussions The Hits That Are Changing Football." Sports Illustrated. 01 11 2010: Web. 13 Sep. 2012. Dr. Ann McKee an associate professor of neurology and pathology at Boston University who has been studying the brains of deceased football players, wanted to illustrate the damage that repeated hits to the helmet can cause. When she slipped a slide of a cross section of a human male brain into the microscope it showed hundreds of tiny brownish triangular bits of a toxic protein called tau which chokes off cellular life in the brain. The slide of the cross section was 10-year NFL offensive lineman Lou Creekmur. “You can see that there are hardly any areas untouched by the damage, I would call it incredible chaos in the brain, Lou was demented when he died” said McKee. Over the past three years McKee has been given the brains of sixteen former NFL players, some of whom suffered dementia and ALS of severe depression. The families of the players wondered whether there was a link between football and the psychological, physical or behavioral problems that afflict some older players. Testing has been completed on fourteen of the brains; thirteen were diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes (and others) with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including concussions as well as hits to the head. A film was showed to all 32 teams about the hits and...

...The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team in the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They are based in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. The team currently plays their home games at Texas Stadium in Irving, but they are scheduled to move to a new stadium in nearby Arlington in 2009.[1] The Cowboys joined the NFL as a 1960 expansion team.[2] The team's national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive games in front of sold out stadiums. The Cowboys' streak of 160 sold-out regular and post-season games began in 1990, and included 79 straight sellouts at their home, Texas Stadium, and 81 straight sell-outs on the road.[3] An article on Forbes Magazine's website, published September 13, 2007, lists the Cowboys as the most valuable sports team in the world, with an estimated value of approximately $1.5 billion, ahead of the Washington Redskins ($1.467 billion) and the New England Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne were awarded a National Football League (NFL) expansion franchise on January 28, 1960, located in Dallas, TX. At the annual meeting, they purchased the team for $600,000 (Bohls 1). They were given the status of a “swing team” meaning that they would play every other team in the league their first season of play. They were displaced in the Western Division Standings. Murchison’s and Wynne’s next moved was to high their front office personnel which were:...

Football players not standing for the National Anthem is wrong; the football players should be required to stand because they are disrespecting our country, soldiers are fighting for the football...

...Essay on hooliganism In this essay I will discuss why hooliganism exist, what makes a person become a hooligan and what characterizes a hooligan and hooliganism as a whole? They hunt in packs like wolves, fueled by drugs, hooked on violence. Some are as young as 15. They make a plan to arrange showdowns against other rival ''firms'' at agreed locations. This is a quotation from the French documentary ''Fucking Hooligans''. But why does hooliganism exist in general, there are a lot of reason to it, but the main ones are mentioned. In the text ''Among the Thugs'' and the film ''Fucking hooligans'' it expresses the lifestyle of a group of lads who have a lot of things in common. They drink a lot, smoke a lot and foremost they love to fight, the typical formula for a hooligan. They're the most dangerous. They're the ones who start most of the fights.(p.4-l.12-13). The hooligan culture is not just a culture for some people but a bond between brothers, or in other words it is another family for them. There are plenty of reasons why ''someone'' becomes a hooligan. People normally become involved through two ways, either through friends and family or their choice of a new lifestyle. The main reason why people decide to become a hooligan is that it is just fun when it kick's off. It's an adrenaline thing, you cannot get that kind of buzz through anything else. But half the time it's not even about fighting, it is about being around your mates, having a laugh on a match day and...

Because I’ve played in a lot of places especially on defense for example I’ve played nose guard, left and right...

...dominant examples to prove he’s a bad parent. He doesn’t support his children in their dreams, he’s never shown that he loves his children, he’s an alcoholic, and when he’s drunk Troy gets aggressive towards Cory. One way Troy demonstrates he’s a bad parent is by not supporting his children in their dreams. “Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I can’t play football no more. Wouldn’t let me play the game told him to tell the recruiter not to come.” (Wilson, 57). In the play Troy and his youngest son Cory fight many times about football. Cory is a talented athlete who enjoys football and wants to play for his high school team. Troy on the other hand doesn’t approve, he believes that black people don’t get the same opportunities as whites. While he may be talented he will never make it as an athlete out in the world. It still doesn’t justify why Troy can’t support Cory and let him play football....

...“For the Love of the Game” I have had a lot of great times throughout my life; the one past memory that stands out the most to me is playing for my high school football team. The time I had spent on the football field as a teen was without a doubt the best time of my life. It’s been a long eight years since I have played football but, I can’t go a day without reflecting back on my ball playing days. Every time I see a high school football game I wish I could turn back the hands of time and play football for my high school again and relive all the great moments I spent with my teammates again. Growing up, I went to a lot of different schools, because my family moved a lot so as result I never had steady solid friendships also as a pre-teen I was getting in to trouble and spending too much time on the streets and not focusing on my studies. I was skipping a lot of school and starting to rebel a lot. I was headed on the wrong track my older brother took a notice to this and stepped in to steer me back on the right course. His suggestion was joining football. He said I had too much free time and nothing positive going on and looking back he was right. He helped gain an interest in football and got me signed up on the team. My brother being such a positive person and looking out for me and my future and playing on the football team really saved my life as I look back. If he never helped me get into football who knows what my future would have held. When I became...

...I have always heard others say, “I’ve made decisions that I regret, but I take them as learning experiences because we are all human, and are not perfect.” All my life this has stuck in my head. Why regret something when you will never have the chance to change the past? Since I was big enough to pick up a ball, I fell in love with football. My household since I was only a toddler has revolved around me playing any sport that ends in -ball. This summer I made a decision that would take football away from my life. Since I was only a small child, I can recall always having a toy ball in my hands. Growing up I was involved in every little league sport my parents would put me in. There was just something about the fresh cut grass in football...

...My whole life I’ve been playing football and also watching football. To me football has been the best thing that has happened to my life. I love it so much, just how the game works with all the pieces that come together. Playing football gives you a better understanding of the game. I’ve played football for 8 years, throughout those years; my knowledge of the game has increased so much. Playing the sport really helps you compare yourself to them and gives you a better understanding on why penalties happen. Now in recent years football has taken a big turn in player safety. I feel that player safety is important but still is ruining the game. The public affected it big time. There are many rules of what you can and can’t do. Some are; tackling with the helmet, tackling a quarterback below the waist, and moving the kickoff to the 35 yard line. In all the penalties that have changed professional football, I know this has the biggest impact out of all of them. What this penalty is, when tackling the person with the ball you’re not allowed to lean with your helmet, also with that rule you cannot explode from your feet when tackling them too. Throughout my football career, I played safety, which this penalty aims towards at. The safety is the furthest person away from the quarterback and the main threat to the passing game and then run second. If you watch football, you can see that it is unfair to them, because when being taught to tackle, we are taught to drive thru with our hips...

...the Concussion Battle? Can We Tackle the Concussion Battle Within Football? Introduction The National Football League (NFL) or as some people may say, “Not for long” is responsible for some of the greatest athletes. Excellence appears to be their one goal, which is to win Super Bowl championships. Some players perform at a high level for a while, whereas others don’t have a chance at experiencing actual playing time on the field at all. NFL players are less and less likely to have a definitive long-term career in the NFL. On average their career may span for about 3 ½ years (Stradley, 2011). (Workman Pub Co, 2002) The NFL has added several new teams, provided innovative equipment, additional rules, distinctive playing styles, but most importantly there has been a revolutionary change of the NFL culture. The game of football is being played at a faster pace and players are becoming larger, and intelligent (Wharton, 2011). While the sport of football can be stressful, competitive, entertaining and enjoyable, it also poses a dangerous threat of injury. One of the more common injuries within playing or watching football are concussions. Over the past few years concussions have become a more serious endangerment to those who play, from new evidence we have seen on the effects on the brain and how it can affect a player’s future. The purpose of this project is to investigate the current status of football and concussions in finding a solution to reducing head trauma in players...
