When we were given this essay I had the best idea. Why students like baseball its perfect I knew it right away. Students like baseball because of hitting, fielding and base running. Students also like baseball because it is a team sport. They get to have their friends as teammates.
One reason students like baseball is hitting. What everybody wants to do is make contact with the ball. That’s not always going to happen. Sometimes they strike out. Sometimes they will bunt or hit a homerun. When students hit pop fly’s most of them get very mad but sometimes the fielder drops the pop fly. That’s when they run for the base as fast as they can. Try to get safe. Students just always want to do their best. Sometimes they make mistakes. People

Drugs Can Change a Person

...Drugs Lauren English 1101 Heather Ostrow September 17, 2009 Drugs Can Really Change a Person When I was young, my brother and I grew up with everything.  My parents made sure we had everything and grew up living a happy healthy life.  My brother, David, being two years older than me, was my idol.  I always looked up to him and wanted to be just like him.  Little did I think, he would leave me wanting to have nothing to do with him. My family was all born in Houston, Texas, where David and I attended local public schools.  He was always a straight A student with honors.  He played baseball and was developing what everyone thought would be his career.  David surrounded himself around many friends and loved going places with them.  I always wanted to go with them but my brother always told me I was too young.  David loved baseball; he was the star pitcher and short stop for the high school team, when he was still in the eighth grade.  He had the dreams of becoming a baseball player for the Atlanta Braves.  He had every opportunity to have success in achieving his goal.  His coaches, teachers, and family were so proud of the way he accomplished everything.  Every move he made, I felt as if everyone was applauding him.  Then everything took a turn.    My mother came home from work one day and we could all see something was wrong.  I’ll never forget those words that came out of her mouth, “We have to move, I’m being transferred.”  She explained that we...

High School Persuasive Speech

...“When I recruit these kids, I promise their parents I’m gonna graduate ‘em. Most of ‘em are not gonna be Tour players. We’ve got to rember why they’re here: to get a degree.” These breathtaking words proclaimed by the Tulsa University head golf coach Bill Brogden, moved many people. These people that were moved were coaches, parents, spectators and teachers. Rick Rilley goes into a story that had Tulsa on the map for something positive. The golf team was tied against Southern Methodist University at the end of 54 holes for the Western Athletic Conference championship. As there would be a sudden death playoff hole with 10 golfers to determine the conference champion Tulsa was in a bit of a predicament. Tulsa had to catch a 4:30 flight and the...

Coach Recruiting Strategy

...Some coaches try to hide possible negative aspects of the school in order to sign recruits, but if they do this then the coach runs the risk that the recruit might want to transfer once he gets on campus and sees the things the coach hid from him. At Erskine, the first thing recruits are told is that the school is in the middle of nowhere, it is baseball and school. If they want to get a good education and reach their potential as a baseball player this is the place to do it, there are no distractions. Once we find out what possible major the recruit is thinking about, they will receive information about that major and possibly meet with a professor in that area. The coach who is recruiting the athlete will then take the recruit and his family on a tour of the campus, let them see the dorms, classrooms, student center, and dining hall. After the visit, the recruit will receive a scholarship offer letting him know how much it will cost to come to...

Personal Philosophy in Education

...they think about what they truly believe. For me, this was these past few weeks. I sat down and really thought about my beliefs about education. I thought about my beliefs on children, the value of education, and the role of teachers. These thoughts helped me to form my own philosophy about education as a whole. This will be important for me becoming a teacher because there will be times when all of my beliefs may be questioned and/or tested by either myself or others. One of these beliefs (and the most important thing to know) is that all children have the ability, and right to learn, no matter what. A lot of the time it is not about the student; it is how they are being taught. Yes, some students take a little more time to catch on to something than other students, but that does not make them incapable of learning at all. Teaching students by scaffolding based on information they already know will make it easier for them. For example, my little brother struggled with language when he was younger. My parents, knowing how much he loves Harry Potter movies, bought him a set of the books and the movies because he makes connections between the words in the books to pictures in the movies. This allowed him to better understand what some of these words in the books meant and the movies were able to give him examples of what these words mean. I had a similar experience when I was in high school. It was the end of the year in my college algebra class and we were learning basic trigonometry...

Phillies Case Study

...The competitive environment, also known as the market structure, is the dynamic system in which a business competes. The state of the system as a whole limits the flexibility of the business. (1) The Phillies’ “product” is marketed as entertainment, a “happening” (Kerin, Hartley & Rudelius, p.313, 2012) that highlights the positive aspects of Phillies baseball. This includes the key elements of the new Citizens Bank Park field, having a fun experience without having to spend a lot of money, having the feeling of camaraderie being surrounded by likeminded Phillies fans, like eating hot dogs and shopping for souvenirs at the Phanatic Attic, and simply having a good time. The video demonstrates the vast efforts that the Phillies marketers put into being good “community citizens”. The Phillies Phanatic mascot appears at charity, hospital and other public events. The demand for the mascot’s public appearances is so great that there are actually three Phanatics to meet the need. The “Ballgirls” are 20 female college students from various colleges who appear at schools, golf outings, local charity softball games, and at the Citizens Bank Park field. “They act as ambassadors for the Phillies both on and off the field. The Phillies Ballgirls represent educated, athletic women who hope to serve as role models in professional sports for young girls” (3). The Phillies also have “The Green Team” to promote their concern about sustainability and the environment. The Ballgirls...

Ladies Abd Gentlemen

...Strayer University Dr. Hunsucker HUM111 November 24, 2014 Many students set goals with the hope that their achievements may help them be accepted into their chosen college. Unfortunately, they often put too much emphasis on one area and do not take part in a wide range of activities. Bewildered college applicants often say, "I've had a perfect average since I started junior high. How could they reject me?" What they do not realize is that schools are interested in more than just intellectual achievements. Others find themselves saying, "I am the best baseball player in my school. Why did I get rejected?" This also proves that college acceptance is not based on an athletic single area of activity, whether academic, musical, or Statement of Purpose. (Allen 1996) I firmly believe that it is important to be well-rounded, taking part in both challenging and interesting activities instead of just focusing on athletics or academics. I understand that proving oneself to be an outstanding athlete requires much skill development and hours of practice, and this is true for demonstrating intellectual ability, too. But a truly capable person balances many activities. Taking part in school, athletics, music, community service, extra-curricular activities, academic clubs, social clubs, hobbies and spending time with friends and family are the qualities that describe a truly well-rounded person. Sometimes students' ideas about the future, however, are constantly changing. Some, last...

How Honor Roll Changed My Life

...Throughout my childhood, I took life way too easy. I never really found school to be much important in life when compared to the football or baseball games that came on TV. Yet, I still worked really hard, finishing my homework each night, but I never really found true success, like getting all A’s in a school year. I was always jealous of my younger brother who never got below a 100% on anything that he did. He finished second in a law day contest in the state, and achieved high success (perfect scores) on the NJ ASK. On the other hand, I was really lazy. I got honor roll sometimes, but this wasn’t good enough. A lot of cousins didn’t really think I was going to succeed academically in life. I always thought to myself, I’m going to get that high honor roll next year, but sadly I kept on being hesitant, procrastinated all the time, and got even more sad....

Why Mascots Should Be Allowed In Schools

...what seems like eons of time. Deciding on the perfect mascot can take forever; since there are so many things to consider! Mount Morris, Michigan, like so many other schools, went through a selection process to choose their mascot. A great choice was made when they nominated a panther to symbolize the schools.     The panther is supported excessively by the entire Mount Morris community. At football, basketball, baseball games, tennis matches, volleyball tournaments; you name it, they’re always there. Students, parents, and faculty members show up loud and proud, supporting the Panthers. At homecoming, townspeople arrive with a distorted appearance, blue and white paint on their face as if it were a canvas. Even if your mascot is an offensive representative, community support shows that it isn’t that terrible after all. Look at the Hoboes of Laurel Hills, Florida. Most people find the word ‘hobo’ demeaning because it’s a derogatory term for migrant workers; yet, they have an annual Hobo celebration to show how much pride they...
