Cosmetology
Cosmetology isn’t just a job to me, it’s a special job that not just anyone can do. Many people believe it’s just about doing hair and painting nails but it’s definitely not. Not everyone can do this job, it’s hard at times and very stressful but that’s what is most worth it in my personal opinion. You can make someone feel great about themselves by just using nail polish or scissors. Cosmetology has been around for ages, since the Greek and Roman times. They used to prize their baths, which were like today’s spa treatments. The Greco-Roma bathhouse plays an important role in the history of Cosmetology. Not only has the impact of the study changed, but, it’s trends and fashions have changed drastically over the years and even …show more content…
Now, with that being said that also varies with how much you work and if you are a full time or part time stylist. As you get more clients and work longer hours, you will typically get $2 raises or more, depending on the value of the work. “The truth is, Cosmetologist must be willing to look at the positives and negatives of the job. It often attracts people with its glamour but also discourages many with its hard work and relatively low earnings.” (Ebscohost) According to RileyGuide.com Oklahoma’s typical salary per year is around 21,000. They also state though, that it can range anywhere from 16K to 40K. How much money you get also depends on if the salon you work at, accepts tips. If they do and you please your clients enough, they may give you tips which is a really good thing because not only do you get extra money but you could get a potential client who recommends you to other people they know, which in return could get you more clients and money. I also don’t think people realize this but you have a lot of materials needed for this profession. Which does include hair color tools, different variety of scissors for different styles and hair. A lot of money goes into this business just as much as it does your pocket. A fun fact that I bet tons of people wouldn’t know is that, Cosmetologist actually believe if you drop a comb on the floor, you have to throw it away and buy a new one. It’s something …show more content…
Of course, take away the cameras in your face and made up drama for views and it’s pretty realistic to the real deal. Most salons don’t accept walk in appointments, so for the most part the only real chaos you’ll ever have is trying to make booth rent and fighting over clients, which I know sounds ridiculous but trust me, it happens. I’ve seen it personally first hand. The normal work hours for most Cosmetologist are 9 to 5, 40 hours a week work schedule. Which can sound intimidating, especially after knowing about how much they stand on their feet but it’s a pretty normal thing after awhile. The easiest part of any Cosmetologist day would be when there isn’t as many people in the saloon. Just enough, that you still have busy and you aren’t dying of boredom but you don’t have so many that everyone is doubled up. On the flip side, the challenging part will be when people, typically on lunch breaks or after school, come in. That’s when Cosmetologist are usually the

In addition to receiving my full cosmetology licence, I aim to own a salon and possibly open a privately owned cosmetology college. Cosmetology has been my ambition for as long as I can possibly remember. I have always loved makeup, hair, and nails. By the time I could walk, I was applying any makeup I could find. If I got my hands on it, I usually smeared it all over my face ;nevertheless, I still felt beautiful the entire time. When I was a little older, I spent most of my free time attempting to style the three Barbie mannequins I had received over numerous holidays. My love of makeup and hair was a stage that I never grew out of. I started out at EPCOT taking cosmetology classes my sophomore year in Hollywood, Alabama, then I had to move about sixty miles to Sand Rock, Alabama. ...Watson 1 ENG 11129L 9/29/10 Essay #2 Final Draft Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder “Cosmetologists are often the initiators of style and change,” Brooke Seger, a cosmetologist from Indianapolis, Indiana, stated. Style and change is very much related to cosmetology because cosmetology is all about looks. Just to get an outlook on this occupation, a lot of important information includes salary potential, working hours, availability of positions, job duties, and required training and education. All of which are important aspects to carefully look over when deciding if cosmetology is the right career for you. The Occupational Outlook Handbook [OOH] reports, “Median hourly wages in May 2008 for hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists, including tips and commission, were $11.13. Median hourly wages in May 2008 for barbers, including tips, were $11.56. Among skin care specialists, median hourly wages, including tips, were $13.81. Manicurists and pedicurists earned $9.46, and shampooers earned $8.32 (Bureau of Labor Statistics 3-4).” This seems fairly the same, since this was reported in 2008, as this year, 2010. According to today’s cosmetologists, the salary depends on the workplace, although these wages seem very similar to any normal cosmetologist. From my outlook, I think the hours are very flexible and random. I walk in to get a pedicure and I get in within 15 minutes. When I get my haircut, I usually call my hairstylist and state and time within a...
