ARTICLE REVIEW FORM Social and Ethical Issues in Business and Economics Name: Date: 02/15/12 Article Review Number: 1 Title and correct reference of the article Money and the Meaning of Life http://www.businessweek.com/managing/content/may2011/ca20110517_527245.htm 1. Briefly state the ethical issue(s) you see in the article: This article talks about how there is another unethical scandal every other week in the U.S. People with so much money still have greed and don’t know when to stop. Why are such brilliant people with so much money losing everything that money CAN’T buy?

2. List three reasons why this is an ethical issue: A. Money is the root of all evil. (Stated in class, and also in this article) i. Money drives smart people to do very unethical things for selfish reasons. ii. Money has the power to pull people together or to tear them apart.

B. This greed is causing others to suffer tremendously. iii. The subprime mortgage fiasco was an exercise in collective greed that came pretty close to destroying the world as we know it and it affected everyone around us. C. Having money does not necessarily make you rich. It is distinguishing between these two things with will lead you into making an unethical decision or the right decision.

3. Briefly explain why you selected the article and how it enhances your understanding of identifying ethical issues in the workplace. I selected this article among the others because I saw a lot of relevance in what we have been talking about in class. Also, I noticed that this article had a lot of up-to-date information on recent unethical findings. It amazes me at how people can be so wrong and hurt so many people by being so selfish. Money can’t buy happiness, only nice things.

Should There Be Specific Anti Gay Bullying Policies in Schools

...Should There Be Specific Anti-Gay Bully Polices in Schools First let’s be clear about definitions concerning this essay. Bully: One who is habitually cruel to smaller or weaker people (The American Heritage Dictionary 2007). An aggressive person who intimidates or mistreats weaker people, (Encarta dictionary, 2012). Bullying: The process of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in a more vulnerable situation (Encarta dictionary, 2012). Bullying for this paper: Any act of harassment, intimidation, whether physical, verbal or telecommunicated (cyber/text) that makes a person feel demeaned, belittled, fearful, or endangered. Since doing this research I find that each article defines bullying in a different way. I believe that we need to have a definitive explanation of what we consider bullying on the whole. Although every definition centers on the idea that someone is being mistreated in some way by another person. Why is it surprising that we have children lashing out to the children that have bullied them today when this is what Americans have done since this country began? The Europeans came to this country and started to take over the land. The Native Americans very rarely killed one another, they simply counted coup. As the Europeans continued to move away from the east coast they decided that the way the Native Americans were living was barbaric and they needed to be civilized and Christianized. When the Native Americans refused to conform, the...

Logical evaluation of the article's main theme, supporting arguments and implications for further research is an important element of a review. Here are a few guidelines for writing an article review. Steps Sample Article Reviews Sample Newspaper Article Review Sample Research Article Review Writing Your Own Review 1 Read the article several times. Begin by looking quickly at the opening statements, headings and opening sentences of each paragraph and the conclusion. Then go back to the beginning and read the article in its entirety. Reading the article a third time with a highlighter or pen in hand allows for making notes or highlighting important sections. 2 Create a summary outline. This is an outline of the main points made in the article and the supporting research or arguments. It is strictly a restatement of the main points of the article and does not include your opinions.
