...LITERARY ANALYSIS OF “JEALOUS HUSBAND RETURNS IN FORM OF PARROT” Jessica Cunningham Galen College of Nursing Literary Analysis of “Jealous Husband Returns in form of Parrot” The title of this short story, “Jealous Husband Returns in form of Parrot”, is a direct reflection of the story itself. Written by author Robert Olen Butler in 1995 this short story is told from the view point of a parrot reincarnation of a jealous husband who falls to his death while trying to catch his allegedly unfaithful wife in the act. In human form the husband is wildly jealous, emotional, and irrational and fails to communicate with his wife about her suspicious behavior. Butler uses point of view, character transformation, and symbolism to show how the husband’s hasty actions, internalization of emotion, and poor handling of his wife’s cheating perpetuates and then dissipates in his current aviary state. The first and most profound literary element used in this short story is point of view. This story is told from a first person limited omniscient point of view. Although the speaker has two physical forms in this story, he has only one conscience as he narrates through his peculiar situation. A first person limited omniscient point of view allows the reader to experience the husband’s jealousy as he fells and thinks it. ...PARROT Parrots, also known as psittacines /ˈsɪtəsaɪnz/, are birds of the roughly 372 species in 86 genera that make up the order Psittaciformes, found in most tropical and subtropicalregions. ...Magic realist elements in ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ by G.G. Marquez. Paradoxically enough, a reception of a book starts even before it is taken to reader’s hands and opened. When one only hears the name of the author or the title of the novel, some associations appear almost automatically. These associations can later on influence the reader’s impressions or even – to some degree – the analysis of a chosen literary work. Thus, when the name of Marquez is evoked, the very first thing to come to one’s mind is probably ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ and – for some readers – the term of ‘magic realism’. Every other Marquez’s work must ‘take into an account’ such inevitable context. Then, the title also determines reader’s expectations. In the case of ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ – the subject of this essay – all enormous tradition of love literature passes in the background, due to the novel’s title. To what degree these associations help in the understanding of Marquez’s famous book it is to be discovered. To begin with, obviously not all of the Colombian writer’s works have been created in the magic realist mode. In ‘In Evil Hour’ (1961) or ‘The General in His Labyrinth” (1989) there are hardly any magic realist elements. The main idea is that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor. A peacock chooses a mate using sexual selection, the female choses a male for the quantity, size, and distribution of his colorful eyespots, because the offspring of these males are bigger at birth and better at surviving in the wild. These birds are peafowls, the males are peacocks, and the females are peahens. The male peacock, shows off his bright colored train to attract a female, the more impressive his tail is the better his chances are of finding a mate. Their tail feathers (coverts) are as long as the bird’s body length and with markings that look like eyes of red, gold, blue, and other hues. Their tail is used in courtship displays where they spread their tail and show it off to the females, and mating when arched out into a magnificent fan it reaches across the bird's back down to the ground on both sides. Peahens choose mates by their physical prowess and the vivid color of his tail, which lets the female know that he has high-quality genes, making him perfect for reproduction and the survival of the offspring, so when it's time to mate, these are the first ones selected. The promotional poster in this report has been developed for the physical activity health area, with a segmented target audience of women aged 40 to 60 years. The poster aims to communicate and reinforce the benefits of physical fitness. Whilst evaluating the poster approach to health communication, other forms of health communication, and their effectiveness, are also discussed. The Wanless report (2004) described the “Fully Engaged Scenario” whereby unless there is substantial support of the public in pursuit of their health and well-being, the cost of treatment of chronic conditions by the National Health Service will become untenable. Current Welsh Government policy promotes physical activity in line with the report of the 2004 White paper. The recommended level of physical activity should be 30 minutes of moderate activity on at least 5 or more days per week.
