...LITERARY ANALYSIS OF “JEALOUS HUSBAND RETURNS IN FORM OF PARROT” Jessica Cunningham Galen College of Nursing Literary Analysis of “Jealous Husband Returns in form of Parrot” The title of this short story, “Jealous Husband Returns in form of Parrot”, is a direct reflection of the story itself. Written by author Robert Olen Butler in 1995 this short story is told from the view point of a parrot reincarnation of a jealous husband who falls to his death while trying to catch his allegedly unfaithful wife in the act. In human form the husband is wildly jealous, emotional, and irrational and fails to communicate with his wife about her suspicious behavior. Butler uses point of view, character transformation, and symbolism to show how the husband’s hasty actions, internalization of emotion, and poor handling of his wife’s cheating perpetuates and then dissipates in his current aviary state. The first and most profound literary element used in this short story is point of view. This story is told from a first person limited omniscient point of view. Although the speaker has two physical forms in this story, he has only one conscience as he narrates through his peculiar situation. A first person limited omniscient point of view allows the reader to experience the husband’s jealousy as he fells and thinks it. There are no comments or judgments made from any outside perspective, which reflects a jealous person and the inability to accept outside criticism or advice. The...

...PARROT Parrots, also known as psittacines /ˈsɪtəsaɪnz/, are birds of the roughly 372 species in 86 genera that make up the order Psittaciformes, found in most tropical and subtropicalregions. The order is subdivided into three superfamilies: the Psittacoidea ('true' parrots), theCacatuoidea (cockatoos) and the Strigopoidea (New Zealand parrots). Parrots have a generally pantropical distribution with several species inhabiting temperate regions in theSouthern Hemisphere as well. The greatest diversity of parrots is found in South America andAustralasia. Characteristic features of parrots include a strong, curved bill, an upright stance, strong legs, and clawed zygodactyl feet. Many parrots are vividly coloured, and some are multi-coloured. The plumage of cockatoos ranges from mostly white to mostly black, with a mobile crest of feathers on the tops of their heads. Most parrots exhibit little or no sexual dimorphism. They form the most variably sized bird order in terms of length. The most important components of most parrots' diets are seeds, nuts, fruit, buds and other plant material. A few species sometimes eat animals and carrion, while the lories and lorikeetsare specialised for feeding on floral nectar and soft fruits. Almost all parrots nest in tree hollows(or nest boxes in captivity), and lay white eggs from which hatch altricial (helpless) young. Parrots, along with ravens, crows, jays and magpies, are among the most intelligent birds, and the ability of some species...

...Magic realist elements in ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ by G.G. Marquez. Paradoxically enough, a reception of a book starts even before it is taken to reader’s hands and opened. When one only hears the name of the author or the title of the novel, some associations appear almost automatically. These associations can later on influence the reader’s impressions or even – to some degree – the analysis of a chosen literary work. Thus, when the name of Marquez is evoked, the very first thing to come to one’s mind is probably ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ and – for some readers – the term of ‘magic realism’. Every other Marquez’s work must ‘take into an account’ such inevitable context. Then, the title also determines reader’s expectations. In the case of ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ – the subject of this essay – all enormous tradition of love literature passes in the background, due to the novel’s title. To what degree these associations help in the understanding of Marquez’s famous book it is to be discovered. To begin with, obviously not all of the Colombian writer’s works have been created in the magic realist mode. In ‘In Evil Hour’ (1961) or ‘The General in His Labyrinth” (1989) there are hardly any magic realist elements. On the other hand, ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ still functions as the main and most eminent example of magic realism in the world literature, and the one best recognised by an average reader, too. As to ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’, it seems...

...discussed is Edna Pontellier. She is married to Leonce Pontellier and they have two children together, Etienne and Raoul. The story behind Edna is her desire and struggles to be an independent woman and live fully within her true self. She has struggles learning this about herself and the purpose of a happy life that in turn it causes friction with her friends and family. There are many symbols and perspectives in the story that will help decide whether or not Edna did the right thing in the end. Although Edna's ultimate suicide is a waste of her struggles against an oppressive society, The Awakening supports and encourages feminism as a way for women to obtain sexual freedom, financial independence, and individual identity. A critical analysis consists of choosing a certain lens that would point out certain characteristics of a book and summarize the findings. From the weekly reading “When you analyze a piece of literature or portion of it, it is important to look at various parts of the work—characters, setting, figurative language, and symbolism” (South University, Lecture, wk.2). There are three perspectives that were included in The Awakening, Feminist, Psychoanalytical and Historical. While writing this paper from a feminist perspective there will also be comparisons from the other two. As Sigmund Freud stated “the mind has two parts, the conscious and subconscious. The influence on the subconscious are the text's plot, setting, conflict, symbols point of view and character...

...The theory of evolution is the change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift. The main idea is that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor. A peacock chooses a mate using sexual selection, the female choses a male for the quantity, size, and distribution of his colorful eyespots, because the offspring of these males are bigger at birth and better at surviving in the wild. These birds are peafowls, the males are peacocks, and the females are peahens. The male peacock, shows off his bright colored train to attract a female, the more impressive his tail is the better his chances are of finding a mate. Their tail feathers (coverts) are as long as the bird’s body length and with markings that look like eyes of red, gold, blue, and other hues. Their tail is used in courtship displays where they spread their tail and show it off to the females, and mating when arched out into a magnificent fan it reaches across the bird's back down to the ground on both sides. Peahens choose mates by their physical prowess and the vivid color of his tail, which lets the female know that he has high-quality genes, making him perfect for reproduction and the survival of the offspring, so when it's time to mate, these are the first ones selected. Since all males do not have bright, large tails, especially a few thousand years ago, they were less likely to mate and reproduce, so their numbers were reduced from one generation...

...Communication in the Health Care Context The World Health Organizations’ first International Congress for health promotion produced the Ottawa charter (1986) and stated health promotion as being “the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health”. The promotional poster in this report has been developed for the physical activity health area, with a segmented target audience of women aged 40 to 60 years. The poster aims to communicate and reinforce the benefits of physical fitness. Whilst evaluating the poster approach to health communication, other forms of health communication, and their effectiveness, are also discussed. The Wanless report (2004) described the “Fully Engaged Scenario” whereby unless there is substantial support of the public in pursuit of their health and well-being, the cost of treatment of chronic conditions by the National Health Service will become untenable. Current Welsh Government policy promotes physical activity in line with the report of the 2004 White paper. The recommended level of physical activity should be 30 minutes of moderate activity on at least 5 or more days per week. Research conducted by Sport Wales (2012), in their “state of the nation” paper, indicate that by age 45, only 36% of women are physically active and continue to be 14 percentage points lower than men until after age 65. Therefore, based on a needs assessment developed from the respective reports, the promotional poster for this assignment...

...Many times this part suffered a lot of identity changes, in 1801 France took it, in 1808 regained by the Spain and in 1822 it was annexed by Haiti. Haiti domination and rule was not a calm and good period for the Dominican people, so that the relationship between the two countries remained at least hostile and tensed. Dominican people struggled a lot to obtain the independence in 1844, however after a period with national constitution and government, Spain conquered it once more turning it into a colony of itself in 1861.The Dominicans regrouped their forces and four years later the independence war declared the Republic independent in 1865( Country...

...IoT (Hiremath, 2015) IoT stands for Internet of things which in itself explains that it is things that are connected to internet which include sensors, devices, actuators, transducers any equipment or material thing (further referred as THINGS ) which in some way are able to communicate via internet. There has been some kind of automation in industry, home, and office through various THINGS but IoT is a concept where in all these THINGS are connected to internet and communicate via internet and can be intervened or controlled through internet. They also intern generate data and can be stored on cloud for further processing or the data required for control mechanism of these THINGS may exist on cloud itself. The crux of such exercise is to achieve improved efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy and economic benefit. I chose not to tell you the whole story but few specific examples of IoT which will bring us on same page of thoughts and make us easily understand in future anything we come across which is related to IoT. Smart Home: Smart home widely working on ZigBee protocol (considered as most secured and safe till now) is basically automation of lights, AC, door lock, Curtains etc.. In home and also able to communicate via internet through a gateway to any smart device connected to internet like smart phone and be accessible to any authorised user so as to monitor or control home appliances sitting globally anywhere using a smart home specific application. For example a Chinese...

...Christopher Columbus: The Original American Hero? Was Columbus a hero or a villain? Maybe it’s neither. Columbus was brave and daring, and did things that were important to world history. But he wasn’t heroic in the sense of displaying great moral qualities. Courage, while generally a good character trait, isn’t necessarily heroic or even highly honorable and praiseworthy unless it’s deployed in certain kinds of actions or causes. But he also wasn’t especially villainous in the sense of displaying particular evil qualities. His arrival in the Americas caused a great deal of death to American Indians, chiefly from disease. And it caused the subjugation and literal or virtual enslavement of the Indians. But this didn’t stem from Columbus’s being an unusually evil person. It stemmed from the brutality of the time, coupled with the contact between one culture that was much more powerful than another (and that carried many communicable diseases to which members of the other culture lacked resistance). I’m inclined to say that we shouldn’t celebrate Columbus Day, precisely because such national celebrations should be focused on honoring people who did things that were both especially important and especially honorable (such as veterans, President Washington, or Martin Luther King, Jr.) and not just on people who did things that were especially important. This might conceivably include not-necessarily-good people who did things that were unambiguously good. But European expansion...

...This film, written and directed by Noah Baumback, takes place in Park Slope Brooklyn 1986. Some critics claim that the film reflects the writer’s personal experience of his parents divorce. Both were involved in the literary field. The film was cited as a letter of hate towards the writer’s own father. While the film is ostensibly about a divorce and a family in crisis it is in principal a sensitive coming of age story primarily from the perspective of a 16-year-old adolescent. It is also a fascinating portrayal of the obstacles that a parent with narcissistic features can present in the child’s struggle for independence. The Squid and the Whale is about divisions, about clashing forces; the mother and father, the child and parent, the intellectual and the philistine, the appearance of things and their true nature. Underlying each of these conflicts and every scene in the film is the battle between cynical detachment and vulnerability. The opening lines “Me and Mom vs. You and Dad sets the stage for an excessively competitive doubles tennis. Younger son Frank sides with Mom where older brother Walter proudly joins the father who gives some questionable advice regarding her backstroke. Competitive games are repeated throughout the film’ boxing, ping-pong. The fiercest competition is the literary competition to publish that both parents are engaged in. In this area the father condescendingly tries to give advise for his wife to improve her writing. Characters ...
