Ethic Violation while in Congress Congressman Charles B. Rangel serves the New York’s 13th district. He was the first African American member of Congress. Rangel volunteered to serve in the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star after being attacked by Chinese communist troops he was able to lead his surviving comrades to safety. He is truly a dedicated war hero. Rangel a democrat from New York was found to have strayed beyond the ethical boundary. The U.S. representative was charged with thirteen violations of unethical behavior and federal regulations. (http://www.politico.com)He was accused of improperly soliciting money from lobbyists to donate millions of dollars to a New York College that displayed his name. On disclosure forms he failed to disclose income and assets that were hundreds of thousands of dollars. He also elected not to pay taxes on rental property that he owned in the Dominican Republic. Some of his other violations were violating the house gift rules policy to sending solicitation letters to large corporations for money by using official letterhead from Capitol Hill. Rangel’s fate came with a vote of 333 to 79 the House voted for his censure. Per our text book censure may include condemnation, a loss of seniority and fines. Rangel chose not to adhere to the proper rules of conduct and therefore I believe that the punishment suited the crime. I a fellow American have to legally abide by employers ethic standards as well and so should Rangel no matter what position he holds.

Because third parties never win voters are less likely to vote for a third party feeling that it is a waste of a vote. According to historian Michael Beschloss third parties often organize themselves around a single personality or a single issue. (pbs.org) by only being focused on an individual issue this can lead to less popularity. Third party candidates normally receive less media attention and lack funding for their presidential campaign.
