Creatine phosphate energy system-
Adenosine triphosphate and creatine phosphate make up the ATP-CP energy system.
ATP
Adenosine triphosphate is made of one adenosine molecule and three phosphate molecules. Energy is stored in the chemical bonds in the molecules and when this is broken down energy is then released. In this process one of the phosphate atoms is no longer in the chemical bond. This forms adenosine diphosphate which is made of one adenosine molecule and two phosphate molecules. When ATP is broken down it gives energy for a muscle contraction too occur; it is the only molecule that can do this. This all happens in the muscle cells.

I believe that this system is most towards events such as Shot putt, javelin and weight lifting this is because it doesn’t supply energy for long at all at a high intensity. It will supply energy for a maximum of 10 seconds this is due to the limited source of creatine phosphate. Another reason it would be suited to these sports is because it recovers reasonably quickly and it these sports you have 3 attempts so by the time of your next attempt it will be recovered and ready to go again.
Although its suited to these sports it is used in other sports such as football or rugby, it may be used for a quick sprint to the ball or jumping for a header and even kicking the ball its not suited towards these sports as it would be used frequently and the system may not be recovered in time to release more energy.

Lactic Acid energy system
This energy system comes into use after the ATP-CP system has burnt out. This is again a short term energy system and meets the requirements of high intensity over a longer period then the ATP system. Examples of this could be the a triathlon, which involves a run, swim and cycle. This system is used for the because it’s capable of re-making a large amount of ATP from a small amount of glycogen. One mole of glycogen can make between 36-38 moles of ATP and it can make even more from fat. This system is made for these types of sports because it provides energy at a slower rate compared to the other systems this is due to the wait got oxygen being supplied from the lungs, due to this it cannot provide ATP if working at a higher intensity.
Another factor making this system suited for such events is that there are no harmful waste products, such poisons such as lactic acid are not created via this system because oxygen is present to break it down, this will allow the muscles to work in normal conditions for a longer period of time but eventually the muscles will fatigue causing us to slow the work rate down or even stop.
One limiting factor to this system has to allow a large recovery time because the body needs to get its glycogen stores back up in the muscles by eating or drinking carbohydrates which are in them.
