...research suggests students who are active in life of college campus, primarily through voluntary association in student activities and organizations are likely to be more philanthropic toward their alma mater than those who less involved, or not involved at all. According to Breazeale, institutional commitment created from student social involvement continues after graduation. Breazeale also stated that the student should [1]: i. The first is the need to develop instruments that will facilitate large response rates (Delaney, 1994; Underwood, Nault, & Ferguson, 1994). The second is locating current contact information for alumni when a complete database has not been developed. In fact, models for developing an alumni community are needed to assist with the process of contacting alumni and gaining important feedback to be used in current programs (Davidson-Shivers...

...Unlike traditional universities, WGU does not award degrees based on credit hours or on a certain set of required courses. Instead, you will earn your degree by demonstrating your skills, knowledge, and understanding of important concepts through a series of carefully designed courses. Progress through your degree program is governed not by classes but by satisfactory completion of the required courses that demonstrate your mastery of the competencies. Of course, you will need to engage in learning experiences as you brush up on competencies or develop knowledge and skills in areas in which you may be weak. For this learning and development, WGU has a rich array of learning resources in which you may engage under the direction of your student mentor. You will work closely with your mentor to schedule your program for completing the courses. You will also work closely with additional faculty members as you proceed through courses of study that are designed to lead you through the content you must master in order to pass the assessment(s) for each course. The benefit of this competency-based system is that it makes it possible for people who are knowledgeable about a particular subject to make accelerated progress toward completing a WGU degree, even if they lack college experience. You may have gained skills and knowledge of a subject while on the job,...

...seen as second choice. According to World Bank, in 2012 where high-income OECD countries faced 5.7 percent unemployment rate, the unemployment rate of labor below 25 year olds was double at 18.3 percent. The difference between two indicators remains around double throughout the decade. Moreover, the problem of youth unemployment especially with high unemployment rate such as Spain where half of those below 25 year olds cannot find jobs. Since vocational student learn on skill-based curriculums, however, many argues that they will relatively harder to adapt to new change comparing to general student who learned concept-based curriculum. ...Graduate Employability and Student Attitudes and Orientations to the Labour Market Michael Tomlinson This article examines the way students, making the transition from higher education into the labour market, construct, understand and begin to manage their employability. It draws upon a qualitative study of 53 final year undergraduates in a pre-1992 university in the UK. It firstly explores students’ perceptions of the current labour market for graduates and how they understand future career progression. It examines their different orientations and attitudes to work and careers through the development of an ideal-type model. It then considers how these orientations influence the way students approach future work and careers and manage their employability, and further discusses some of the implications this has for current policies around higher education and the labour market in the UK context. Introduction This paper examines the perceptions, attitudes and orientations of higher education students to their future work, careers and employability. The employability of university graduates has dominated much educational and economic policy over the past decade (NCIHE, 1997; DfEE, 2000). Graduate employability is centrally located in the changing relationship between higher education and the labour market. The development of mass higher education has intersected with the shift towards a so-called knowledge-driven or post-industrial economy (Drucker, 1993; Amin, 1994)...

...& Horton, 2006), and determining the causes of management turnover and what could be done to increase retention (Stalcup & Pearson, 2001; Walsh & Taylor, 2007). In addition, research has been done examining graduates from specific institutions (Walsh & Taylor, 2007) as well as perceptions of current students and what they expect when they graduate (Richardson, 2009). Blomme, Van Rheede, and Tromp (2009) found differences between pre- and post-entry expectations of hospitality management graduates in the hospitality industry. However, no past research has examined differences in hospitality graduates with respect to experiences, importance, and turnover in the hospitality industry. Researchers have found many hospitality graduates either never entered the industry, or left the industry with no intent to return (Blomme et al., 2009; King, McKercher, & Waryszak, 2003; Stalcup & Pearson, 2001; Walsh & Taylor, 2007). In addition, Blomme et al. found significant differences in pre- and post-entry expectations of hospitality graduates. If hospitality graduates are entering the industry without an accurate understanding of the industry, this could be the cause of many leaving the hospitality industry. With hospitality management graduates not working in the hospitality industry, and instead working in other areas, it is important to determine where gaps exist so educators and practitioners can make a difference. A...

...study will be November 11, 2013 through November 25, 2013. Data Collection Methods The study relies on personal accounts, student observations, and voluntary surveys. Interviews will also be conducted will local business leaders in order to give a secondary view on the appropriate school and gain an understanding of how they view the MBA program for a professional standpoint. In addition to conducting the personal accounts mentioned above the study will also incorporate research using the library, and internet (only professional and academic sources) to analyzing trends and patterns to try to determine which MBA programs will be more widely accepted in the business community. Also which students surveyed report they are the happiest, state, private, or for profit. We also intend to narrow the decision making process for students when they are considering an MBA. Research Questions The study looks at the overall organizational structure at each MBA program. Evaluate the mission statement of the organizations to determine if the respective organization is living up to their promises. We will look at how the three different programs differ, how they are alike, and provide support examples of some of the varying classes. We will then compare the statement with the product delivered to the students. We will conduct surveys asking what former and current students looked for in a school, how they made their decision, and other relevant information to the study In addition, the study...

...scores of Filipino students. One reason is that students do not get adequate instructional time or time on task.” 3. International test results consistently show Filipino students lagging way behind practically everybody else in the world. In the 2008 mathematics exam, for example, we came in dead last. 4. “The congested curriculum partly explains the present state of education.” Twelve years of content are crammed into ten years. 5. “This quality of education is reflected in the inadequate preparation of high school graduates for the world of work or entrepreneurship or higher education.” If ten years were adequate, how come employers do not hire fresh high school graduates? How come most high school graduates flunk the UPCAT? 6. “Most graduates are too young to enter the labor force.” Since most children start Grade 1 when they are 6 years old, they do not reach the legal employable age of 18 when they graduate from high school today. 7. “The current system also reinforces the misperception that basic education is just a preparatory step for higher education.” Why prioritize the minority of high school graduates that go to college? 8. “The short duration of the basic education program also puts the millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), especially the professionals, and those who intend to study abroad, at a disadvantage. Our graduates are not automatically recognized as professionals abroad.” The best examples are our engineering graduates, who are condemned to...

...community. While this may be true, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competitive among other countries. Starting this coming school year 2012- 2013,the current education system of the Philippines will be enhanced from the 10- years of basic education into 12- years through the program called the K-12 Education Plan of the Department of Education. The implementation of the K- 12 education plan in the Philippine Basic Education Curriculum is the key to our nation’s development. Though the government will face many problems in the long run of the implementation of the program, there really is a need to implement it because the enhancement of the quality of our education is very urgent and critical. Here are some of the good reasons not to disagree with K- 12 education plan in the Philippines according to Isagani Cruz (2010) in one of his columns in a local newspaper: Sufficient Instructional Time If K- 12 will be implemented, students will be able to get sufficient instructional time to do subject- related tasks which makes them more prepared and well- trained on that subject area. On the other hand, if we remain on the old system, Filipino students would continually get low achievement scores. For instance, international test results revealed that we often come at the tail end in the exams compared to other countries. More Skilled and Competent Labor Force Another good reason why we should support K- 12 is that the graduates of this program will be more prepared...

...UF defines full time as an undergraduate student enrolled for 12 or more credit hours during a semester in the academic year. In 2009-2010, the average academic load of full time undergraduates was 14.1 credits at UF. In order to graduate from a standard 120 credit hour degree program in eight semesters, a student needs to complete an average of 15 credits per semester. This is considered a standard academic load as recognized by the President’s Honor Roll and represents 4-5 courses per semester. Beginning in the Fall 2012 semester, full time undergraduate students enrolled in statefunded academic programs will be billed for tuition and fees at the rate of 15 credits for Fall and Spring Semester. The fees included in the Block Tuition are the Student Financial Aid fee, Capital Improvement Trust Fund fee, Building fee, Health fee, Athletic fee, Activity and Service fee, Transportation Access fee, and Technology fee. In addition, non-residents are charged the following: Non-Resident Student Financial Aid Fee. Other fees that may apply to individual courses will be billed to the student on either a per-credit-hour basis or per-course basis, as is our current practice, such as Materials and Supplies fees (per-course), Distance Education fees (per-credit-hour), and Equipment Use fees (per-credit-hour). Benefits of Block Tuition: Block Tuition will serve as an incentive to raise the academic load of undergraduates from the current average of 14.1 credits, thereby improving...

...Outline Title: Student loan Debt Crisis Speaker: Markevia Lee Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience of their choice of taking out student loans. Thesis Statement: College is not something to put off until after you have graduated, students need to find ways to pay for college before they graduate. I. Introduction: Attention-getter: The increasing trend of college students graduating with significant more student loan debt than job prospects is both alarming and detrimental to the future growth of the nation. The more tuition rises, the more students need to take out loans. This problem is both current and urgent and must be acted upon now.
