Drinking the Price of Coffee Coffee is a hot commodity and has been for centuries. Brazil has the biggest suppliers when it comes to coffee bean harvesting. With the world depending on the Brazilian farmers to bring them the caffeine they so desire to have the demand for the Arabica Bean on the rise. Farmer are forced to produce more to meet the demand of the world consumers. The production was going good till the weather began pouring down drowning the crops slowing the growth of the bean production from cross pollinating. Following a drought that would last for years. Forcing the farmer of the plantation to raise the price of coffee per lbs/kg to cover the cost of what they lost in the drought. Making the roasting companies to pay more for less. In the mist of the economic recession, stood on top of the coffee consumption list for the roasted coffee bean, the Starbuck Empire. The coffee guru used the coffee bean price to produce gourmet coffee at a higher price to make up for the cost of supply. Expanding in every major city to every corner to make up for the high demands of consumers everywhere. You couldn’t go but a few blocks on a business street and see the coffee shop again and again. With the recession of 2008 hitting the U.S. with high prices in food and fuel. It began make the $4 cup of joe less desirable when the price of fuel was the same. American consumption came to a halt forcing the company to close over 600 stores nationwide. Also laying off workers and moving a few to nearby stores. But in 2011 the coffee guru bounced back with a new line of coffees and selling to grocery chains. It was able to open 1500 stores across the country and succeeding in coffee industry back on top.
