Now a day the new media such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace are a great impact in our agenda setting process in our current general public. This is a new tool brought by our 21st century generation to expand ways to communicate through society. These media networks at the moment dominate over a million active users all over the world it delivers both positive and negative consequences for the systemic and institutional agenda as mentioned in this week’s discussion question. Throughout our nation we can combine the media network with the agenda setting process. The mass media has evolved to create a current social media that takes part of a complex role in how the public understand and responds to news. Social media such as Facebook has an impact. A lot of people use it as their own person platform and rely on it as heavily as method for news and information. It has forced companies to begin using Facebook to advertise and to disseminate information that I believe to say it doesn't have an effect would be completely false. I t can compete toe to toe with the mass media if not even have slight advantage. With the Internet being so accessible even if you don't have Internet in your home you can access it via your mobile devices I believe it gives social media the advantage or mass media in that it is much easier to push out messages via social media. It plays major role but I don't think it will be only factor in the agenda setting process. There is still a large population of the world that may not rely on social media exclusively, but rather they use it as a form to supplement their information acquisition. The issue attention cycle can be applied to the new social media it would definitely be used to create attention for it and a good way to inform the public but I don't think it should be only method. It should be used to create awareness but not be the sole source.

Mass Media Communication

...The education of our children has always been emotive and when the mass media is added to the mix, volatility is inevitable. Hardly a country in the world is spared controversy in education, but when one looks behind the sometimes anarchic scenes, there is a lot about which to be optimistic and hopeful. Traditionally, the mass media and education have enjoyed a love-hate relationship. On one hand television and newspapers particularly, have provided extensive and extremely useful education content. On the other, however, their newsrooms never seem to hesitate when controversy rears is ugly head. In theory, it is absolutely vital for the mass media to keep an eye on the way in which governments administer and develop education, but it has to be said that in this day and age of a battle for survival within the mass media industry, the watchdog does tend to become somewhat rabid at times. Like most businesses the mass media often takes a line of least resistance when problems occur and a first step always seems to blame the trades union movements. In South Africa the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) inevitably faces tremendous criticism from the mass media when its members protest the enormous challenges and deprivations they face in the classrooms. Many of those challenges having very little to do with actual teaching. Regrettably, the relationship between the mass media and education involves a lot of indulgence in blame-games and reaction by...

End of Mass Communication

...1990s the world’s networked population has grown from the low millions to the low billions. Over the same period, social media has become a fact of life for civil society worldwide. Regular citizens, companies, activists, NGO’s, software providers and last but not least government and politics use social media as a new form of communication (Foreignaffairs, 2011). One of the most famous politicians who started to use the power of social media in his political campaigns was Barack Obama. The key differenc of Obama’s campaign strategy in contrast to his competitors was that Obama used social media to communicate and organize individuals by using social media. By using technologies such as computers, cell phones, web sites and many more he reached the goal of every politicians to connect his followers, delivered them with interesting news as well as to build up a strong community. Nevertheless not only Obama tooke advantage of the undeniable power of Social Media and its technologies. Over the past years our society realized it’s power, and there might only be few companies left in the western world that are not represented on at least one Social Media Platform (Obama Buch). 7 Days Of Play Analysis

...First, “7 Days of Play” relates to the self-efficacy theory. Self-efficacy is “the extent to which the individual feels she will be successful in performing the desired behavior, given the abilities she possesses and the unique situation in which she finds herself” (Lox et al., 2010 p. 50). There are four sources of self-efficacy: past performance accomplishments, vicarious experiences, social persuasion, and the physiological and affective states (Lox et al., 2010 p. 50-52). “7 Days of Play” most relates to the third source of self-efficacy, social persuasion. Social persuasion increases self-efficacy through “verbal and non-verbal tactics” (Lox et al., 2010 p. 51, 52). The project relates to this source of self-efficacy because the Facebook posts reached out to and encouraged the community through use of verbal tactics to exercise each day. A second theory which “7 Days of Play” relates to is the theory of reasoned action which focuses on the intentions of an individual to exercise, as well as his/her attitude toward exercise (Lox et al., 2010 p. 56, 57). The project relates to this theory because as stated in The Psychology of Exercise: Integrating Theory and Practice, interventions which relate to the theory of reasoned action are designed to drive an individual toward positive attitudes regarding exercise and to place pressure on an individual to exercise (Lox et al., 2010 p. 58). “7 Days of Play” met these criteria by providing fun yet challenging activities for those...

Dynamics of Platform Competition: Exploring the Role of Installed Base, Platform Quality and Consumer Expectations

...have witnessed unprecedented growth in network industries such as video games, computers, credit cards, media, social networking and telecommunications. (Ramon and Francisco, 2009, p.1) The aim of this essay is to provide an understanding of the dynamics of platform completion by analyzing the role of installed base, consumer expectations and platform quality. These factors then help explain a platform’s position, the barriers to entry and the formation of a monopoly in the network market. This essay also focuses on the social media market for Facebook and Google+ and their rise to platform leadership, which is interesting as this is a recent and fascinating new area of research in economics. The remaining of this essay is organized into 3 sections. Section 2 explains the concept of network externalities, differentiates between direct and indirect network externalities, and explains the role of installed base and consumer expectations for products in the network market. The section then goes on to apply these concepts to platform markets to understand platform competition and how using the concept of critical mass a platform rises to dominance. Section 3 discusses some key business strategies applicable to platform markets. Section 4 concludes the analysis by extending a few strategy proposals as to how Google+ may possibly dominate in the social media market, where Facebook is currently dominant. Section 2: Products such as eBay are substantially different from ordinary...

...Harnessing The Power Of Social Media In International Relations – Analysis March 31, 2011 By ISN Insights Twitter may be just another way of sharing inane chatter, but if you have written the service off, think again. Social media has emerged as a powerful new tool in international relations, and it deserves closer attention. By Fergus Hanson for ISN Insights The wonderful and frightening thing about social media and Web 2.0 technologies is that their consequences are so unpredictable. When Jack Dorsey launched Twitter in 2006, did he envisage that the medium would end up playing a role in the attempted overthrow of the regime in Tehran? Did Mark Zuckerberg foresee Facebook being used by activists to help rally support for regime change across the Middle East when he was busy writing code in his college dorm room? The stunning and exciting role social media is beginning to play in our lives has sparked a fierce debate over the power of social media in international relations. Because the landscape is still so chaotic and uncertain, the debate has really only just begun. Fear of the new For many, the idea that anything meaningful can come out of a 140 character message (called a ‘tweet’) is preposterous. Suggesting these social, interactive media are stirring or enabling popular uprisings or even revolutions is heretic. Unsurprisingly there have been plenty of people willing to step in and ridicule any suggestion that these and other social media platforms are somehow having...

Electronic and Digital Media Industry

...Electronic and Digital Media Industry Mass communication (MC) today is reliant on technology. Based on chapter 1 of The Media of Mass Communication, MC is the technology-assisted transmission of messages to mass audiences. This definition of communication elaborates how technology seems to make life easier. Interpersonal communication is a face-to-face form of communication that has been widely used by people without technological assistance for years. In the old ages, mass media took place in concert halls using only the human voice; today people use microphones that allow them to send vocal messages to a larger audience. Print media has also taken a notch toward improvement with the help of the World Wide Web. Technology has enabled societies to broadcast messages throughout the world by using television, satellites, and the Internet. Print has had a strong impact on society. Mass media awareness started with the discovery of print media through books, newspapers, magazines, and so on. Sexualization In Australia

...Mass media is easily accessible to Australian teenagers as it is available in many forms. The most obvious mode is television but includes radio, internet, video games, movies and printed media. Australian mass media plays an important role in modern Australian society, especially in the lives of teenagers. Mass media has a detrimental effect on teenage lives for several reasons. The first being that it encourages young people to emulate behaviours of individuals that could be dangerous or illegal. Furthermore inactive television viewing contributes to the increase of childhood obesity, while violence in the media is another ever-growing factor. If this is not bad enough, our media also serves to sexualise children. These factors are reasons...

Als- Week One Concepts

...by way of mass media was through the social media web site “Facebook.” From this particular site, I was, like so many other people locally and nationwide, learned about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or as it is commonly known as, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. I saw what has become viral around the nation and world, hundreds upon hundreds of people, ranging from my family, peers, or some type of celebrity, doing what we now refer to as the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.” Although I did see the countless number of individuals getting “called out” by another individual or group and them doing the same, and thereby causing them to dump a bucket of ice on their head to raise awareness for ALS, I also saw a number of people donate to research for the ALS foundation as well. From this stemmed a wide array of information about what ALS actually is other than people dumping ice cold water on their heads. There were several major news stations either posting or reposting on the site as to the amount of money raised for the ALS foundation and these ranged from FOX News, to CNN to The Wall Street Journal and even the spoof articles of The Onion. That being said, I was able to view interviews with those who had ALS or the family members who had been affected by the condition. I could also listen to or view podcasts from radio hosts such as Dave Ramsey. Though I was viewing all of these different news and media information, I was doing so through one medium and that was the Facebook website....

New Information Technology Critical Essay

...NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES | SOCIAL MOVEMENT OF NETWORK AND SOCIAL MEDIA | Critical essay | SOYEON PARK 20122455 2012-12-05 | SOCIAL MOVEMENT OF NETWORK AND SOCIAL MEDIA Malcom Gladwell printed an article in The New Yorker, the article is entitled ‘Small Change : Why the revolution will not tweeted’. The article is giving criticism in principle about the social media disseminator’s ideas that social media such as facebook and tweeter will bring enormous changes on social activities and movements. His article provides us with amount of food for thought about what is behaviorism and social movement in the age of social media and what is relations between social media and social movements. Of course, there would be a sharp division of opinions between those who approve and disapprove. He argues that it is impossible to reform the society radically by social media such as tweeter and facebook based on weak ties. And he pointed out the limit of ordinary unimportance of weak ties. It means, in spite of extensivity and quantitative expansion of weak ties, it does not have materiality of solidarity showing in the 1960s’ a civil rights movement. And he’s opinion is that the connection of information is different with the solidarity of people. A movement, which goes along with human body, makes people blood boil and heat them up, unlike when they are absorbing information by using their brain cells. It is hard to banish the lingering and regret about that kind of...
