...Your Final Paper will be completed during Modules 14 & 15. It is a “position paper” on the place of the fine arts in the life of a believer. Your paper should be 3-4 single-spaced pages in a Word file with Times New Roman, 12 point font. Make sure to include and cite your resources consistently (6-8 scholarly sources is suggested). Wikipedia is NOT a scholarly source. Submit your Final Paper as an attachment in Moodle. How You’ll Be Graded An excellent paper (90-100%) will deal with the following subjects: 1. What art is, is not, and the part God has designed it to play in the life and spiritual experience of every person – using the course material, the Scriptures, and scholarly outside sources. 2. Why it is important for believers to understand what artists are saying, and what tools to use in order to be accurate in our understanding, before accepting or rejecting the work of art. 3. What you intend to do in your own family going forward, to ensure that your children and grandchildren will come from a family where culture is understood and valued as part of every Christian’s experience. It is highly encouraged for a Christian to be involved in the world of art, but it is important that the Christian viewer has a good understanding of art before they become too involved or make false assumptions due to a lack of understanding. For example, nudity is present in a vast amount of art that was created in the past. One who is not properly educated on art cannot...

...According to Greenpeace, by the end of the century Earth’s temperature could get so high that the climate and weather patterns would be drastically altered. It is the goal of Greenpeace, over the next three years, to close a vast majority of coal plants across the United States. With current renewable energy sources like wind and sun, most of our primary energy demand can be fulfilled. With disasters like the BP and Exxon-Valdez oil spills, marine life is become more and more scarce. The most visible signs of effects of global warming would be the western states wildfires, Midwest floods, and historic droughts in the southeast. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) aims to reduce the climate impact of burning fossil fuels by capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from power station smokestacks and disposing of it underground. However, the technology is largely unproven and will not be ready in time to save the climate. One way to help the environment would be with Carbon capture and storage however, it is largely unproven and will not be ready in time to save Earth. According to Greenpeace, renewable energy Sources like wind, solar, and geothermal can provide 96% of our electricity and 98% of our total heating demand — accounting for almost all of our primary energy demand (Stop Global Warming, 2012). Global warming has the potential to harm everything from whales to polar bears as well as deforestation. While Carbon Dioxide is a harmful greenhouse gas, it is not the most potent and is...

The exaggerated carvings of the body parts were how the artists of that time viewed women, fat and fertile. History often takes from the past to reinvent the future. Today’s society has the Barbie doll. Ruth Handler created it in 1959. Its long legs and slim figure has been worship by so many, that real women have undergone intense cosmetic surgeries to resemble the doll. Both figurines have gained notoriety based on the representation of women of their era, displayed their own meaning of beauty and cultures’ perception of it. Venus de Willendorf Venus de Willendorf, also known as the Woman of Willendorf, is a type of art statuette that was discovered sum 25,000 years ago. It was discovered in 1908 by the banks of the Danube River near the town of Willendorf in Austria during diggings led by Josef Szombathy. The statuette was carved from a rare oolitic (stone eggs) limestone using a flint tool. This particular type of stone was not available in the area it was located in, thus concluding the statuette was not created locally. Standing 4 3/8 inches (11.1 centimeters) tall, the figurine is noticeably rounded. It displays obese and voluptuous women’s body parts. It...

...I will use the following strategies to apply creativity to the problems and issues regarding the proposed pension cut in the state of California. One strategy is to look at other alternatives to the proposed cut. There is always an alternative to a thought. Suggestions of charging oil companies for drilling on public land and waiting to build a new baseball stadium have been shot down so far, but with persistence and creative thought something else can be worked out. I must stay objective and obtain information from knowledgeable sources. I must also conduct my own research in order to find new information that has been overlooked. There needs to be other alternatives to cutting the retirement packages that police officers and all other civil service workers have worked so hard for to have. I also need to think of possible solutions to the pension cut. Perhaps taking a percentage out of a different fund, the problem is deciding which funds could handle a cut. One strategy that I can use to promote curiosity while addressing the topic of the retirement benefit cuts are imagination. People do not always think creatively and by sparking imagination in them, new thoughts will begin. Once the thought process is kicked in then new ideas can be formed. Another strategy is to ask a lot of questions. Asking questions enables new ideas to be formed and new thoughts to come about. Looking beyond the obvious answers gives opportunity to come up with new decisions. Curiosity about subjects...

...HU300-01 Arts and Humanities Final Project – Time Capsule Final Project – Time Capsule Since the creation of time, man has been inventing creations to enhance and abet the living experience of human beings with hopes of making daily tasks (domestic or work) more manageable while exerting less physical effort or for safety measures. This time capsule has been written to share with future generations some of the creations that were made near the end of the 20th Century and the beginning of 21st, to afford a propitious soul with a better understanding how life was 100 years prior to what it might be when this letter can be read. As you read this, I will illustrate my personal daily tasks as they exist now, discuss current morale and decision-making, my definition of happiness, Langston Hughes’ Mother to Son, the architect – Aguas de Barcelona, Human by Brandy, the movie John Q, and the significance of airbags in automobiles. Concluding this time capsule, you will have learned more on how we lived in the late 20th and early 21st Centuries and possibly how some of our inventions may help to inspire some future inventions. Due to the recent economic crisis, America is experiencing a recession that is slow to recover. Because of the recession, the jobless rate has reached a 10.1 percent high (Chandra, 2011). I unfortunately am one of those workers whom were laid off. Therefore, I am taking this time now to focus on attending school full-time and getting a Bachelor of Science...

...Running Head: Letter to the future My Letter to the Future Susan Steichen HU300: Art and Humanities: 20th Century and Beyond Kaplan University Unit 9 Project 11/11/12 Dear People of the future, My name is Susan Steichen and I live in the year 2012. Just wanted to let you know a little bit about me and what the past consists of through my point of view. My day usually consists of getting up at 3:30 am to get ready for work; I have to be to work at 5 am. I work in the accounting department at Wal-Mart, so I have to be there early to process the previous day’s transactions. I count all the monies and checks that get process throughout the day. I find the shortages and hold people accountable for their transactions. I usually leave for work around 2pm, I like that schedule as it gives me my afternoons free. I go home and spend some quiet time by myself until the rest of my family starts to come home around 3pm. I play with my granddaughter Trinity; she is the light of my life! We just re-elected the 54th President of the United States Barack Obama. What I hope to see in the future is a greener planet. I would like a better place to live for my future generations. I am hoping the human race had not been taken over with robots doing the work of man. I would say the biggest decision of morality would be this past election on November 6, 2012. The opposing candidate was named Mitt Romney. He was pro-life; to me this is a big moral issue. He denied the emergency contraception...

...A Day in the Life of Karl “PopEye” Lux; One Hundred years after. Karl W. Lux Kaplan University Under the instruction of Professor, Ken Caron My, oh my, what a wonderful day! First let me explain, it is Friday the thirteenth, and it is a full moon as well. It doesn’t get much rarer than that to start, so on this special day I commemorated it with a Full moon Friday the thirteenth tattoo; yes I am tatted, and pierced. I also lived in the Southern California area, and so, far as the weather, it was a perfect eighty two degrees with forty four percent humidity, and a slight breeze; sans clouds. A bit about myself, I am fifty one as of just two weeks prior to this writing, and in my second term of college. I have been forced into a career change due to a back injury. So, at this time I am going for a BS in Legal Studies, and working just part time to help pay the bills. Because of being back in school, most of my days were spent doing class work and doing cleaning and chores around the house; to keep me up and moving too. An average day for me, would always start off by feeding my dogs, and then feeding my face too. After that I will check my class white board that I have up, to see what I have on schedule for the day. I have recently realized a talent and passion for writing; so every day I would do a bit of writing just to stay sharp. So daily I could be found sitting in my writing studio hammering down on the keyboard of my computer. Through...

...with God and humanity. Suffering is not the main reason for incarnation. God is merciful. God doesn’t use Jesus as a puppet. The author uses the example of penal substitution. Jesus suffering on the cross isn’t the full plan for Jesus’s incarnation. Instead, God is with those who suffer. Jesus suffered on the cross to have a complete relationship with humanity. The reason for incarnation is Jesus connection with God and humanity. Second, through the life and teaching of Jesus gives incarnation purpose. Jesus was able to connect with humanity through his life. The incarnation is not only Jesus divinity but his humanity as well. Jesus can suffer with us and be humanity during the worst of times. Jesus resurrection brings justice to those who are guilty and oppressed. This also shows...

...deadly virus cannot be stopped but can only be cured. Such sentiments bring out the hidden plot, which unfolds in the nail-biting finale of the movie. At the end of the movie, Cole meets his death in the arms of his lover Dr. Railly. In the last scene, it seems as though the scientists from Cole’s time had set him up to his death. This raises question over the real reason why the scientists sent Cole back to the past. The scientists confess to developing the virus 30 years ago to Cole as well as implicating Mr. Goines, who is Cole’s friend from the past. When Cole closes in on the truth he meets his demise. After Cole’s death, Dr. Peters meets with a scientist from the past in the plane. Railly then poses a question to Peters of whether humanity is doomed or not. This question remains in the minds of the viewers as there is no obvious answer to it. Narrative Structure The structure of most films can be broken down into three major steps. The first step is the initial problem which is the pivot of the plot of the story. It is followed by a conflict, dilemma or complications that the character’s face in a bid to solve the problem. The...

...Parapsychology can be defined as the branch of psychology that deals with behavior which cannot now be explained or described in terms of known physical principles. It, just like any other branch of science, has smaller divisions, extrasensory perception and psychokinesis. Extrasensory perception, more commonly referred to as ESP, is the knowledge of or responds to an external event or influence not apprehended through known sensory channels. Psychokinesis, on the other hand, is the ability of a person to influence a physical system without physical interaction. For the purpose of this essay, Extrasensory Perception will be the main division that will be talked about. ESP is nothing knew to humanity. Thousands of movies, Matilda, The Sixth...

...currently inhabit the planet, and by the year 2050 this number is likely to grow to more than nine billion.” A growing population will only put a greater strain on the Earth’s all ready life support systems. Greater environmental degradation is beginning to make a palpable mark on the earths climate, with rising average temperatures and seas levels, and these effects will only magnify if business continues as usual. Of course, a technologically sophisticated society, such as ours, might be able to reinvent itself in a way that extends the carrying capacity of the earth and can support the growing population of the human species. The possibility of living within the limits of the Earth’s support systems is available to humanity; the only question is just how does humanity go about reinventing itself to live within those limits. Some have suggested that that corporations can be...
