It was called to my attention that I have exceeded my number of units in order to qualify for financial aid. When I first started going to Allan Hancock College I had to be a full time student in order to stay on my fathers health insurance at that time. I had no choice but to take classes I did not need. Since the new health care bill passed, I am able to take classes required by my major. I am in the dental assisting program and it is require that we are CPR certified and I’m up for renewal. I have to be certified before summer in order to be qualified to take the state board exam. By adding an additional course along with second semester courses for the dental assisting program I have maxed out my units. As of right now I am not currently employed and I’m using my savings/financial aid to get by with school. I tried working part time while being a full time student in the program(my first attempt) and …show more content…
While I was in the program my father was diagnosed with osteoporosis(broken bones in his feet)chronic lung disease causing him to be on disability for several months and this took a financial toll on his income. I ended up helping him out with his mortgage and taking care of the household. My now Ex had a gambling problem(I had no idea) and he told me “even If I quit my job, I’m still going to fail.” Myself esteem took a big a hit but I choose to quit my job in attempt to save my failing grades… In order to re-apply to the dental assisting program, I had to get “D’s” in all of my classes(repeatability issue) which put me on academic probation. I was planning on going back to work when I got out of the program but my dad had a painful rheumatoid arthritis flair up that lasted for eight months and was diagnosed with chronic lung disease. He could not even open up a water bottle with out being in excruciating pain. I decided to stay home and take care of him until I got word If got accepted into

Financial Statements

...Application of Financial Statement Strayer University A balance sheet is a financial statement that reports the assets, liabilities, and stockholder’s equity at a specific point in time. The balance sheet is like a snapshot of the financial condition of a company. The asset section lists everything that the company owns, such as cash, inventory, accounts receivable, and long-term assets such as property, land or equipment. The asset section helps analysts, investors, and creditors understand what a business owns and what their objectives are. The liability section of the balance sheet reports what a company owes, such as debts or loans. Liabilities are divided into two separate sections, current and long-term liabilities. Current liabilities are financial obligations that are to be paid within the coming year such as accounts payable and short-term loans. Long-term liabilities are obligations that the company expects to pay after one year such as bonds payable and mortgage payable. In understanding the assets and liabilities sections of the balance sheet, the manager can evaluate the relationship between the current assets and current liabilities. These relationships can be expressed in ratios such as the current ratio and working capital. The current ratio is calculated by dividing the current assets by the current liabilities. Working capital is calculated by subtracting the current liabilities from the current assets. The amount of working capital is an indicator of the...

It explores them from a personal point of view and how the balance sheet is used in an everyday life of an individual using his own assets and liabilities and determining his net worth. As it also discusses how a manager can benefit his company by understanding the concept of a balance sheet and using it to determine how well the company is doing and its ability to pay its debts and continue in the business. This paper also discusses my understanding of the balance sheet and income statement and how they may be applied to my future position of planning to start a small business. Select either the balance sheet or income statement and explain how the use of it may be applied to your everyday life. The accounting balance sheet is one of the major financial statements used by accountants and business owners. The balance sheet is also referred to as the statement of financial position. The balance sheet presents a company's financial position at the end of a specified date. Some describe the balance sheet as a "snapshot" of the company's financial position at a point in time. For example, the amounts reported on a balance sheet dated December 31, 2011 reflect that instant when all the transactions through December 31 have been recorded. (2012, Averkamp) Because the balance sheet informs the reader of a company's financial position as of one moment in time, it allows...

Research Methods

...research is a process that needs to be actively managed. The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and has not yet been discovered. Research is therefore undertaken to gain familiarity with new insights into a phenomenon (i.e., formative research studies); to accurately portray the characteristics of a particular individual, group, or a situation (i.e., descriptive research studies); to analyse the frequency with which something occurs (i.e., diagnostic research studies); and to examine the hypothesis of a causal relationship between two variables (i.e., hypothesis-testing research studies). 1.2 Research topic defined According to Laura Morrison, 2014, a research topic is an idea or theory that is expressed as a statement, a contention for which evidence is gathered and discussed logically. One of the most important concerns in choosing a thesis topic is that the topic speaks to an area of current or future demand. A research topic should be of interest to the researcher, advisors, and the research community. If it is not, it may be difficult to stay motivated or to "sell" the idea. When searching for a topic, one should keep in mind that the research should attempt to solve a real problem and should contain solid theoretical work, as well as empirical results. It should be both connected to existing research and centred on a...

GAAP in health care aids the organization show its financial strength and establish its ability to get credit. The first GAAP is the accounting entity. This principle states that the business is separate from the owners and board members. The owners and/or board members’ assets and liabilities are kept separate from the organizations. However, if the hospital buys new beds for the PCU unit, then this transaction can and should be placed in the financial statement. The third GAAP is duality. The answer to this question is managerial accounting. According to J. W. Jones (2013), a retired managerial accountant, her job and other positions with the title are responsible for reporting financial information to the company’s administration and parties outside of her organization such as stockholders or creditors; however, her focus was the internal accounting services and needs of the business’s management. Mrs. Jones confirms there is a difference between managerial and financial accounting. Her career choice was managerial accounting which specialized in helping gather and communicate the information needed to set the company’s long term objectives and goals for cost control, revenue strengths and weaknesses, and profit data statistics within in local departments, regional and often territorial plants. At times, Mrs. Jones found herself working with certain data regarding customer groups and how they would be affecting that business segment in the future.
