Fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. I believe this because no matter the amount of exercise anyone does, the positive effects are mainly from the food choices we make. Example, if I continuously ate fast food and ran on a daily basis there would be no results. At some point, either my eating habits are going to have to change or the exercising would stop. It becomes a mental strain when results are not met and the exercise has become more difficult. Healthy eating habits and the right fitness regime lead to a healthier lifestyle. Obesity is problematic here in the United States. According to the CDC over one third of adults in America are obese and 17% of children between the ages of 2-19 are obese (Overweight and Obesity, 2013). Studies have shown that America is not healthy. It said to cost Americans 150 billion dollars and 10% of medical costs (Overweight and Obesity, 2013). Contributing factors have been said to be the foods we intake, the convenience of the type of foods that are available, and the food portions have been increased. Obesity can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer (Overweight and Obesity, 2013). With obesity being an epidemic in America our physical activity has lessen too. When I was growing up I remember always being outside. Now a days, it is rare you see kids playing in the neighborhood. The sedentary lifestyle is among us. We are finding kids inside the house playing video games or adults not wanting to exert energy by simply walking. Times have changed from 15 years ago so much that overweight and laziness have become the norm (control, 2013). Knowing the harms associated with obesity I have armed myself with valuable knowledge. I have taken certain steps to keep my lifestyle healthy. Currently I

...Nutrition and Fitness Veronica L. Powell University of Phoenix SCI/100 Terry Gatchell April 20, 2010 Nutrition and Fitness In July 1996 I was at Fort Jackson, South Carolina entering Basic Training for the United States Army. The training was rigorous to say the least. Every morning we were up at 0500 (military time) to do physical training (PT), which involved running two or three miles, doing sit-ups, push-ups, and side straddle hops (jumping jacks). The Army gave three basic meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Although we were allowed a variety of meats, starches, and vegetables to choose from, these meals provided the daily nutritional value recommended for the human body and served using the correct portion size. Prior to going to the military I personally had no idea about nutrition and fitness and how it was important to the human body. Upon examining nutrition and fitness, the focus of this paper will be my current fitness and nutritional habits, health risks associated with obesity, identify and describe three new fitness habits, identify and describe three new nutritional habits, find how new habits promote healthy weight, and how new habits benefit my health. Current Nutritional and Fitness Habits During the past couple of years my nutritional and fitness habits have changed dramatically. Healthy fitness and nutritional habits improve health by promoting healthy body weight, reducing risk for chronic diseases, and foster optimal wellness. Evaluation of my current fitness and nutritional habits helped me to identify areas for improvement to my physical health. My eating habits can be described as meal skipping, lacking fruits and vegetables, and nutrient and vitamin deficit. In addition to this, my water intake is almost nonexistent. My current fitness routine is minimal. I do not have a regular exercise plan. I drive to most places I go to. The only physical activity I get occurs when I’m doing household chores and light gardening. I go dancing with a group of friends once a week. I have been eating on the go, never working-out and essentially doing whatever was quick, easy, and convenient. I have had some personal life changes which have made all this change in the past month or so. I have known I’ve had high blood pressure for over 20 years as it is hereditary in my family. Most recently I have had spells where I would almost pass out, dizzy and become very light headed. After visiting the Doctor he recommended performing a stress test and EKG which showed at some point I had had a mini-stroke. I feel this was a wakeup call to get my life back on track and to stay on track for the duration of my life. ...BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW Bally Total Fitness was created in 1996 with Lee Hillman as its first CEO. Bally traces its existence to the Health and Tennis Corporation, run by Dave Wildman. Wildman had begun to purchase ailing gyms and aggressively expanded and acquired several other brands as well. In the 1990s, as part of a diversification move, Bally Manufacturing, a gambling equipment company, decided to purchase Wildman’s collection of gyms and other brands. This diversification of brands created what was known as Bally Entertainment. Bally Total Fitness was then created in 1996 as the health club portion of Bally Entertainment. Lee Hillman started the company off in an unusual path, Mr. Hillman used a retrenchment strategy by selling off outlets, rationalizing Bally’s brand portfolio, and closing several clubs, which then returned the business to profitability. During Hillman’s course of leadership, Bally developed a very broad range of products and services, which increased revenues out of the company’s existing membership base and added profit to the bottom line. The company faced a triggering event when Bally’s CEO Lee Hillman stepped down suddenly in December of 2002. Bally’s chief operation officer at the time, Paul Toback, replaced Mr. Hillman and moved to the top of the company. Toback’s started as CEO explaining that he expected changes to the company to be “more evolutionary than revolutionary”. Under Hillman’s lead, Bally was operating essentially as two different...

...Nutrition and Fitness Lee Morgan SCI/100 April, 30 2012 Laura Ross Nutrition and Fitness Being more health conscious as of late, the ability to make better decisions as it pertains to food intake is becoming more repetitious. A healthy lifestyle is now part of the subconscious mind; eating less junk and more fruit, counting calories instead of counting the minutes to the next meal. Things were not always this way. Before marriage, visits to fast food restaurants were frequent; however, there was not much change afterwards. An individual who is obese much like myself, needs to have a revelation to change their lifestyle. Fortunately, the birth of my son was enough to change previous bad habits. Unfortunately, majority of individuals suffering from obesity experience a different form of revelation that involves a doctor, hospital or worse, a trip to the emergency room. The decision to change one’s lifestyle comes at a cost. Change is inevitable whether it is voluntary or involuntary; however, it is not easy. When an individual is accustomed to eating a certain way, the thought of change can be enough to discourage one to move forward with the process. Personally, the idea of measuring cereal and milk for breakfast seemed unnecessary and tasking. Not to mention lunch, snacks and dinner. What real steak fits in the palm of the hand? In the beginning it was rough; however, when one evaluates how good they feel, they will come to the conclusion, change is good. Now that nutrition...
