...Goal Selection Leatrice McKinney PSY/220 November 2, 2012 DR. Jocelyn Enabulele Goal Selection Research supports the general notion that progressing toward and achieving personally important goals increases people’s satisfaction with their lives and themselves (e.g., Brunstein, 1993; Cantor & Sanderson, 1999; Emmons, 1996; Emmons & Kaiser, 1996; McGregor & Little, 1998). For example a semester long study found that student’s perceived progress toward achieving their personal goals was significantly correlated with increases in positive emotion and life satisfaction (Brunstein, 1993). A number of studies support a matching hypothesis as a way of sorting out which goals lead to increased well-being and which do not (see Harackiewicz & Sansone, 1991; Lyubomirsky et al., 2005). The Pursuit of goals that express or fulfill an individual’s needs, values, motives, or self- conception is more likely to increase well- being than pursuit of goals. When I first began School at the University of Phoenix I had a goal of earning an Associate’s degree in Computer Technology but as time went by I began to feel uncomfortable with my decision so I began to ponder and think “just maybe” I should change my major to Christian Counseling. So after much thinking and talking to others I knew what I had to do instead of working with my hands in replacing parts in computers where there is not much money to be made in this field especially where I live. I decided on Human Resources...

...Information System Briefing Understanding how goals of an organization and the roles of its stakeholders affect the selection process of an information system is vital to the success of that project. To ensure the execution of this task as well as its organization, efficiency, and accuracy, key leaders join creating a team of professionals ready for implementing change (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . Learning how to select and acquire an information system, goals that should drive it and the roles of stakeholders is imperative to keep the project from failing. Selecting and Acquiring an Information System The process for selecting and acquiring an information system begins when the benefits of the current system no longer outweigh the cost to maintain it (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . A general process most organizations use to select and acquire a new information system is the “systems development lifecycle” (SDLC). This system consists of four phases, which are planning and analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . Phase one in this process is the, planning, and analysis phase. The focus is to identify the organizations current information systems in an effort to define specific areas that may need improvement. The second step in this process is the, design phase. During this phase, the team decides the most appropriate route for establishing the project financially, settles on a specific information...

When selecting a channel partner, SPEAR, an acronym that describes important selection criteria, is often used to target the best candidate during a selection process. ...THE |ROLE OF MONITORING & EVALUATION * Provide constant feedback on the extent to which the projects are achieving their goals. * Identify potential problems at an early stage and propose possible solutions. * Monitor the accessibility of the project to all sectors of the target population. * Monitor the efficiency with which the different components of the project are being implemented and suggest improvements. * Evaluate the extent to which the project is able to achieve its general objectives. * Provide guidelines for the planning of future projects (Bamberger 4). * Influence sector assistance strategy. Relevant analysis from project and policy evaluation can highlight the outcomes of previous interventions, and the strengths and weaknesses of their implementation. * Improve project design. Use of project design tools such as the logframe (logical framework) results in systematic selection of indicators for monitoring project performance. The process of selecting indicators for monitoring is a test of the soundness of project objectives and can lead to improvements in project design. * Incorporate views of stakeholders. Awareness is growing that participation by project beneficiaries in design and implementation brings greater “ownership” of project objectives and encourages the sustainability of project benefits. ...potential loss of funding” (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2009, para. 9). Implementing a new software system will benefit the Mobile Mammography Van greatly. This paper is intended to identify the process for selecting and acquiring an information system, explain how the organizations goals drive the selection process, and identify the roles each organization’s stakeholders play in the selection process. Selecting and Acquiring an Information System When an organization is selecting and acquiring a new information system there is a great deal of planning and steps they must take to implement the system properly. The first step is to establish a project steering committee. “This committee’s primary function is to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage all aspects of the acquisition process” (Wager, et. al., 2009, pg. 150). After the committee has been formed the project goals should be outlines along with the scope of the project and committee. Many questions will need to be discussed during this step. For example, the committee will need to determine the methods, processes, communication techniques, resources, and type of system that will be used through the selection and acquisition process. Once project goals and the scope of the project are defined the next step is to screen the marketplace and review vendor profiles. “Concurrently with the...

...Decisions of Uncertainty Introduction The Decision What is the probability of hiring a qualified employee upon selecting one from 52 applicants 26 are male and 26 are female? Probability Concepts The probability of the event –hiring a qualified male employee—is the proportion of times the company would expect to obtain a qualified male employee over the long run if the HR managers selected applicants many times. I will refer to each repetition of the situation – in this case the selection of a qualified male future employee—as a sampling experiment. The probability of the event is the proportion of times we would expect the event to occur in an infinitely long series of identical sampling experiments. The Outcome In this case, the probability of selecting a qualified male employee is 0 .50 or 50%. I arrived at this conclusion by using the knowledge that there are 52 applicants who areapplying for the open position, 26 are female and 26 are male. If the company assume that each of the 52 possibilities is equally likely, it is reasonable to expect that the company would select a male applicant that is qualified for the open position 0.50 of the time of a period of time ( 26/52 = ½ = 0.50 ). This illustrates the basic rule for obtaining probabilities in situations in which each of the possible outcomes is equally likely, the probability of the occurrence of an event is equal to the proportion of the possible outcomes characterized by the event. In the case of...
