How Does Cow's Milk Affects The Human Body

We have all been told that milk is full of vitamins and is healthy for humans, but is it really? Milk is healthy, but only for calves, until they are weaned. Although many people believe that cow’s milk is an essential part of the human diet and there is nothing that can replace it, cow’s milk contains unhealthy substances, affects the human body adversely, and there are healthier, less damaging alternatives to it.

Cow’s milk is meant to nourish newborn calves until their stomachs are able to digest grass. Naturally, it contains just the right amount of carbohydrates, protein, and fat to help a calf develop into a cow, but most cows are not fed a natural grass diet. They are fed corn and grains, which they cannot digest properly. This leads …show more content…
For a human to digest lactose, they must produce the enzyme, lactase, but most humans stop producing it after they have been weaned off of breast milk, according to Dr. Ananya Mandal. Those who do not produce lactase are lactose intolerant, cannot metabolize lactose, and experience digestive issues. (“Lactase Biology”)

This leads us to the main course; how milk affects the human body. Milk has been proven to be unhealthy for humans. Acne and lactose intolerance are some of the effects of drinking milk; the more extreme being osteoporosis, heart disease, and cancer.
One relatively minor effect of cow’s milk is acne. Even though it is a minor symptom, acne can have a catastrophic effect on a person’s self esteem and life. A study conducted in 2012 showed that the consumption of more than three servings per week of milk raised the risk for severe acne. (“Result Filters”) A separate study in Leeds, England showed that unemployment levels were notably higher among acne patients of both sexes, compared to the controls. (Tan)
