...for a few years I eventually got a better outlook on life and I'm here to share my tips to help you in your pursuit of happiness. o Step 1: Own yourself! Accept yourself. Be happy with yourself because while yes, you can change, there is no guarantee you will be happy with yourself after you have. You are the only you and putting on a façade is tiring and bad for your physical and mental well-being. o Step 2: Follow your heart! If you are ever given multiple options, and you don’t know which option to go with, go with what feels right. Even if it is the wrong option it’s only temporarily going to make you unhappy. o Step 3: Treat yourself like you deserve to be happy! This is everything from eating well; to making sure you get enough sleep. When your body feels good, naturally your brain will too. This isn't to say you can’t indulge in your favourite fatty foods sometimes, but remember, only in moderation. o Step 4: Make friends! I can’t stress the importance of this enough. Only hang around with people who make you feel happy. Distance yourself from people who are toxic to you and your happiness. You are designed to feel better when in social situations with people you get along with. o Step 5: Smile! The most important thing. If you look happy on the outside, you feel happy on the inside. Smiling is like a feedback loop: smiling reinforces happiness, just as happiness causes smiling. So don’t worry and just...

...January 14, 2013 How to Live a Happy Life I once read from the very popular Reader’s Digest that being happy can add seven up to ten more years in your life. From that time on, I have developed my own guide to a happy life. Although we are never free from troubles, we can always maximize our happiness. Well, there are so many articles on the internet, magazines and books presenting thousands of ways to be happy and reading all those can sometimes be tiring. To spare you from that, I have narrowed it down to four simple and general rules. So if you want to live those ten more years, all you’ve got to do is listen and pay attention. First on my list is to appreciate the little things like the sunshine or the rain; the leaves and the flowers; a nice cup of coffee or tea; and most importantly, yourself. For it is when we appreciate these little things, we become contented and eventually learn to become more grateful of the bigger things life has to offer us. Be thankful like a child and you’ll be surprised of the many great things the world can show you. Now, try to remember what you felt the first time your parents told you you’re having a trip to this really cool place. You were excited and that even made your spirits high. It’s that same feeling when you try something new. So, get excited and do something that can get you thrilled. Go out, explore out of the ordinary stuff, meet new people and have fun. Travelling will never fail you; getting lost can sometimes help you...

...in a hurry to get married. Women have now become more independent, they do not want to do all housework and raise their children, or sacrificing their career growth, is one of the causes of the changes in family formation. A happy marriage may be built only on love, tolerance, mutual understanding, equality, and respect. The problem is important because both husband and wife are now in many cases on equal terms. More and more women demonstrate higher levels of education than men, more and more women compete with men, holding leadership positions in business, politics and social life. Now a lot of women are the financial support to the family. As the result, women become materially independent. They are not materially tied to a family anymore. When they get married, they enrich their world that is now built on kinship, love, safety, quality leisure time activities in which all family members are involved. A family develops a collective feeling of interconnectedness, which is opposed to loneliness. Joy and duty, love and care, discipline and kindness - all these are taken together in a family as a pillar of stable social development. I have talked to married people in search of a "happy family" recipe. I want to share some of my findings with you. A happy marriage is based on intimacy and commitment. It is a bond that outgrows passion as the feature of romantic love. It is a bond that is based on mutual respect and the feeling as if both husband and wife were in many respects...

Another ethical issue to point out is the ethicality of the decision of the elderly customers to stay in McDonalds from dawn to closing time and whether they have the right as customers to do so. It is true that elders are entitled to a certain level of respect but in turn, elderly customers should have the decency to return that respect to the business establishment. Considering that McDonald’s branches in the US offer coffee and free refills to customers in the morning, it may seem exploitative towards McDonalds. Having customers who loiter inside for unconventionally long...

...About Sharing Happiness We can only share happiness with others when we ourselves know how to be happy and are happy. If we are not happy (it means we don't know how to be happy), then how can we share happiness with others and ask others to be happy, when we don't have happiness in ourselves? We can share our joy and happiness with all beings without any discrimination of human beings or non-human beings, good beings or bad beings, happy beings or unhappy beings, wise beings or ignorant beings, but we cannot give happiness to others nor can we make other beings to become happy. If one can give happiness to others or can make another being to become happy, then there shouldn't be any beings being unhappy in the world, because we can just give happiness to everyone and make everyone happy. But it doesn't work like that. Not even Buddha nor any enlightened beings can make another being to become happy or to become enlightened. If it is so easy, we can just ask for happiness or enlightenment and be happy forever and be enlightened. It is all come from within ourselves. Happiness or enlightenment, it is up to our own efforts to realize them within ourselves. It cannot be given or be bought from someone else. All the teachers and teachings are there to guide us to attain true happiness and enlightenment by our own effort. When beings are unhappy, have no peace in the heart, the mind is full of attachment, ignorance, anger, hatred, jealousy, arrogance, dissatisfaction, frustration...

...In the articles “Do You Have What It Takes To Be Happy” by Stacey Colino and “The Happiness Factor” by David Brooks, both authors give insights on happiness, how to be happy, and where happiness comes from. Colino mainly talks about how having a healthy self-esteem, a sense of optimism, gratifying relationships, and meaning and purpose in your life have the most influence on your happiness. Brooks talks about how money, fame, and wealth shouldn’t make us happy. However, both Brooks and Colino express that happiness comes from your inner self, and what you surround yourself with, not materialistic things. First of all, Brooks views on happiness differs from Stacey Colino. Brooks feels happiness comes from relationships with people, and not money. He brought up a good example with the famous actress Sandra Bullock. She won the Academy Award for best actress in 2010. Then news reports came out that her and her husband had a divorce. He was an “adulterous jerk.” Brooks stated that if you have a unsuccessful marriage or relationship, it does not matter what career achievements you have, you will remain unhappy. According to Brooks, countries with high social trust have happier people, better health, and more efficient government. Furthermore, Stacey Colino states basically how to be happy and what steps to take. She gives different ideas on how to be happy, for example, develop an upbeat attitude, hang out with your favorite people, etc. Stacey views happiness with what you...

I never imagined that I would be exercising ten minutes a day, and have to cut my portion sizes. Two kids later, I never thought that I would be taking courses at Ashford. Of course you can eat what you want, but what about your body susceptible to illness, like high blood pressure or diabetes. You should be able to find a happy medium between being the two. In this essay I will be talking about how you can be healthy and happy at the same time, and they intertwine creating the happy medium. There is an alarming trend with people seeking out these losing weight quick schemes in order to find a happy medium within themselves. People result in using these fads advertised on TV and in magazines to take the easy way out, or when they are unsuccessful in losing weight the right way. As we mature we find the medium between being healthy, and being happy. For example, getting enough sleep, eating healthier, and exercising, because when you think about it, healthy and happy balance each other out. When you get the recommended amount of sleep every night, which is healthy for you, and when you wake up in the morning you feel energized, happy. ...10 Things Happy People Do Differently 10 strategies happy people incorporate into their lives Published on October 16, 2012 by Paula Davis-Laack, J.D., M.A.P.P. in Pressure Proof Happiness is having a large, caring, close-knit family in another city. George Burns How happy are you and why? This is a question I spend a fair amount of time thinking about, not only as it applies to my own levels of happiness, but also as it applies to my family, friends, and the people who I work with. Since graduating with my master’s degree in positive psychology, I’ve worked with and observed thousands of people in a wide variety of settings, and happy people just flow with the groove of life in a unique way. Here is what they do differently: 1) They build a strong social fabric. Happy people stay connected to their families, neighbors, places of worship, and communities. These strong connections act as a buffer to depression and create strong, meaningful connections. The rate of depression has increased dramatically in the last 50-75 years. The World Health Organization predicts that by 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of mortality in the world, impacting nearly one-third of all adults (Murray & Lopez, 1996). While several forces are likely behind this increase, one of the most important factors may be the disconnection from people and their families and communities. ...ones. Prevalent on the minds of many humans are the following questions: How does one achieve happiness? How can one make their pursuit of happiness less difficult? In John Stuart Mill's opinion, one should not pursue happiness at all. Mill has reported that he has found that "Those only are happy have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness." As a matter of fact, Mill believes that focusing on one's happiness will cause an individual to become unhappy, as supported by the quote "Ask yourself whether...

...subject of success, and how to obtain it, it is almost impossible to find an agreement on how people feel like you can achieve such a thing. We see a prime example of this debate in Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller. In this play, the characters Happy, Willy and Biff all struggle with the challenge of obtaining success. Though the three share the belief that the approval of others control success, they contrast in their belief on how important others approval is in relation to other characteristics of being successful; because Biff understands that hard work is a more effective in achieving success than popularity, he is the most likely to succeed and have a satisfied life. The first character we are familiarized with is Willy, who is also Biff and Happy’s father. Willy is a firm believer that when it comes to obtaining success, “personality always wins the day” (Miller, 1868) over hard work. In the play, the reader is shown examples of Willy raising his sons to follow this type of belief. When Biff and Happy were children, Willy often taught his unworkable success lessons, one example is when he tells his sons “be liked and you will never want” (Miller, 1853). Alice Griffin writes that Willy has an “inability to distinguish between the dream of success and the reality of the world...
