Why I want to be a Teacher

“Class, let’s go around the room and share what everyone would like to be when they grow up,” suggested my fourth grade teacher, Ms. Berry. I sat legs crossed on the hard carpet floor with butterflies in my stomach. I observed the answers my classmates shouted out with confidence. Still pondering what answer I would have when my turn came. “Aatika… Aatika…Aatika… are you alright?” asked Ms. Berry with concern in her voice and eyebrows raised. “Uhh…I want to be…a teacher,” I said with fear to my classmates’ responses. Everyone looked in disbelief because they could never image me being a teacher. In fact, I was in shock that I made the declaration.
Since that day, I changed my answer numerous of times from being the most requested lawyer in America, to the effective psychologist, down to the best fashion consultant across the globe, and the most popular marketer the world has ever seen. All of these options were evaluated thoroughly as I got closer to college. After my first year in college, majoring in Marketing, I realized this wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do. I desired a career that involved helping people strive to be the best they can be. Education is an important part of advancement, and being a teacher would be the perfect profession to help do that. One of the most important reasons I want to become a teacher is to help students excel with teaching them effective and enjoyable learning skills. In retrospect, I observed how some of my teachers would just teach the facts straight out the book .When they practiced these approaches, the majority of the class would always look like they were on the table snoring until the lunch bell rang. It was then I realized that wasn’t the type of teacher I wanted to be. Every student is not the same and has a different way of

Salient Signals Lab Report

...Salient signals are just important signals that allow an animal to react. Animals reaction time can be measured by the quickness an organism responds to the salient signals received by the brain. Humans are also able to measure their reaction time. But humans tend to have a faster reaction time because we are more aware of everything that is going on. With humans having such a wide spread of connections to figuring out our surroundings, there are going to be an enormous difference in the identity of human vs. animals. Because that one small thing changes so much about a human and animals brain. It's believed to be one of the reason humans are on top of the food chain, because we are more aware of many things that other animals aren't able to either process as fast or even process correctly. But with that being said, it shows that we have access more access to the experience of prey animals....

Invertase Lab Report

...answer the question of how many of drops of pH (either HCl or NaOH) it would take to render the enzyme useless and stop the digestion and breaking down of the substrate. The enzyme that we were using to answer this question was invertase. Invertase is an enzyme that splits the substrate sucrose into the component parts glucose and fructose, while sucrose, our substrate, is common table sugar. Throughout this experiment we learned a lot more about the resistance some enzymes have and how they break down their substrates. We conducted this experiment in a very basic and repetitive way. We started off by eight test tubes with all of them with filled with a dropper of invertase and sucrose. Half of the test tubes were filled with HCl and the other half NaOH. They were filled with 5, 10, 15, and 25 drops of each pH. We then put ten drops of Benedict’s Solution into each of the test tubes and boiled them either until...

You Are What You Think

...results of a hundred battles. In life, we go through many battles, not necessarily the real ones, but the battles with our own problems and others around us. Here we will see a little how to have strength, know ourselves better and then apply the knowledge to life. It is really important to know ourselves, to know how we will react to the challenges we face, and to have a good image of ourselves, since we are what we think. First, it is important that we have a good example to look up to and learn with. We will talk about heroes as they are a good example. A hero is a person who does something special, or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more than someone who helps many people. We have always looked up to our heroes. Some of us become heroes and that is thanks to the strength we take from them. They are great examples for kids and grownups. The humanity should keep taking the good things heroes have to share with us, and apply them in our lives. Second, “Having control of yourself”, is very important. Then we know how to control ourselves, our fears, and our excitement. We shouldn’t be blocked from doing something because we are afraid of what it’s going to happen. Also, we can’t become blind to good things. Even good things can have bad consequences if not...

Stress

...also feeling that’s created when we react to a particular event. It something we are not aware of, and sometime cannot control. Some would define stress as our reaction to the ups and downs of everyday life. Others might define stress as worry, pressure, tension, etc. Stress is defined as the non-specific response of the body to any demand placed on it, by Dr. Hans Seyle. In other words, anything that causes a "change or a reaction" in your body is called stress. In today world lot of us are unaware this is a problem until it’s too late. One of the biggest questions is how do you deal or release it? There are many ways people deal with stress. Although people often react to stress in harmful ways, they can react to it in positive ways. People may deal with stress in harmful ways. Some individuals could harm themselves trying to relieve stress. For example, some may overeat or smoke a lot; they sometimes get addicted to very harmful things that could eventually cause them to get ill. I have a friend who smokes drugs to relax from stress (weed). He shares this helps him get rid of stress (I feel this is only hurting him more). Many people sometimes blow up their tension, which ends up hurting close friends and family and even their relationships. This is something that everyone around the world shares .we have all, at one time or another been victims of conflict and/or uncontrollable situations also, known as stressors. According to Jane Loevinger’s theory and the stages of development is way to explain our experiences, to make sense of it all. We change as we go through our life but what cause these changes psychologically is unknown. This theory breaks it down into steps that we all face at one point or another in our lives. As we mature and get older we start reaching other steps or stages. According to our text material “each stage provides an overall framework of meaning that the person employs to make sense of the world. We all encounter different stages at different times, and sometimes don’t even get through one of them. Types of manifestations that occur vary. It can be through your impulse control, interpersonal mode, and conscious preoccupations. All are around how we react and cope, how we physically and mentally react, and how we carry it and let things reflect on us as individuals. We all at one point or another have suffered and dealt with the fact or being scared of not fitting in, and trying to figure out why we are here and what we are suppose to be doing, the bigger purpose of life. Reactions to Conflict

...In all aspects of our lives, we sometimes find ourselves facing conflict. It can happen at work, at home, at school, even when we’re out with friends. Although conflict is something everyone deals with throughout our lives, there are a number of ways we can choose to deal with it. Biologically, we all have the “fight or flight” instinct when faced with conflict, but those are the extremes. Some reactions fall somewhere between a fight or flight response. One possible reaction to conflict is aggression, which would be the “fight” reaction. This commonly presents itself during emotional conflicts, where the aggressor believes wholeheartedly that they are right and nothing the other person says makes any difference. Even in less emotional conflicts, an aggressive person may feel entitled to have things their way and refuse to compromise. This type of reaction rarely ends in a way that leaves both parties happy. The “flight” reaction refers to an extremely passive stance during conflict. The phrase “passive reaction” is almost an oxymoron. Someone who is very passive most likely won’t have much of a reaction at all. This can also be referred to as avoidance, since in essence, a passive person will most likely choose to avoid conflict at all cost. Unfortunately this reaction also rarely ends in compromise, with the passive person simply giving in without asserting any of their own needs. From my experience, the...

Virtuous Anger

...collected with sacrifice and effort. It is exceedingly important to know with what and when to be angry. This is the most difficult of decisions. Aristotle also believes that justice is a type of virtue. In other words, a just act is one of virtue. The lack of anger could result in a problematic society. If there were nothing to evaluate how we would then interact with one another? To say “live a life without anger” is as intense of a statement as saying “live a life without emotion”. So, it is ok to get angry, but by justifying the anger does not mean we should create a horrific scene and leave everyone with a well-funded memory of how things will end up if we are being teased or if things do not go our way. We should always try to seek peace and be the mature person without suppressing the anger. It’s a big challenge because this would include knowing when to react to anger, how to react to anger, and the degree to which it should be expressed. But even if we never reach perfection by trying and failing we will become better and better at handling types of situations. All of this readings leave me with the idea that the most favorable thing to do to balance the anger or any strong emotion is to prepare for those situations; to kind of...

Media Violence

...speech and also the freedom to create anything they feel would be entertaining to their audience as long as it doesn’t immediately make the audience to actually want to commit the crime. The media which has violence in it, has been fighting many lawsuits because people believe the violent media is a main cause why violence is being created in this world, even though our violence rate isn’t increasing. It doesn’t make sense to blame the violent media yet the parents are the main ones responsible for having control over what their own kids get to actually watch. People can’t control the media but they have control of how to raise their kids and how to teach children how to react to violent media. Although Media violence has a negative connection with people committing violent acts, it also teaches kids positive lessons to prevent violent acts from being committed, so we shouldn’t censor violent media. Although media violence can be intense to watch, it does not command people to commit violent acts. Some scientist would argue that it is clear that...

Biopsychology has also been called the mind-body connection. 2. What is the historical development of biological psychology? The historical development of biopsychology is traced as far back as the ancient Greek era. It became the Roman church who dictated much of the human behavior according to their religious beliefs. After the Dark Ages subsided a new way of thinking was born and this period is called the Renaissance era. With this era came new ways of studying things, ways to see things by observing them and this was how modern science was founded. 3. Abstract Thinking

... Peter ProQuest document link[->0] Abstract (Abstract): As recently as April 2009, at one of our You Asked for It workshops, Summit readers experienced a hands on demonstration of emotional intelligence (EI) at work. In a session led by Linda Pickard, workshop attendees figured out whether they were left or right brain dominant, or somewhere in between, and then learned how that characteristic played out in communications and negotiations with co-workers, clients and suppliers. Understanding your emotions and those of the people you are dealing with improves communication and, consequently, the outcome of the situation. I suspect that to many of you it sounds a bit "touchy feely" for a procurement magazine, but I also suspect that understanding and practicing your EI will go a long way to making work more productive, procurements more successful and contract management easier. A brief introduction to the science behind emotional intelligence explains a number of important things. The human brain's first role was to protect us from external threats. The 'flight or fight' response prompted us to react quickly to sounds and sights around us. There was no time for rational thought and the weighing of options. As the brain developed further, the neo-cortex, or front of the brain, became the site of the thinking mind. The sequence of development is significant. A demonstration of empathy requires the second L,...

Culture and Identity

...explains the importance of preserving language and how it can prevent the death of a nation's soul and identity. She also explains how language is a very important part of culture and how culture is a very important part of your identity. Therefore, culture is seen as the main designer of identity. How we act, react, and see the world depends on the culture we came from. People might see things differently according to their culture. If culture does not give us our first principles what would? As Talhouk states, “Language represents specific stages in our lives, and terminology that is linked to our emotions”(Talhouk 3). Culture is the same. Every time we smell, see or listen to something, it might bring memories that only people from the same culture can remember. These memories shape the way we perceive things in a sense that what could be normal for a group of people, can be disturbing or weird for others from different cultures. According to Talhouk, “The Arabic language doesn’t satisfy today's needs… it definitely isn’t a language we use at the airport. If we did so, they’d strip us of our clothes” (Talhouk 1-2). She believes that she can not use Arabic in the airport because she knows that the Arabic language will bring memories of the 911 to people making them to react certain way “they’d strip us of our clothes”. This connects back to the idea that culture makes us perceive things differently. At the airport they may react this way to her language, but at some place else...
