.... 1 Introduction The real estate market, like other markets, is subject to the pressure of supply and demand. When speculation runs wild, prices can inflate rapidly. This is a "housing bubble." The danger in this situation is that the market will not be capable of sustaining the inflated prices, so the value of properties begins to come down, sometimes rapidly. Definition of a Housing Bubble * A "housing bubble" is a cyclical economic event where high trade volumes inflate prices, which ultimately become unsustainable, causing a lowering, or "crash" in values. Economic bubbles may be called by a variety of terms, including a speculative bubble, a market bubble or a balloon. Economic cycles of this nature are not exclusive to real estate. They have occurred throughout history in a variety of markets, including stocks, tulips and pottery. Contributing Factors to Unstable Housing Conditions * It could be argued that a housing bubble is really an example of a credit bubble. Although real estate is the underlying commodity, most house buyers use credit -- in the form of a mortgage -- to secure the property. Lax lending guidelines, rapidly inflating values, speculative buyers and the use of adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs), which can adjust to higher rates, are all factors in accelerating the likelihood of borrowers defaulting...

I Want You

...I WANT YOU FOR THE U.S. ARMY!” Now, what would you do if someone were to ask you this? Or if you seen it out in town on a poster? Would you pay any attention to it or just walk on by? Most people would honestly just walk on by, unless, there was something in that particular poster that had caught their attention. Recruiting ads have changed over the years, but this one was popular. This particular recruiting advertisement was an effective argument because of their slogan, Uncle Sam, his stare, his point, and the use of America’s colors; red, white, and blue. I would say this particular recruiting image was for men or boys. Back then it were only the men or boys who could actually join the army. So, this poster excluded any women and girls because they were not allowed to join. The main targeted audience for this was for the younger men and boys, and for more than one reason. The younger they are, the more apt they are to be healthier. The army wants them to be younger because they can move more quickly and act upon things faster than someone who is older. They also want the men who don’t already have a family started because then they won’t have that worry while out in battle and can focus better on what they need to do. Where is the place where you see most advertisements for things? Out in town, right? This image was more than likely posted out in town on public buildings as well, that is where most of a town’s population goes for many different reasons. Having it out where...

I Want a Wife

...Who Wouldn't Want a Wife Marriage is one of the basic institutions of society. It has been researched and analyzed for centuries. Most beliefs have developed and changed, but some have remained as the fundamental basis. They are called marriage stereotypes or tenets being declared as true without giving proper reasoning. . In her essay " I Want a Wife", Judy Brady uses a pathos to describe the duties of a wife in the 1970's while writing in a persona of a husband. She explains why she would like to have a wife. Marriage stereotypes are certain ideas which are held true about marriage and roles of a husband and a wife in it. In Genesis 2:18 God states that it is not good that man is to be alone and He makes a helper suitable, or comparable to him. (Bible) A woman takes on the role of a helper when she marries, along with cooking, cleaning, and meeting the families need, according to society. At the beginning of the essay, Brady mentions that she belongs to that classified group of wives, married and with a child. As Brady is ironing clothes she starts thinking "I want a wife" after she thinks of a friend that ended being divorced and was waiting to find a wife. The author then reflects on her life and starts to write in a persona of a husband narrating all the duties that a wife would perform, as if narrating her own personal life. Not only does she want a wife that works but also attends to children, along with keeping up with their doctors appointment and attend to their...

What I Want to Be

...Where Am I, Where I Want to Go and What I Want to Be To begin, I will be starting this essay by saying right now I’m very content with where I am in life. Of course there’s always room for some improvement, but where I am right now I’m pretty content with being a working student who’s kind’ve scatter brained but has so many ideas in my head and dreams to achieve. Where I want to go, I really want to possibly be in a different state or even downtown Miami. Somewhere where I can branch out a little more and be way more adventurous, without any holds (my parents). And where I want to be, in a few years from now I want to be in the entertainment business whether it’s maybe managing a celebrity, or writing for a fashion magazine or even being a correspondent on a television show that reports pop culture such as E!, MTV or VH1. Furthermore, where I am right now like I mentioned above I’m quite content. I work in retail, I own a car, I have a decent income, I’m still at home with my parents but I don’t depend on them so much. I have a social life, and a great group of friends and I’m in a happy time at age 21. Although, I wish I could of course be exceeding a little more that’s what school is for! And attending school is another thing that I’m happy with, because without it I’d probably be extremely bored at home and putting my brain to no good use. Continuing on, where I want to go I’d love to be downtown in a few years from now or even in California. And I say this...

I Want a Wife

...Essay) JUDY BRADY I Want a Wife (1971) Judy Brady’s essay became an instant classic when it appeared in 1971 in the premier issue of the feminist magazine Ms. As you read, analyze the definitions of “husband” and “wife” that Brady uses, and consider why this essay became so powerful in the 1970s. I belong to that classification of people known as wives. I am A Wife. And, not altogether incidentally, I am a mother. Not too long ago a male friend of mine appeared on the scene fresh from a recent divorce. He had one child, who is, of course, with his ex-wife. He is looking for another wife. As I thought about him while I was ironing one evening, it suddenly occurred to me that I, too, would like to have a wife. Why do I want a wife? I would like to go back to school so that I can become economically independent, support myself, and, if need be, support those dependent upon me. I want a wife who will work and send me to school. And while I am going to school I want a wife to take care of my children. I want a wife to keep track of the children’s doctor and dentist appointments. And to keep track of mine, too. I want a wife to make sure my children eat properly and are kept clean. I want a wife who will wash the children’s clothes and keep them mended. I want a wife who is a good nurturant attendant to my children, who arranges for their schooling, makes sure that they have an adequate social life with their peers, takes them to the park, the zoo, etc. I want a wife who takes care...

I Want to Be Free

...it shone again. The beam reflected on my mirror, lighting the whole room, the darkness holding on to the last piece till finally it flew off. My room ached with delight as it finally shimmered in the warmth, the door finally getting the food it wanted as it could not reach before for it because it was shut tight away from the chilling darkness as if the sun was right inside my house. “I will be free, I will be free, I will be free…” I muttered to window as I stared at it, not blinking as if there was a staring contest going on, not noticing how suddenly my room had lit up and that the door was slowly, silently creaking open. A shadow appeared in front of me as it pushed me back from the window, realizing that someone was in my room, the light fading as darkness returned to where it wanted to belong. “I want to be free” mimicked my mother. “Go outside and then you’ll be free. Go to the ocean.” “I want to be free, I want to be free, I want to be free…” I still murmered as I ambled my way towards the encouraging the door, igonoring my mother as she shook her head in the background. Scholarship I Want

...career-related success, I continue to push myself further so that I can always grow as a person. In high school my primary goals included being in the top two of my class and getting into a University. I accomplished both of them! Now that I’m here, my new goals are to try as hard as I can to succeed here as well as I did in high school. My grade point average as well as my lack of participation in student organizations may not reflect how hard I have really been working here, or show that I am a good candidate for this scholarship. I am a hard working first year student. As soon as I arrived here in August, I started work with Intramural Sports facility on campus. I continue to work as a student worker, 4 days a week shift (8pm-10pm). As most of you may know, settling into college isn't as easy for some as it is for others. All of my first semester was spent trying to get used what I had to do vs. what I wanted to do. Let alone adjusting to the work-load as a student working towards a major in MIS. I continue to adjust my schedule to succeed in my classes. Now that I’m starting to get used to what I need to be doing, I am doing very well in my classes! Trust me, working 4 days a week and having a 15 credit hour work load isn't easy. I wouldn't be working if I didn't have to be. I am a student, putting myself through college. I don’t have help from my parents, I pay for things myself, I have too many responsibilities to count, and I continue to do well. Needless to say, I am proud of myself...

I Want to Live

...I Want To Live Life What do you think of when you hear the word marriage? When I hear that word, I think of two people so in love that they want to spend the rest of their lives together. They want to raise a family in a big house with a white picket fence and live happily ever after. Lets be real, statistics show that 40-50% of marriages will end in divorce. I don’t know about you, but those odds aren’t really in my favor. So when I look at it all there are just to many disadvantages to marriage. Getting married is such a hassle, why would anyone want to. You have to deal with wedding planners, flower arrangements, guest lists and etc. Theirs just to much to put into getting married your already stressing yourself out before you actually get into the marriage. Lets not forget about the things you have to give up. Such as, you aren’t able to take risks. The way I see it, life involves risks. Some that betters you off and some that bites you in the butt and set you back. From experience with me when I fall or get set back, I get up and take another risk and move on. I think taking risks are fine, as long as you’re the one who suffers from the setbacks. You can’t take those chances with another person’s life, health; money and future are in your hands. It would be a pretty selfish thing to do. To me marriage means your keeping the best interest of two people in mind at all times. Yeah, it might keep you from going to jail or other stupid moves, but it might also hold you...

I Want a Wife

...Anonymous In the 1970 essay "I Want a Wife", by Judy Brady, The author effectively showed her message, Brady was a women, underappreciated and fed up with it The author wanted to express some resentment in what men expect of women a wife. There is a somewhat humorous tone to the way Brady sends that message in her writing, No person could fit the model of wife she illustrated, Brady shows that she and other wives are somewhat robbed of things, that men take for granted. Brady writes this essay in a first person point of view. She is writing as the man who wants a super wife. She makes a list of the responsibilities that a typical woman from the 1970's would have. According to Brady "If by chance I find more suitable as a wife than the wife I already have, the author states “I want the liberty to replace my current wife with a new one." That is a clear of how Brady feels she and other women are treated unjustly. In the 1970's it was an era that marriages strongly reflected what Brady was trying to say. In that time I think that the essay was calling out, she is a wife and wants to show other wives that they aren't the only ones fed up with the system of marriage. The author states "I belong to that classification of people known as wives. I am a wife. And, not altogether incidentally I am a mother." I think she just wants people to know that she wants to reverse roles. I don't think in today’s society that this is as much an issue as when Brady wrote this essay. While true...

I can say that it all started with my mom. My mom always had high expectations of me. These expectations were not in the sense of ‘you have to get straight A’s and become a rich doctor’, but more in the sense to encourage me to strive for and achieve higher education for my own benefit.
