Throughout the years there have been numerous individuals who migrate from all over the world in search of a better life in Spain. Even during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, many people, especially women, were migrating to Spain in hopes of finding economic prosperity. Franco’s regime, which lasted for about thirty six years, was a time where women were considered to be at the same stage as children. Women had basically no rights to do anything under this regime and because of the strict dictatorship, women never had the chance to do anything. So not only did immigrant women have to face obstacles with moving into a new country, but they also had to deal with this traditionalist ideology which greatly hindered their possibility at thriving in a new country.
During this dark time in Spain, women were dehumanized and were told that if they wanted to be successful, they needed to be married, keep their home nice and clean, have dinner ready, take care of their children and her husband …show more content…
The viewer sees that although Patricia has finally gotten acceptance, she struggled because Franco’s ideals were present. Patricia knew that it wouldn’t be easy to move to another country and assimilate but she felt that it was her sole responsibility to do whatever it takes to provide a better life for her and her children. In a study conducted in Spain, “Women, Immigration And Entrepreneurship In Spain: A Confluence Of Debates In The Face Of A Complex Reality." states, “...the need to be good wives, housewives, daughters and mothers, to improve the living standard of their families and to guarantee the present and future wellbeing of their children and to sacrifice to a certain extent everything related to education and personal ambitions in favour of their children and their family’s well being”
