INTRODUCTION
Throughout the ages, Mankind has always had a fascination with the concept of the tablet as a medium for storing, communicating and computing information; right down from the ancient clay tablets, that were used especially for writing in cuneiform, throughout the Bronze Age and well into the Iron Age, to the early tablet computers of the 1950s to 1990s with their associated special operating software that were really examples of pen computing technology commonly referred to as PDAs, right up to our modern day unimaginably powerful PC tablets (preceding the smart phone) that have come to dominate the fast paced technologically forward world we inhabit today. We will have peak into the universe of the modern PC tablet and the impact it’s had in the world today especially the modern business environment. In order to do this, we must separate the product from the concept to get an in-depth analysis of what lies underneath the “hood” of your modern computer tablet.
First a basic comparison of the market’s 3 main operating systems and their respective tablets. | Ipad Air | Microsoft surface | Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 | FEATURES | | | | Operating System | iOS 7 | Windows 8.1 | Android 4.2 | Battery Life | 10 hours | 11 hours | 10 | Bluetooth | | | | HARDWARE | | | | Processor Speed | 1.3GHz | 1.7GHz | 1.6GHz | Storage | 16 / 32 / 64 / 128GB | 64 / 128 / 256 / 512GB | 16GB | RAM | 1GB | 8GB | 1GB | Built-in Speaker | | | | Built-in Microphone | | | | DISPLAY | | | | Screen Size (inches) | 9.7 | 10.6 | 10.1 | Screen Resolution | 2048 x 1536 | 1920 x 1080 | 1280 x 800 | Weight (pounds) | 1 | 2.0 | 1.25 | COMMUNICATION | | | | Wi-Fi | | | | Integrated Mobile Broad | | | |

Ipad Air
This being the fifth in the line of ipads released by Apple Inc., one could be forgiven for assuming there isn’t much improvement from its predecessors, for one would be wrong. This sleek child of Apple is small, light, incredibly powerful and has an amazing screen- the first attributes a tablet should have and be. When one takes a look under the hood, this baby packs a punch too. IOs7 operating system is the latest from Apple and comes with a number of preinstalled apps from Apple, and while you can download alternative apps to perform their functions. There are several advanced features available on this device too, including AirPlay. AirPlay lets you wirelessly connect your iPad to an HDTV so you can view your desktop on a larger screen. With a battery life of 10 hours, optional storage capacity of 16, 32, 64 and 128 gigabytes and all the usual specs like Bluetooth, wifi, integrated mobile broadband, built-in speaker and microphone, this latest from one of the big boys of tablet makers is definitely one of the heavy weights market and can quite rightly be considered the best tablets from Apple Inc.
With that said, all is not plain sailing and there are a few cons to be aware with the Ipad air. First off, the price. At £399 with most retailers is still an issue for many. The Ipad air’s extra speed is not obvious in general use. On aesthetics, the screen’s “plasticky” feel is not a favorite with many. All in all, these are minor issues for what is generally a very good computer tablet.

Microsoft surface
At first glance, the Microsoft surface scores high specs wise, but as the saying goes- the devil is in the details. The Microsoft surface boasts a distinctive design, helped by those unmistakable keyboard covers, enjoys a 10.6-inch widescreen display, and runs a version of the most popular operating system on the planet – Windows. The Windows operating system comes with Office Home preinstalled, which contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Windows Mail and more to keep you productive. This operating system allows you to easily transition from one application to the next. This multitasking ability is relatively new to tablets and will increase your productivity. The keyboard cover is functional, a generally great build quality wise that’s comes with a kick-stand and expandable storage. The mechanics of the kickstand are beautifully simple. The bottom half of the back of the tablet casing flicks out to create a stand, turning the device into a pseudo-laptop when used with one of the keyboards. With a battery life of 11 hours the Surface stands out from the other two tablets as a nifty computer that dares to be both a tablet and a laptop replacement that lets you work on planes, trains and anywhere between. As if that’s not enough, the Microsoft surface can be used as PC you can plug into a monitor and use in your (home) office. "Surface represents a great value tablet that will get stronger with time, so if you're looking for a superb all-round Windows tablet which can double as a work machine, with bags of potential and head-turning appeal, then Surface should be high on your list." (Stables, 2013). But is all it takes, quiet simply – no. The Microsoft surface falls short on a few vital issues. First off, the Surface has a lower-resolution screen than its competitors and, combined with a sluggish graphical performance that will leave one more dizzy than appreciative. A very shallow app store, and price wise, the Microsoft Surface is still quiet dear at £399 -£541.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
The Samsung Galaxy tab 3, as is aptly named, is the third computer tablet release from South Korean multinational electronics company Samsung. It is an upgrade from its predecessor the Tab 2 and at £215 to £300, this makes it the tablet amongst the 3 that offers good value for money. So straight away the Tab 3 jumps ahead in price comparison, but money isn’t everything.
Since the first Samsung Galaxy Tab hit the market, it's been a huge contender with the IPad. The Galaxy tab 3 runs the Android 4.2 Jellybean OS, which is designed for tablets, and even runs Adobe Flash. For those familiar with the Samsung smartphones, the first thing that you'll notice about Samsung tablets is that they are basically your smartphone on a larger scale. The layout, OS, app store and more will be simple to use because you're already familiar with them. Even if you're not accustomed to Android, you'll soon realize how simple and straightforward the Android OS is to use. The Galaxy tab 3 comes with a 10.1 inch widescreen display, a 1.6GHz processor and plenty of power to run smoothly over a wide variety of applications, but it could be faster. (K, 2014). One clear advantage the Galaxy tab 3 has is that it will run Adobe Flash, a feature notably missing from the IPad and most other tablets. Since so many webpages use Flash, this can be important for those that like to browse and would prefer smoother surfing experience.

BUSINESS’ PERFECT PARTNER
Like many new technologies, the tablet has entered our lives so quickly, and assumed such a prominent place, that we cannot help but notice the impact it’s had and will continue to have in our lives as the human race. Sales of tablet computers have exploded in recent years, with good reason: they're the perfect devices for students and sofa surfers alike. But they're not just for casual use. Tablets are also superbly powerful business tools, which is why more and more businesses are turning to tablets for their everyday IT needs. By 2016, 30% of all enterprise end-user mobile computing devices will be tablets, and corporate purchases will account for 18% of the global tablet market (Marshall, 2013).

The Procter & Gamble Company - Innovating on the everyday with iPhone and iPad.
From household cleaning supplies to personal care products, Procter & Gamble touches the lives of 65% of the people on Earth. P&G’s history includes innovations like Ivory soap, Pampers, Tide, and the first fluoride toothpaste, Crest. More than 175 years after its foundation, the company continues to expand its business using two other groundbreaking products: iPhone and iPad.
An App for Everything
To support its teams around the globe, P&G has developed more than 50 custom iOS apps. “We have over 25,000 iPhone and iPad devices across all functions,” says Jim Fortner, VP of IT Development, Operations, and Architecture. “We’ve found the iOS platform to be very secure and reliable. And the development process is pretty straightforward; we can turn apps around in four to six weeks” (Fregolle, 2014).
Key apps at P&G include an iFactBook for executives, which presents real-time business metrics; PeopleFinder, an employee directory; and a suite of tools to help P&G’s sales team engage with storeowners and drive sales. These customer business development apps also help monitor sales performance and consumer insights worldwide. “iPad enables sales managers to manage their reps and monitor product performance in stores,” Ding says. “Our salespeople use iPad to present our products to customers. We can see product displays on each store’s shelves, so if a product is selling better than anticipated, we can increase supply to avoid going out of stock.” (Fregolle, 2014)

IOS for the Future
With iPhone, iPad, and custom business apps in hand, P&G is well positioned for its next era of innovation. “What we do with our brands is improve people’s lives every single day,” Fregolle notes. “We put innovation at the forefront in creating and distributing superior products. iPad and iPhone have enabled us to connect streams of data, eliminate a lot of paper — and most importantly, spend more time with our customers.”
Final word
Tablets aren’t going away. Of course, none of this means that the desktop or notebook will disappear overnight and they will both still have useful niches. And it could be decades before the real impact emerges. But I'm pretty convinced that after 50 years of waiting, tablets are here to stay. In conclusion, the computer tablet appeal is obvious: by combining flexibility, convenience, ease of use and security in perfectly portable packages, tablets give businesses the power to do more.

Tablet Computers

...Paper GS 1140 5 January, 2014 Paradigm Shift INTRODUCTION Tablet computers are small, thin, and convenient computers that will fit in the palm of your hand. They can be used for games, news, or work. They vary in size from the smaller 7 inch to the larger 17 inch models. The definition of a tablet computer from the pc-mag website is a general-purpose computer contained in a single panel. Its distinguishing characteristic is the use of a touch screen as the input device. Modern tablets are operated by fingers, and a stylus is an option, whereas earlier tablets required a stylus. (pcmag, 2013) SUMMARY OF KEY FINDINGS One impact of tablet technology is the use in education. I feel that information from any school book, dictionary, or encyclopedia at your fingers is a useful tool to have in education. The bulkiness of school books is non-existent with a tablet computer. I think it can be used as a powerful learning tool in and out of the classroom. Another impact of tablet technology would be in the workplace. You could have access to spreadsheets or inventory results at the palm of your hand. Access to these things could make your job a lot easier and more productive. Stopping work to look up information on a desktop would be irrelevant with a tablet on your person. Looking up the information on the fly would be a great time saver. Tablet technology in the medical field is another great way to utilize tablet computers portability. A physician could use it in office visits...

Deshpande Department of Pharmaceutics, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS University, S.S. Nagar, Mysore-15, Karnataka, India Bi-layer tablets have been developed to achieve controlled delivery of different drugs with pre-defined release profiles. In the last decade, interest in developing a combination of two or more Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) in a single dosage form (bilayer tablet) has increased in the pharmaceutical industry, promoting patient convenience and compliance. Bilayer tablets can be a primary option to avoid chemical incompatibilities between API by physical separation, and to enable the development of different drug release profiles (immediate release with extended release). Despite their advantages, due to the use of different materials and complex geometric boundaries between the adjacent layers, the mechanical structures of this drug delivery system have become quite intricate, requiring complicated tablet architectures as well as patient-friendly. Bilayer tablets offer definite advantages over...

Technology in Education

...such as tablets are more helpful than textbooks schools get each year. Harcourt (n.d.) used a "digital version of the Algebra 1 textbook for Apple's iPad in California's Riverside Unified School District." (para. 10) Students had a 20% higher test score using the digital version than the printed textbooks. Each year school's spend about $7 billion on out of date printed textbooks. By them switching to tablets, schools could save about $3 billion. So why do schools not want to make the change? Textbooks are usually seven to ten years out of date when schools buy them. Therefore, the students are not getting the most current information they need to learn. With tablets, students and teachers would be able to stay up to date with all and any information they need. Tablets are much lighter than print textbooks. They can hold hundreds of textbooks, save the environment by lowering the amount of printing, increase student interactivity, and creativity, and that digital textbooks are cheaper than print textbook. “…in 2006, the U.S. book industry consumed approximately 30 million trees and had a carbon footprint equivalent to 12.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, or 8.85 pounds per book sold.” (Green Press Initiative and the Book Industry Study Group. 2008) Paper books can be recycled, though at this point not much data is available regarding the percentage of books that are recycled at the end of their useful life. “81 percent of K-12 teachers believe that tablets enrich classroom...

Table of contents: * Understanding consumer behaviour * Advantages * Disadvantages * Conclusion * Appendix Understanding consumer behaviour Studying consumer behaviour helps a company to set up its goals and marketing strategies. To understand a consumer’s psychology in order to improve an organisation’s marketing tactics is essential; it helps firms and organisations to study the behaviours, choices and needs clients make to consume a product or service. Hawkins (2007, pg.22) stated, “The consumer decision process intervenes between the marketing strategy and the outcomes. That is, the outcomes of the firms marketing strategy is determined by its interaction with the consumer decision process. The firm can only succeed if consumers see a need that its product can solve, become aware of the product and its capabilities, decide that it is the best available solution, proceed to buy it and become satisfied with the result of the purchase.” Marketers use a number of ways to analyse consumer behaviour including behavioural, emotional and cognitive. Kumar (2009, pg. 181) proposed that it is very important to keep the values, beliefs and morals of customers in mind. Unit 1: Paradigm Gs1140

...Unit 1: Paradigm Shift Tablets The technology I chose to write about is fairly new. While it has not been around as long as maybe Televisions or Radios, it has definitely made a huge impact on our lives today. I chose to write about Tablets and how they started and where they could go in the future. The first Tablet was not in fact created by Apple. Apple just took the idea and vastly improved upon it. The first tablet was actually introduced in 1987 with the Linus Write-Top which was essentially a tablet that had handwriting recognition software. Basically you could hand-write on it and the tablet could read it. The first tablet computer was introduced in 1989 by Jeff Hawkins, the founder of Palm Computing. It was called the GridPad, and it ran MS-DOS though the idea was mostly ignored by the general public. A few other attempts were made through the years. Apple branched off and came out with the Newton MessagePad in 1993 which wasn’t really aimed at replacing the home PC, but more of a Personal Digital Assistant or PDA. Then in 2000, Microsoft released its first tablet computer, and later in 2002 the Microsoft XP tablet was released which ran its own version of Windows XP. Then the market for tablets really skyrocketed when Apple released the iPad in 2010. It had a touchscreen which was very popular on the iPad Touch and the iPhone. This created a huge market for tablets which got all sorts of companies trying to release their own. For example the Samsung Galaxy Tab...
