James Bond Identity

The Bond franchise over the years has solidified MI6 agent James Bond as one of the most iconic characters in film. Since his inception, the secret agent has been depicted as a white man who has a talent for killing people, alcohol, and dominating women. It’s hard to separate these defining characteristics from the Bond we’ve grown to know over the years. Recently however, there has been speculation that Bond may be undergoing a major change to his identity.
There is some speculation that the next Bond may be casted as a Black actor or a female actress. This comes as a surprise to some fans of the series, as the dominant narrative of James Bond frames him specifically as a white man. Some people believe the time has come to update Bond, while …show more content…
Her incompetence as an agent is highlighted when she tells Bond that she is only on her second assignment, after a failed assignment with MI6 agent Baines. She nearly kills Bond by mistake, by attempting to sneak into his rom as “Ms. Bond.” The role that agent Carver played is minimal, as she is quickly seduced by Bond and killed off.
In the video where comedian Trevor Noah humors the possibility of Idris Elba playing Bond, he jokingly pokes at those who claim Bond cannot be Black because of his “heritage” and how he would stand out as a black Spy. While his stand up comedy is fantastic, it does reveal a potential truth sprinkled in his humor. Throughout the franchise the amount of colored MI6 agents is seldom. I believe this is intentional by the writers of the films.
There are considerable benefits for creating a Bond with the privileges of being a white man. From a production standpoint, having Bond check all the privilege boxes makes writing for him easier. It allows the writing to be less constricted and allows the writers room to breathe when creating a …show more content…
The relationship between Bond being so dominant towards woman, and for virtually every women to be subordinate towards Bond can be seen from the first movie Dr. No. There are countless examples of women essentially being whatever the men wanted them to be, especially in the earlier films.
Bond girls could be seen as either punching bags, sex objects, or a combination of the two. One of the most infamous examples to me was in Goldfinger, when Bond slapped one of the girls on the buttocks to leave as he had “man talk” to attend to. Another set of scenes in Her Majesty’s Secret Service, showed Tracy Bond being hit by multiple men including Bond and her father. In the film Live and Let Die, bond girl Solitaire is portrayed as being powerless and easily influenced by men like Bond and villain Dr. Kannaga.
Fortunately, in the more contemporary Bond films, that has change somewhat by providing the women roles with more significant roles and of greater voice. In the 2002 movie Die Another Day, Halle Berry portrays a legitimate sidekick to Bond as agent Jinx. The role of Moneypenny has evolved from harmless flirt, to MI6 agent in the film

Launching of Bmw Z3 Roadster -Case Study Report

...Z3 roadster, a car that revolutionized and rejuvenated the boring American motor industry back in the mid 1990's. The case talks about the successful first phase launch of this new drop top beauty. It focuses on the customers and how they suddenly picked up the marketing cues and stories depicted by the various promotional parties that were led by James McDowell, BMW's marketing vice president. This was a marketing campaign that gained a lot of merit and success by using unconventional promotion methods to put their product out into the public. The primary methods tried to stay away from the usual billboards and print media. Rather, the marketing teams decided to take the car into the new world of cinema and multimedia, where sound, sight, video and technology would promote the car during a time of accelerated IT growth. The team at BMW decided that since the Z3 was a new unconventional' car, it also required equal unconventional marketing methods to match its identity. The BMW Z3 was a lifestyle car and what better way to put this idea forward than by releasing it alongside the passionate and stylish gadget man himself, 007 James Bond; exposed through the new technological gateways of the internet and the movies. This paper will try and look deeper into this case of BMW's successful Z3 launch and whether or not they will be able to match the enthusiasm in the second phase of the vehicle's launch. PROBLEM STATEMENT...

Bmw Z3 Roadster

...9-597-002 REV: JANUARY 8, 2002 SUSAN FOURNIER ROBERT J. DOLAN Launching the BMW Z3 Roadster January 1996 marked the beginning of Phase II of BMW of North America Inc.’s Z3 roadster introduction. Phase I had centered on the placement of the new $28,750 two-seat convertible in the James Bond hit movie, GoldenEye, which premiered several months earlier. While not yet critically evaluated, results of the “out-of-the-box” pre-launch campaign appeared very positive: word-ofmouth concerning the Z3 and the James Bond cross-promotion were favorable, and product orders far exceeded BMW’s initial expectations. The challenge now was to design a marketing program that would sustain product excitement until dealer product availability beginning in March. Phase II planning had to be undertaken within the context of other important events in the BMW product family: (1) the April launch of the redesigned 5-Series; and (2) the company’s role as “official international automotive sponsor” of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games, which would begin in earnest with the Olympic Torch Relay 5-Series event in June. While these other elements of the BMW product family clearly impacted the Z3, the marketing approach and ultimate results for the Z3 would influence the whole BMW operation in the United States. Dr. Helmut Panke, Chairman and CEO of BMW (U.S.) Holding Corp. since 1993, noted that the Z3 was destined to be “the first BMW not made by mythical little creatures in the Bavarian woods. This car...

Cause for Alarm Spy Fiction

...Spies have many predicaments that arise different issues in their lives. Such issues as personal life issues, ability to trust, and loyalty and betrayal problems play a huge part in the way a spy can carry on their lives. Focusing in on the issues regarding loyalty and betrayal, we can see that in the novel, “Cause for Alarm” by Eric Ambler, the main character Nick Marlow Encounters many problems regarding these spy problems. Marlow is involved in a few different parties and with the variety of involvement comes with vast issues regarding who and what he is actually loyal to, and whom he is betraying in regards to his actions that he takes throughout the novel. One of the early loyalty issues we come across through this novel is when Marlow decides to take the job of going to Italy and selling the machine parts to the enemies of his home country of England. To some it would be viewed as betraying your country by aiding the enemy with their munitions processing. By the Italian government have a huge hand in buying Marlow’s product, he is helping out the enemy and he is in a large state of betrayal. Marlow insists that by doing what he is doing is just his job, and he has no moral or political positioning in what he does, just simply that he is doing it because he is doing what his employer has asked him to do. Marlow states his loyalty to his employer by saying “ My company purchases my loyalty by paying me to represent it,”(95) This suggests that Marlow is bluntly showing...

Online Tests, Fact or Fiction

...Online Tests, Fact or Fiction? A simple test online can tell you a lot about yourself these days. Worried about your health? You can simply go online and plug your symptoms into a search engine and come up with more than one diagnosis. The internet and simple placement tests can tell you a lot (or very little depending on how you see it) about your personality, your I.Q., and even if you would make a good James Bond. Are these tests legit? Can you really rely on an online test to tell you about yourself? That is something I explored going forward with two separate learning tests from online sources. I first started with the Index of learning styles (Felder & Soloman, n.d.) quiz online. This test asked questions about my habits and had several outcomes based on how I answered the questions. I found this test to be a bit mind boggling. It was more complex than it needed to be in my opinion. It arranged the results in 4 categories; active and reflective learners, sensing and intuitive learners, visual and verbal learners, sequential and global learners.(Felder & Soloman, n.d.) Based on the results from the questions I answered I was then told which end of the spectrum I ended up on for each category. My scores were neutral in both the 'active and reflective learners' and 'sequential and global learners' categories. I scored as more sensing and more visual in the two remaining categories. I find these results to be accurate. According to Felder and Soloman sensors like learning...

Textual Analysis

...Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), as she is shown doing fieldwork alongside Bond (Daniel Craig) at the start of the film. Of course like any other Bond film, Skyfall also includes women who 007 will form a ‘relationship’ with (normally ending in their demise). I will be discussing if women in Skyfall are shown in a stereotypical and perhaps borderline sexiest way. My other choice of film, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol also stars female characters, although they have a more predominant role throughout the film then Skyfall. One of Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) team members is Jane (Paula Patton) and she is one of the main leading characters. Till around halfway in the film, a primary antagonist is Sabine Moreau (Lea Seydoux). It could still be said that these two characters, despite having a big role within the film, have been somewhat subjected to being portrayed in an idealistic way of women throughout the film. Skyfall is the 23rd instalment in the 007 franchises and was released on October 23th 2012. A new director on the Bond scene directed it: Sam Mendes, but Eon Productions produced it, which has been the company responsible for all of the other Bond movies in the past. It sees the return of Daniel Craig as James Bond making it his third 007 film since his debut in Casino Royale (2006). Judi Dench continues her role of M and Javier Bardem takes the reins of the villain in Skyfall as Silva. Bonds secretary/assistant,...

Business Marketing

...Project Report Launching the BMW Z3 Roadster Introduction BMW Z3 is the 1st BMW car which is being manufactured in North America, a market which has contributed only 16% to BMW s revenues. At the same time, the American customer has found itself very difficult to relate itself to a foreign brand. Here lies the challenge for BMW and the marketing efforts behind the Z3 campaign are aimed at changing this perception of the American customer and ingrain BMS s brand image in the hearts of Americans. Phase1 which was not a run of the mill marketing campaign created a huge buzz and was deemed a huge success. The campaign revolved around the placement of the BMW Z3 in the James Bond Movie, GOLDENEYE as Bonds new car. Several other non-traditional elements such as being part of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog, product appearance on the Jay Leno show, and launch at Central Park ensured an out-of-the-box prelaunch. The challenge now is to leverage the buzz and design Phase II marketing strategies which will convert the interest generated into revenues for BMW. Strategic Significance of the Launch The launch is especially significant for BMW because the success of the entire U.S. operations of BMW crucially hinged on it. Moreover, BMW hopes to position the BMW brand firmly in American culture and settle into the hearts and minds of the American public through the launch. It was also meant to promote the vehicle as a cultural icon in America. Further, the launch demonstrates that...

...Star ... JetStar Bond ... James Bond. Anything sounds cool when you say it like Sean Connery. Right? For example, say this out loud in a semi-Scottish accent, "Cards ... Playing Cards." It's even cooler when you see James Bond actually playing with cards. It's as if Bond confirms something we all know. Pasteboards are hip and in style. And while Q hasn't invented anything subversive with fifty-two pieces of paper and two jokers, we can only continue to hope. For now though, let's just relish in the fact that James Bond has featured several different types of cards throughout the illustrious franchise. The aim of this piece isn't to catalog every deck the MI6 agent has ever played with. While that would make for a wonderful article, I'd like to discuss one deck in particular that was...

Loyalty In Goldeneye

...Goldeneye was created post the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the civil war, which was after WW II. While viewing this film, a theme that oddly stood out to me and the manner it was used in was quite interesting was Loyalty. Loyalty was a huge theme in Goldeneye. Trevelyan for instance was a part of the west where he then betrayed the west and worked for the east for his own financial gain, which he is an ideal character hence this same behavior behind the Yalta agreements occurred during the wars. Pre- corruption from Trevelyan, the Berlin wall was knocked down where soviets then became hopeless and started to have disbelief for communist values. This began the disloyalty by multiple people to preserve their own interests. During the...

Mr. King

...1964 Aston Martin DB5, Goldfinger James Bond's legacy of famous cars and far-out gadgets can be traced back from one car — the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 007 driven in Goldfinger and Thunderball. Without any Bond spy modifications, the Aston Martin DB5 is a work of art. But it's the special effects that have made this car quite possibly the most beloved movie car of all time. The long list of cool tricks included ram bumper, machine guns, ejector seat, smoke screen, oil-slick sprayer and more. Looking back on the Aston from today's perspective, the most interesting feature may be the map screen in Bond's car, which foreshadowed today's navigation systems. So just how influential and significant is the original Bond car? One of the few Astons used in those movies sold last year for a whopping $4.6 million. 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, Smokey and the Bandit When Smokey and the Bandit director Hal Needham, chose a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am to star in his movie alongside Burt Reynolds and Sally Field, he couldn't have predicted the impact that car would have on America. The Trans Am actually looked more or less the same for more than a half decade before the film debuted. But that didn't matter. When audiences saw that Trans Am slide around corners, leap over broken bridges and evade Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) for hundreds of miles, they wanted a black and gold T/A in their garage. After the movie debuted, sales leapt by about 30,000 cars from 1977 to 1978 and by another...

Skyfall Review

...Just when I thought the James Bond films were going to come to an all-but satisfying conclusion, Skyfall provided what I thought Quantum of Solace didn’t — depth. In Skyfall the mood and style was much different to that of the previous films. Certainly an opening scene that explodes as only a Bond film can, Bond continues with his ability to operate every device and machine known to man. This time, however, it’s a caterpillar on a moving train. This time around in Skyfall, we experience a different tone. It’s deeper because we experience an opportunity to see deeply into the characters. Instead of just knowing that James Bond is an international man of mystery, we see shades of him we’ve never seen before. A glimpse to what makes up his chemistry rather than his signature dry martini, Aston Martin and his classic sexual mistress he seems to encounter so frequently. At the same time, we see the major development and texture we can practically feel with M, played by Judi Dench and Silva, played by Javier Bardem. M is practically the second-leading character, as we see some skeletons ruffled up out of the closet while she stares termination and retirement in the face answering to her boss, Mallory, who’s played brilliantly quiet by Ralph Fiennes. Pieces of the Dark Knight echoed through the movie in my mind. The color set the tone. Vivid and bright at times in Shanghai, while contrastingly gray and dull in Scotland. The main point I make when referring to the...

The Bond Case

...CASE I. “The Bond Case” • Point of View The issues that will be brought up and analyzed in this case will be from Tim Dalton’s point of view. Tim Dalton is the head of quality control of James Manufacturing. • Problem Definition James manufacturing has guaranteed Bond Products that their order of small machines will be delivered to them by the tenth of the month. However, on the eight of the month, Tim Dalton, head of quality control of James manufacturing, found out that the new component of the machine is in short supply. Tim Dalton could not just simply ask Bond Products to extend the deadline since the delivery has already been extended. The problem encountered in this case is the shortage of the new component of the small machines being ordered by Bond Products. Bond Products insisted that the specified date must be met by James manufacturing. Being the head of quality control, Tim Dalton must make sure that the orders to be delivered will be of high quality. • Objectives for Solving the Problem The objective of this case analysis is to recommend a sound alternative for Tim Dalton. The recommendation to be accomplished should be sound and justifiable to both James Manufacturing and Bond products. Moreover, the recommendation should result to a profit gain by James Manufacturing while satisfying the demand of Bond Products. • Issues to Consider There are two issues to be considered in this case. First, Tim Dalton could still meet the deadline by using the...
