...You're hoping for a nice, quiet afternoon. Your toddler finally settled down for a nap and your oldest is happily attending first standard. However, you receive a phone call from the school. "So much for happily attending school," you sigh after hearing the news. Your child was just sent in from recess for fighting. When you pick him up, he explains that he just couldn't help it. He got mad because Rohit said he was ugly. You've taught him that fighting is wrong, but you've also taught him that it is wrong to call other people names or to do things that would make them feel bad. But what if someone does something to make him feel bad? How should he handle his anger? Answering that question may seem difficult for a parent. Your child is bombarded with messages teaching violence as the way to handle anger, but you want him to be better than that. Fighting is not the way to express displeasure. When teaching him how to handle anger, it is vital that you don't unconsciously teach him that anger is wrong. Your child must learn that all of his feelings are normal, acceptable, and universally experienced. Even anger. He may think that because he is angry, he is a bad person. Feeling a certain way does not make him good or bad. The only thing that will make your child's emotions good or bad is the way they are handled. Children Expressing Anger Anger is the most difficult emotion to handle, especially for young children. Your child is just beginning to understand and label the...

...First one must dice up an onion. After dicing up your onion bring a, size of your choice, cooking pot to medium heat and pour the diced onion into the pot along with the stick of butter. Once the butter is melted and the diced up onion comes to a clear color it is now time to pour the one pint of half and half into the pot. Then you need to add the pound of Velveeta cheese. I recommend that one cuts the pound of Velveeta cheese into chunks before putting it into the pot to cook so that it will be easier for the cheese to melt. If one wishes to add chicken, crawfish or shrimp they can. All one must do is cook it in a medium frying pan and add to the alfredo sauce once it is done cooking. While the creamy alfredo sauce is cooking one needs to start boiling the noodles. Bring a medium size pot to the stove with 6 cups of water to a boil. After water starts boiling add the noodles. Let the noodles cook for seven minutes. Once your noodles are done cooking pour them into the creamy alfredo...

The slogan underlines the idea that these people wear their sunglasses [K], they feel better about themselves. One might even believe that when this involves physical attributes, the glasses are so exceptional that they can divert the eyes of other failure...

...central theme of the denouncement of God because of the death of a loved one is seen through the tone and imagery of the poem. The tone of the poem is depressing and remorseful as seen through the diction and attitude the speaker gives. In the beginning stanza, the reader is aware that a death has just occurred, “Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come,” (l 4). This understanding, as well as the desire to stop or prevent noise alerts the reader that the poem is going to be depressing. However, the poem involves two deaths instead of one, “Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead/ Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,” (l 5-6). The capitalization of the words “He Is Dead” grasps the reader’s attention. He is generally capitalized when referring to God without saying His name. Also, the fact that it contrasts to the popular statement “He Is Risen” gives light on the statement’s connotation. Other connotations that arise in the poem are when the speaker is stating what the dead meant to him/her, “He was my North, my South, my East and West,/ My working week and my Sunday rest, /My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song,/ I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong,” (l 9-12). The remark that the dead man was everywhere to the speaker resembles the idea that God is everywhere. The statement that the deceased was the speaker’s Sunday rest as well as his/her working week also gives note to religious concepts. The idea that one should rest on Sundays, the Sabbath, as...

...In the Bible the word mercy can mean loving kindness, to be merciful and to have compassion. “Where mercy, love, and pity dwell, there God is dwelling too.” William Blake In the Old Testament there are two Hebrew words for mercy. First there is the word hesed, which means “steadfast love, covenant love”. According to the Catholic Biblical scholar John L. Mckenzie, the word hesed is used in connection with other words…such as hesed-emet (steadfast, dependable love), hesed-sedekah (righteous, holy love), and hesed-yesua (rescuing, saving love).” In the Old Testament the word hesed is used in connection with covenant that God established with Israel. This covenant was, on God’s part, a gift of and grace for Israel. God showed his loving kindness to Israel, his covenant people. No matter the continual rebelliousness of Israel God showed mercy to Israel. For this reason the meaning of the word mercy includes forgiveness as a main element in God’s determined faithfulness to his part of the covenant he had with Israel. “For the Lord thy God is a merciful God; he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them” (Deuteronomy 4:31). In the New Testament the Greek word for mercy is eleos. This translates to loving kindness and tender compassion. It refers to the merciful love of God that he will pour out upon his children. In the new covenant the mercy of God is seen in the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus’s...

...The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her. ~Author Unknown A mother holds perhaps, the most important place in a child's life. The loss of a mother, then is perhaps the biggest loss anyone has to deal with. Unfortunately, the death of a parent is something most children have to see and experience. While some people naturally hold the capacity to endure such a heavy loss, for some it is indeed a tough period to get through. No matter what kind of person the sufferer is, a few words of sympathy from close ones are always comforting. With the knowledge that there is someone who shares the grief, and is there for support in such trying times, indeed gives the sufferer the strength and courage to pull through. For most of you, deciding what to say when a person loses her/his mother is difficult, because it is an extremely sensitive time and you don't want to say anything that will deepen the grief of the sufferer. As such, you may take a look at these words of sympathy that may help ease the pain arising from the loss of such an important figure in one's life, and utilize them to make your close one, who is grieving the loss of her/his mother, feel comforted. Words of Condolence For the Loss of a Mother No words of condolence you put together can heal a person grieving the loss of her/his mother. ..."Good day." I nod to the guns the guards are holding in an X in front of the entrance, signaling for them to let me pass. I need to get into that tent. Today is the day. Now or never. "No can do miss 'Lizabeth. The Emperor doesn't want no one in there." replies the broad guard, whom I believe is called Richard. Oh no, I need to get in there, surely if I don't succeed His Majesty the King of England will have me hanged. I was already nervous enough, but now I might not even be able to get in there and do my duty? "Surely you are mistaken," I begin, trying not to let my fake french accent waver, "The Emperor asked me to come serve tea for him and his officers at noon. Am I mistaken? I'm sure that the clock said noon..." I added the bit about...

...into somebody’s pain for the loss of a loved one. The first four lines are an interesting beginning to such a poem: Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. The author uses an interesting technique to open this poem. He is telling everything to quiet down, and to listen, as the funeral proceeds to happen. End rhyme is used in all four lines, in the form of two couplets. The rhyme correlates with this poem well because it’s also a song, and it runs off the tongue nicely. The examples of things that need to be silenced, like the clocks, the barking dogs, and the telephones, are interesting things to focus on. It opens up that this funeral is a great loss, and all life must pause while the mourners come. Even when I read the first simple stanza, I feel that the tone quality is solemn, when it may not even mean to be. As the poem progresses, it keeps focusing on how the world must fall to this “funeral” mode. The point of view person of this poem is telling the world to put all its attention on this funeral. An odd thing that stood out to me is these lines: Let the airplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead I was confused reading this because it’s stated literally, like there is actually...

...dishes. I personally love raviolis and am going to tell you how to make them from scratch. You will need one cup of all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling dough, one teaspoon of olive or vegetable oil, one pound shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese, half pound of ground beef, one tablespoon of minced garlic, one tablespoon minced fresh parsley, salt, ground pepper, six eggs, one lightly beaten for egg wash, one stick of butter, two cups Italian breadcrumbs, 1/8 cup grated Parmesan, and canola oil, for frying. The first step is to make the dough. Sift the flour and a pinch of salt in a bowl. That way, there will be no clumps in the dough. Then, whisk together two eggs, one teaspoon of oil, and two tablespoons water in a separate bowl so they can mix smoothly together before adding it to the flour. Next, pour the flour mixture onto a clean work surface, like a table or counter, and form a small well in the center. This way, nothing will be accidently added to the mixture. Pour half of the egg mixture into the well and, using a fork, begin to incorporate the flour into the egg mixture. That way, none of the mixture will fall onto the floor or all over the surface. Once absorbed, incorporate the reaming egg mixture and knead by hand until all of the liquid is absorbed, five to six minutes, flouring your work surface as needed to ensure the dough doesn’t stick. It will become moist and spread. Lastly, roll the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest in the refrigerator...

They were shallow at first, and short, like claw marks made by a desperate cat that wanted to hide under the front porch. Cutting pain was a different flavor of hurt. It made it easier not to think about having my body and my family and my life stolen, made it easier not to care.... (166) * Yes, I’d love to tell you that Cassie’s voice is on the phone in my purse and she is haunting me because I let her die. If I do, you’ll give me even more drugs. ...I. Introduction | A. Attention Material: What comes to mind when you see candles? We associate candles with celebrations (like Christmas or birthdays) or special occasions. Candles date back to the Ancient Egyptians who are credited with making the first candles. They used torches made by soaking the spongy core of reeds in melted tallow (National Candle Association: History of Candlemaking, p. 1). | B. Tie to the audience: I’m sure that all of us at some point have used candles for celebrations, romantic experiences, or for just plain decoration. The great part about making your own candles is that they are inexpensive to make and you shape the wax into something special. What could be more special than to make someone you love a homemade gift? | C. Credibility material: Two years ago, I made candles for decoration and also for people to purchase during a medieval Madrigal dinner production that our A Cappella choir put on. I have also made candles since then as a part of my church youth group around the Christmas season. | D. Preview: I will explain three basic things which include how to go about finding the right materials, how to melt the wax, and how to make a molded ice-cube candle. | [Transition: Let’s start by doing the most important thing, which is to find all of the materials, and tools needed to make candles.] | II.
