...We’re Talking Judith Mullins Marketing Management 522 Dr. James Hess DeVry University 1.0 Executive Summary The adolescent years can be very challenging for some teenagers and their families. We’re Talking is a nonprofit agency providing mentoring programs for young men and women in South Nashville in Davidson County. While adolescence can be an emotionally intense, stormy phase for virtually all teenagers, sometimes a teen's struggles require special intervention. Many teens struggle with issues related to mental health, family relationships, friends, school performance, substance abuse, sexuality, and other high-risk behaviors. (HelpStartsHere,2005) This program will form partnerships with local school districts, community centers, churches and the juvenile court systems. We’re Talking’s goal is to offer a sense of security to young people that will promote friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reaffirm a sense of hope in the future. It is these through personal relationships that a sense of individual responsibility can be reestablished that will give the youth desire to follow through on a path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment (Palo Alto Medical Foundation, 2013). 2.0 Situation Analysis We’re Talking was founded 15 months ago by three women who were looking to make a difference in the lives of young men and women. This is what makes Artemisia Gentileschi an icon of Feminist art.Her depictions of famous scenes differ greatly from men’s. In her first signed painting, Susanna and the Elders depicts the story of a young woman being sexually harassed by the elders in her community. While, many of the male artists at this time depicted the woman as being coy...

...wrong. We must try and answer the question, is there really such a thing as an absolute right or wrong? If so, who decides what’s right vs. wrong, and can anything we do or say against another be held against us? In order to try and find the answers to these simple questions we must understand the essences of the term crime. According to the dictionary, crime is an act or action of a negligence nature that is deemed harmful or hurtful to the public, be it voluntary or involuntary, as in the case of a drunk driver hitting an innocent bystander could possible end in manslaughter charges being leveled against the drunk driver. Because the drivers actions could have caused serious or even deadly consequences for the victim who was hit while standing on a corner, crossing a street, or on his way home from a long hard day’s work, even if the driver does not leave the scene of the incident, because the action was negligence in nature and could have been detrimental to the victim, this could be considered a crime. Another example of wrongdoing or sinful actions would be that of a person, committing a seemly harmless act against mankind such as exposing himself in public. Although not harmful in a sense that would cause another party physical harm, it is still considered a senseless and foolish or shameful act by which the public is engaged involuntary in witnessing the insulting or abusive nature of an seriously offensive person, who’s goal or aim was to transgress the rights...

...a book that celebrated our life on the internet and I was about to be on the cover of Wired magazine. In those heady days, we were experimenting with chat rooms and online virtual communities. We were exploring different aspects of ourselves. And then we unplugged. I was excited. And, as a psychologist, what excited me most was the idea that we would use what we learned in the virtual world about ourselves, about our identity, to live better lives in the real world. Now fast-forward to 2012. I'm back here on the TED stage again. My daughter's 20. She's a college student. She sleeps with her cellphone, so do I. And I've just written a new book, but this time it's not one that will get me on the cover of Wired magazine. So what happened? I'm still excited by technology, but I believe, and I'm here to make the case, that we're letting it take us places that we don't want to go. Over the past 15 years, I've studied technologies of mobile communication and I've interviewed hundreds and hundreds of people, young and old, about their plugged in lives. And what I've found is that our little devices, those little devices in our pockets, are so psychologically powerful that they don't only change what we do, they change who we are. Some of the things we do now with our devices are things that, only a few years ago, we would have found odd or disturbing,...

... What Hurts” We’re spending more and more time online and less time out in the real world. But is modern technology really doing us harm? And are we missing out on a lot of important stuff when we hide behind our screens and use a mouse as our mouthpiece? These are some of the important question that arise from reading Jonathan Franzen’s essay, “Liking is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts” from 2011. The 51-year-old author puts our daily internet routines into perspective and forces us to think critically about what we are doing online. But he beats around the bush for a while before he starts presenting his actual message. He thus starts out sharing a personal experience of getting a new smartphone and uses this as a starting point for voicing his concerns. Jonathan Franzen is aware of the danger of scaring off those young readers who might be fed up with older people complaining about the youth of today, “Very probably, you’re sick to death of hearing social media disrespected by cranky 51-year-olds” (ll. 140-142). He therefore catches this young audience’s attention by comparing his relationship to his outdated smartphone to a relationship of romantic nature. He uses familiar expressions like “trust issues”, “accountability issues” and having “outgrown the relationship”. In this way, he seeks to keep in eye level with potential young readers who will...

...enough by our government to not only handle live firearms but end a persons life with said firearm. If our government believes them to be responsible enough for that then they should be responsible enough to consume alcohol. However, that has nothing to do with why Aquinas wouldn‘t agree with following this law. Aquinas believes a law should preserve life and ward off its obstacles. Not for the individual, but for the common good of all people. So I must ask myself, does putting an age limit on alcohol consumption help preserve life and ward off its obstacles for the common good? The answer is no. In no way does telling us when we can and can’t consume alcohol preserve life or ward off obstacles for the common good. When you consume alcohol you are the only one consuming this alcohol. You aren’t forcing anyone else to consume this alcohol. So, if you were to consume too much you would only be effecting yourself. If you were to do something stupid while under the influence you wouldn’t be effecting the population as a whole. As humans, in order to keep the human race going we need to reproduce. To aid in the success of keeping our race alive in well we need to properly raise our offspring and teach them how to reproduce. Consuming alcohol effects this in no way especially when we’re talking in terms of the common good for all people. If I were a father and I were to consume alcohol would it effect reproduction, the ability to raise the young, and teach them reproduction for the community...

Being regarded has an African-American; I feel I get first-person insights on what issues we are steadily faced with has a collective group of people. Although we are a country of fifty states, we’re still a nation that is divided. The many divisions that we face range from political views, religious preferences and social and economically differences. But there is one division that has plagued our nation for almost four hundred years —racial inequality. In regards to division, we see it in every aspect of our daily lives. We experience it in employment, financial status, government dependency,...

...From the day we’re born up until the day we die we’re on a journey. It starts the moment we are conceived. Whether it’s emotional or physical does not matter, those two aspects may help the directions we take. It may not be evident to anyone, a silent battle being fought within our minds. Or it could be clear to everyone, like moving to a new place. Journeys take many forms. Good forms such as when we’re young and we learn to tie our shoelaces, a life skill that we end up dependant on. Or bad forms, somewhere along the lines we may fall ill to a life threatening disease like cancer. Sometimes our Journeys can cause us pain and heartbreak, but those are the things that help us make decisions and move forward, our journeys make us who we are. As soon as we are born we begin our journey. We’re thrust into life without knowing anything but are eventually taught the life skills we need. We are taught how to walk, talk and make the right choices, all very important aspects within our lives. In turn the skills we are taught help us move forward meaning we can learn new things. These new skills help shape the decisions we choose to make. If we didn’t have these skills moving forward would be difficult. Our physical journeys would be a struggle if we weren’t able to talk and our emotional ones would be unhappy if we weren’t able to communicate. In the film look both ways many of the characters are forced to make changes in their lives after going through different eye-opening experiences...

...throughout the world by man people. Brought upon to make people connect to each other; technology is really distancing people away from things. Technology is distancing people away, making people feel lonely, and interrupting the way people connect with others. Technology is constantly been distancing people away. In Alone in the Crowd Mr. Price states “Young men talk about how only a few years ago, their dads used to watch Sunday sports with them and during the station breaks or between plays, they used to chat. Now their fathers are too often checking their email during games. The young men I interview sometimes call it “the BlackBerry zone” when they speak of their fathers’ unavailability.” This goes to show that young men were used to interacting with their fathers’ during the Sunday sports but since technology is frequently being used their “fathers’” don’t have the availability to be hold attention to their sons. Mr. Price also...

...“A Time for Choosing” Ronald Reagan Radio broadcast aired from Los Angeles, California, October 27, 1964 Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you and good evening. The sponsor has been identified, but unlike most television programs, the performer hasn’t been provided with a script. As a matter of fact, I have been permitted to choose my own words and discuss my own ideas regarding the choice that we face in the next few weeks. I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines. Now, one side in this campaign has been telling us that the issues of this election are the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The line has been used, “We’ve never had it so good.” But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn’t something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents out of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector’s share, and yet our government continues to spend 17 million dollars a day more than the government takes in. We haven’t balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We’ve raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don’t own an ounce...

But before I begin, I want to recognize yesterday’s passing of Kader Asmal, and I want everyone here to know that the thoughts and prayers of my family and my country are with all of you as you mourn another of this nation’s great anti-apartheid leaders. As I just said, his generation fought its battles so that today’s young people, all of you, no matter where you come from or what you look like, could have the opportunities to shape your own futures and the futures of this country and this world. And that's why I like to talk with all of you young people, and that's what I want to talk with you about today. ...think they know) and can answer with confidence. Others, like me, have no idea and are constantly bouncing around ideas, never settling. The title “Life Almost Straight” relates to, as teenagers and young adults, how we are nearing the beginnings of our lives and are figuring out how we are going to shape the rest of our lives. Teenagers often have a sort of innocent view of the world, especially before social media. Before we stayed informed of everything going on in the world, we had no idea of all the terrible things happening every day. This is a lot like Charlie Brown in the Peanuts cartoon. He believes that, even though Lucy has shown her true colors many many times, this will be the time that she actually holds the ball still. Charlie Brown has figured out how he thinks life is. He believes that there is good in everything and everyone. While some people may feel the same, others may feel the opposite....

Pip comes several times, falling in love with the cold-hearted Estella, but eventually becomes his step-brother Joe’s apprentice to become a blacksmith, forever changed by his experience at the Satis house and his new desire to be a gentleman worthy of Estella’s love. Pip’s ambition separates him from Joe and his childhood friend Biddy while planting the idea of superiority. When he loses his fortune, he goes home to find that Joe and Biddy had moved on without him. Despite being completely different, Steinbeck and Dickens made clear statements regarding their characters’ desire to achieve. Both Of Mice and Men and Great Expectations warn against the romanticization of ambition and assert ambition comes at the great cost of one’s relationships with...
