Visit to Moma’s hosue

I visited the women’s shelter home called MOMA’S House in Laveen. Their mission is to “work with women who are committed to transforming their lives while in recovery from domestic violence and human sex trafficking.” Though I had been to homeless shelters before it was my first visit to the women’s shelter home, so I did not have any idea about the likely situation there. However having overcome me own domestic abuse I knew not to be to shocked with what I heard. MOMA’S house
I saw a group of eight women busy making some beads and at the same time basking in the sun. Most of the women were in their early 20s and few were in their early 30s.Quite younger than I thought. As soon as the women noticed us (myself and the lady showing me around), they all glimpsed at us, but did not show any welcoming expression. I had the impression that they were surprised and did not like the visit of strangers. One of the supervisors of the home, who took me on the visit, told me that there were about four more women inside and she would ask them to come outside their rooms so that we could see the remaining women. She did not come back for about 15 minutes. When she appeared she said that “They are very shy of visitors. So, they are hesitant to come outside”. Although many of the women were not comfortable to talk, the children were very open. We talked about their books and their homework, and played with them. After a while on the “tour” women gradually came forward and expressed their desire to talk. I talked to them about tv shows, music non- threating topics and helped finish the bead work. (which was a dream catcher type of thing)

This one woman I talked to for a bit was open and eagerly

Charecter Anaylsis

...In The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls, Liz is an exceptionally intelligent and independent child for someone her age, of only fifteen years old. Because of her extreme responsibility and compassion for those around her, she is a great role model for Bean, her little sister. Other than being a role model, Liz's main purpose is to serve as the maternal figure for Bean since their birth mother leaves for weeks at a time, and is not around to support them. Liz shows her role by always taking care of Bean when their mom decides to leave. To begin, Liz achieved her maternal role to Bean, by getting a job of her own, "Liz had been doing some babysitting, but after Mom had been gone a week, she decided to take on extra work, and I got a job delivering Grit, a newspaper with useful stories..." (Walls 15). Liz knows that if she is not independent and got a job then there was no way that her and Bean could survive without their mother. Also it was her idea to leave for Byler so that the bandersnatchers, which is the girls word for the police, would not be able to take them away to Child Protective Services. Liz always knew what to do in these kind of situations, as we are told by Bean, which makes Liz very dependable. Also, Liz is remarkably intelligent, which we know because she is always complimented by teachers, parents and other adults about how outstanding she is. But not only is Liz considered to be smart in school, or "book smart", she also knows how to deal with the...

Dream House

...In life everyone has their own dreams, whether it be about cars, houses, or their career. Most people I know dream to have the biggest and luxurious houses but I was always satisfied with mine. My house is not a tiny apartment nor a huge mansion but a two story, plain brown brick cozy house with white painted doors. The front yard is decorated with beautiful flowers; roses, lilies, violets, dahlias, daisies and much more, my mother usually plant them. She says, "Flowers are a pleasure and perfection of nature, and they give many things to people, and it does not matter if you are rich or poor, they give you a wonderful world which makes you feel happy". It definitely makes her and our neighbors happy. She shares the seeds of her flowers with the neighbors since they love and always compliment her garden. Walking through the front doors of my house after a long day of school always makes me feel so relaxed. There is always a smell of fresh vanilla or brown sugar candles the moment I walk through my white painted door. As I walk up the stairs and I see four bedrooms and a washroom. There is one bedroom for each of us in the family; my parents, brother, sister and myself. I usually go straight to my room when I get home. The walls in my room are painted a nice light green. There’s my bed in the middle of the room, a desk, night table and a closet. I have always wished I had a walk in closet but I'm comfortable with what I have now, this closet does me just fine. I usually lay in...

My Special Place Research Paper

...My memory significant location was at my grandparents' house. Their old, chipped, painted white house sits about one hundred feet from the road, and it's surrounded by trees and a green lawn. It also has an electric fence set up for the cows that they used to have. I have many vivid memories of driving my old, little, blue four-wheeler through the tall weeds and grass of the field with thorns occasional hitting me. I also remember playing our makeshift games of baseball in the front yard with my sister and one of my relatives if they felt like it. There is still the old, yellow pieces of rope tied around the trees that we designated as a base. Because of its distance from a nearby creek, it has a smell that resembles the stream, which smells like swampy water. Since Micajah Gold lives across the street from the home, every other weekend, there is a slight scent of pig feces, which as you could imagine isn't the nicest smell. Because it's pretty far away from the city limits, the only sounds the are audible are the sounds of crickets, frogs,...

Gregory House Character

...The character Dr. Gregory House, played by Hugh Laurie, can be seen as the problem child in a dysfunctional family role. House has a rigid yet sarcastic personality that is consistent throughout the third season. Additionally, the characters personality is somewhat untrustworthy when it comes to personal life matters, and when a change seems to be made in his character there is usually and unknown benefit house is receiving from it. The problem or rebellious child characteristics can be seen in his showing up, unannounced, to his bosses home, snooping in Wilson’s supposed girlfriend’s locker, and breaking into Cuddy’s office to get painkillers. He shows no boundaries when it comes to his team, Wilson, or Cuddy. House’s relationship with...

Goodbye Home Sweet Home

...the agenda and I was driving into town when my phone started ringing abruptly. Dad was calling. The moment I picked up the phone my stomach dropped and cold chills devoured my body, as he told me our house had caught fire. I sensed the chill of a shadow cast over me and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Instinct pricked me and I knew I needed to return home. When I arrived, my entire street was blocked with fire and rescue crews. On the surface and from a distance, my house looked fine. I started to wander towards the chaos. The closer I proceeded, the damage was more apparent. My eyes began to fill with tears as I sat down tucking my legs to my chest as tight as I could, hiding my face between my knees. I had images racing through my mind of my house being engulfed in flames, with thick, dark smoke pouring out of the windows and roof. I sat in disbelief feeling utterly alone, suddenly assaulted with the vastness of the destruction. I sat, as tears continued to slowly make their way down my somber face, and studied the entrance of my black, damaged home in absolute doubt. I could not help but feel sick to my stomach with anger and discomfort for the obvious injustice of the situation. I heard car doors shut and my name being called through cries of confusion. My mom had just arrived from picking my younger sister up from school. I stood up as Caroline advanced towards me and the visibility of her distress upset me even more. I tried to look composed for her but...

Culture and Identity

...being taken placed that make it very difficult for people to understand. A lot of people find it very difficult to be able to express themselves in their normal cultural behaviors. I have noticed that people will try their very best to fit into societies norms. The reason for that is that they can blend in and will not look different from everyone else. America is one of the most diverse countries in the world that it is so easy for people to be able to blend in and be who they want to be in this country. When I read the story fiesta 1980 by Junot Diaz, it was a perfect example of how different certain cultures are. In the story it shows that in the culture of Hispanics that men are superiors of women. In the story it shows the mom getting into a lot of trouble with the husband because she was not doing what he told her to do. In a lot of cultures women are portrayed as the person who is supposed to just stay home and care after the children, cook and clean. Also women are often viewed as sexual objects and are not good for anything but sex when it is needed. Having a culture that is similar to the one in the fiesta 1980 is very difficult for other people who are not in that type of culture. America is well known for being a very diverse country because there are many different places that share the same culture. That is the reason why people who finally step out of their society find themselves to be lost because they are so used to being able to express...

Derive

...My First Derive Sociology of the City Studies have shown that people today are more stressed and being diagnosed with depression at an earlier age compared to the past. This can be caused by the pressures of becoming successful in today’s society. People see all the advantages of wealth portrayed in the media and strive to have what they see. Family issues can also contribute to the stress factors in life. Most people have an everyday routine that involves work, school, and home. Others may have a routine that is different or quite similar. In Chombart de Lauwe study, Paris et l’agglomération parisienne, he states; “An urban neighborhood is determined not only by geographical and economic factors, but also by the image that its inhabitants and those of other neighborhoods have of it.” Most people only follow their every routine and never stray away from their normal path because of how they view their neighborhood and various economic factors. The information collected from his study showed that many people live their lives very systematically or limited. For example, he uses the reference of a triangle with each point representing the main or key things that encompass our life hence school, work, and home. To solve the problems of everyday life people should take a journey or go on a dérive. After reading Debord’s Theory of the Dérive, I understand what this journey means. A dérive is an unplanned journey through an urban landscape which the contours of the surrounding...

A Good Nights Sleep

...A Good Night’s Sleep It’s a short story written by Brian McCabe about a teacher called Lockhart, who lives on third floor of a tenement building in Edinburgh. He is an insomniac, which is sleeplessness, that’s one problem, but what makes the problem even worse is that his neighbors make a lot of noise, especially the old man from the apartment upstairs and the couple that lives next to him. One night he cannot fall asleep, because he as mentioned before is an insomniac, and then he hears something bumping softly against his door. He is lying, thinking about lots of stuff that night, for example is he thinking about the time where he was young and was going to parties and having fun, and then he’s having troubles figuring out a subject for the nxt mornings discussion with his class. Later that night he walked out to check what it was that was making the noise against his door, and found out that a homeless girl was sitting in his staircase. He talked with her, and asked her to sleep in his son’s bed, but she refused. Later that night came his neighbor couple home from a pub or something, and then they kicked her out of the staircase. Later Lockhart lay in his bed, and could not stop thinking about her, and then he suddenly heard the noise again and knew she was there. The story takes place in Lockharts apartment, and in the staircase outside his apartment in Edinburgh, late at night. Lockhart, the main character is an average man living a almost normal life. Moore Housing Contractors

... Moore Housing Contractors is negotiating a deal with Country Realtors to build six houses in a new development. Countryside wants Moore Contractors to start in late winter or early spring when the weather begins to moderate and build on through the summer into fall. The summer months are an especially busy time for the realty company, and it believes it can sell the houses almost as soon as they are ready, and sometimes even before. The houses all have similar floor plans and are of approximately equal size; only the exteriors are noticeable different. The completion time is so critical for Countryside Realtors that they are insisting that a project management network accompany the contractor’s bid for the job with an estimate of the completion time for a house. The realtor also needs to be able to plan its offerings and marketing for the summer. They want each house to be completed within 45 days after it is started. If a house is not completed within the time frame they want to be able to charge the contractor a penalty. Mary and Sandy Moore, the president and vice-president, respectively, of Moore Contractors, are concerned about the prospects of a penalty charge. They want to be very confident that they can meet the deadline for a house before they enter into any kind of agreement with a penalty involved. (If there is a reasonable likelihood that they cannot finish a house within a 45 days they want to increase their bid to cover potential penalty charges.) ...
