(It starts with one)
One thing I don't know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
(All I know)
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
(It’s so unreal)
Didn’t look out below
Watch the time go right out the WINDOW
Trying to hold on but didn’t even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go

I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to be will eventually be a memory of a time when...

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter

One thing, I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end

You kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when...

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

Sea Swallow Me Rhetorical Devices

...Soundtrack of my Life Music is one of the most valuable things in my life, I dont go a day without it. Not only does it resonate so strongly with me, but it can show you such intimate things about a person that would potentially take years for one to understand. I use music to express myself, you can immediately tell how I feel by what songs I'm listening to at the moment. These specific songs all hold a special meaning to me. Sea Swallow Me: Cocteau Twins, Harold B was a song I listened to my sophomore and junior year in the wintertime. It is a sad song, and reflects perfectly how I felt during that time. I struggled with serious depression, and I’m still working through it, but this song was something I would listen to in some of my darker...

Music in My Life

...grandfather played the trumpet. He learned how to play the guitar at the very young age of 4. Some of the artists who inspired him were Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray. I am drawn to this artist for his style of blues and rock. His music makes me feel mellow and calm. Makes me want to be at a bar drinking a beer, smoking a cigarette and listen to him play live. The culture/environmental music that I can identify in this music are the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Joe’s music is mostly guitar and drums. My Overall impression of the album is excellent. I only disliked 2 songs from the entire album. My favorite song from the album was song title “Reconsider baby” and my second was “When she dances”. Both are slower and mellow. The songs are very calming and easy to listen too. My least favorite song was “Faux Martini”. This song was my least favorite because it sounds too much like country and I’m not a country fan. Sounds very honky tonk and that’s not my style at all. One of the musical characteristics I found is his music was texture. His music is very thick and full. It’s a part of western music and that is what Joe sings. I can identify specially the acoustic, bass and electric guitars involved. The flow of the album seemed to go pretty steady. The album made sense to me. It...

Sound Tracks to My Life

...Sound Tracks to My Life I wonder if there is such a thing as a good addiction, because I’m sure as hell addicted to music. When I think of music I think of an escape. I can be doing anything at any given moment and put in a pair of head phones and be completely in another world. Without music, my day is completely empty and boring. I wake up to music; I go to school listening to music and even eat to it. Music is a source of joy, stress, tears, camaraderie and fulfillment for me. What would life be without music? The world would be a very quiet place. Music for me is a reminder of how things once were an indication of how things are, and a view of where society is headed. Music is a direct reflection of the picture of society. Music can be a way to deliver messages, a poetic medium, a fine art, or nothing more than a source of entertainment. No matter what it is used for, music is the perfect art and my life would be that much less complete without it. Two songs come to mind when I think about all these sources of completeness for myself. First is “Proud to Be an American” by Lee Greenwood and “You and Me” by Soldier of Jah Army. I often think of the words of Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless the USA” in which he states:”And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free....” I wholeheartedly agree. My heart swells with gratitude to God and this wonderful land where, regardless of whom I am or what my goals are, I have that priceless gift of freedom. Freedom to...

Listen To Music Analysis

...time singing in the car or around my house, even though I was never all that great at it. I have many fond childhood memories of singing or listening to silly songs with my family and now that I am older I look back on those special times and am so thankful I was able to have them. Over the years I have begun to lose interest in music, since lately I have noticed that anytime I listen to any type of music the song is immediately stuck in my head and can get stuck in my head for many days and is quite irritating. Though I do listen to music in the car and while working out but other than that I prefer the silence. My current distaste in music has not caused me to disregard it from my past and the great memories...

Listening Journal

...ever) would you pop in a CD, click a song on your iPod, or tune your radio to a station that you strongly disliked. It just does not seem like a good use of time, and it is not something that you would probably enjoy doing on a daily basis. However, for this exercise, we are going to ask that you do precisely what we’ve described above and then apply what you’ve experienced and learned to several questions and four ESSENTIAL CORNERSTONES from Chapter 1. PROCESS: Over the course of the next few days, find a song from your least favorite genre. If you are a huge fan of R&B, move away from that genre and choose something from a genre of which you are not particularly fond. You might choose an old country song or a song from rap or bluegrass. If you enjoy listening to “Easy Love Songs,” try something different such as metal or swing. The only stipulation is that the song must have lyrics. You will have to listen to the song several times to answer the questions. HOWEVER, it is important that you read the questions BEFORE you listen to the song—particularly question #2. The key to this exercise is to practice listening with an open mind, listening for content, and listening to words when barriers are in the way (the barrier in this case would be the music itself). * 1. What is the song’s title and artist? The song I chose is titled and Breathe and it is by Faith Hill. * 2. What emotional and mental responses did you have to the song the first time you listened to it?...

Personal Style of Music Paper

...been racking my brain day in and day out for the past two weeks, I figured out that I did actually used to enjoy listening to music for the following reasons: the lyrics, the vocals and the happy memories that would come rushing back when I would hear a certain song. There were many songs that I would listen to over and over again because of the lyrics in the song and the message that the song portrayed to me. Christina Aguilera’s song titled “Beautiful”, to me, really portrays an uplifting and powerful message: You are beautiful no matter what they say Words can't bring you down....oh no You are beautiful in every single way Yes, words can't bring you down, oh, no So don't you bring me down today... I think that is a really important message for everyone to know. People in this world can be really cruel and hurtful, especially to younger people who may not fit the “perfect body” profile. Another song I love simply because of the lyrics is Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day”. I believe the song’s lyrics can be really helpful to someone during a time of loss: And I know you're shining down on me from heaven Like so many friends we've lost along the way And I know eventually we'll be together One sweet day Another song that I really love just for the lyrics and the simple message that the song portrays is a song that never really got all that popular on the radio by Pink called True Love. It is just a really simple, yet funny song. It fits me and not only my husband perfectly...

How Music Cinnects

...so far. I love music not only listening to it but writing it and singing it as well. Here goes, when I was growing up I listened to a lot of music from the 50’s and 60’s my parents grew up during this time and loved this type of music I enjoyed this type of music and still do. I heard songs from Leslie Gore, Elvis, Dion and the Belmont’s Ray Patterson just to name a few. Sometimes I would cry and sometimes I would be happy depending on what song I was listening to let me explain. When I heard the song Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows from Leslie Gore I would be happy I thought that if we had sunshine rainbows and lollipops (I love lollipops) then the world would be peaceful and everyone would want to live in it. the song that I always made me cry was tell Laura I love her by Ray Patterson the reason I cried was it was sad it’s a song about how a guy is in love with a girl and all he wants to do is marry her so he decides that the only way to get her a ring is to enter a stock car race well he dies while he is racing and Laura is left alone without the man she loves. I think that if I had to reflect on how these songs helped me through childhood I would have to say that they helped me to understand that life is not about sunshine rainbows and lollipops but about love and death. Leslie Gore: Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows Ray Patterson: Tell Laura I love her During my adolescence I listened to The New Kids on the Block they were my idol I had all of their...

Space for Love: Nature's Domain

...these places. Although each writer’s interpretation of love-like settings may differ from one another, there are very basic similarities between them. Tradition has made it so that nature is almost always involved in these, “Spaces for Love.” Also, traditionally we would expect love between opposite sexes but there is tremendous amounts of literature written now that involve love between the same sexes. My goal in this essay is to show that through the change in old and more recent literature nature has been key in traditional views of love settings/places. To reach this goal, I’ll be using and comparing quotes from the bible’s Song of Songs and Paul Monette’s Gardenias to show how nature has always been an important part of places for love. Starting with Song of Songs, it is said to have been written by King Solomon himself but it is also believed to be a compilation of Arabic wasfs that were translated into Hebrew. It was first published in English in 1611 in the King James Version of the Bible. The idea of love being heterosexual is represented very clearly and the concept of nature plays a huge part in this love story. There are so many references to fruits and plants and a clear distinction of man and woman. “As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.” (Song of Sol. 2:3) In this quote the woman is comparing her place under her beloved with sitting...

When we arrive at the studios where my lesson is I get out of the truck and step into the cold dark night and I could hear an owl in the distance, it's a nice night. Not much city noise and no yelling or screaming. When I get to matt's studio I sit down right away in front of the drum set. He leads of my handing me a piece of paper. Redlands Wind Ensemble

...and finally in the last row were the percussion instruments. Knowing that it was a wind ensemble and not a traditional orchestra like the ones we have been made familiar with during this course, I was unsure of what to expect. I thought that it would be long and drawn out but I thought that I would not hate it and be able to at least respect the quality of music even if its not exactly my favorite genre. Much to my surprise, it was relatively short (only about 45 minutes) and was relatively interesting. I found myself tapping my foot to the music and enjoying the sounds very much. I was very impressed by the talent that these young men and women had, especially after hearing that they had prepared for this show in only three weeks. The first song that was played was Henry Fillmore’s “The Crosley March”. Right when I had walked in the show started and I could immediately tell the song being played was the first of the night. The song had a very festive feel to it and was short as if it were made specifically to start the show off with an interesting sound. The song had a wide variety of pitches and started the show off with a bang. I found the rhythm of the song to be very interesting and the tempo to be very appropriate for the start of the show, as it got you immediately excited and ready for what was to come. The second song of the night was “Lux Aurumque”...

Il Divo Live in Barcelona

...and watched it by myself in my family room, because my children and husband do not care for this kind of music as I do. The concert was with IL Divo, they are four men named David Miller, Sebastien Izambard, Carlos Marin, and Urs Buhler, and they are dressed in black suits when they come out on stage. The concert was live in Barcelona on April 3, 2009 and the performance was at the Palau Sant Jordi. IL Divo is surrounded by an operatic quartet that plays the music beautifully. My initial reaction about this concert/place is what a magnificent place the Palau Sant Jordi is, it was built in the year 1990 in Barcelona, Spain. I truly wish that I could go and see these four beautiful men sing their hearts out, I would be in awe over how big and beautiful these guy’s voices truly are and I bet in person it would be an amazing gift to hear. The song that IL Divo sang is one of my all time favorite songs from Simon & Garfunkel is/was Bridge over trouble waters. Un- break my Heart originally sung by Toni Braxton who sang it in 1993 and she sounded great when she sang it, but when IL Divo sang this song they blew my mind away with the way their voices are so rich and deep it’s like floating in chocolate and you don’t even care if you drown in it. IL Divo also sang Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues; The Winner takes it all by Abba; My Way by Frank Sinatra and also Elvis. Also the song called The Impossible Dream. IL Divo likes to sing the songs by translating the lyrics out...

One of popular music's advantages has always been it's catchy hooks, rhythmic hits, and exciting, memorable lyrics. Most of the music that society listens to, especially rap and pop music, have lyrics that repeatedly reference sex, violence and drugs. In the music industry sex is known to sell records. Worship

...What is Worship? Consider the meaning of the word. The English word worship is derived from an older Anglo-Saxon word weorthship which meant "to honor." Christian worship, whether individual or corporate, offers honor to God. Worship can and should characterize our daily life, we offer praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. As ministers through music, we must get out of the way and let God do his thing through us. Do we always get out of his way? No. We fail often and have to remind ourselves of just who our Audience is (i.e., God). But God is faithful! He has been drawing the church into his presence through worship for two millennia (not to mention the tabernacle & temple before that). God’s people have approached him over that time in numerous ways. Worship music is important to our worship experience as the Church body, and throughout history. John 4:24 “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”     • For us to worship God in spirit and in truth we must make sure we obey all of His commandments as given by Him in the Bible on how He is to be worshipped.     • We must speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.     • As we sing, pray, give, partake of the communion, and as the gospel sermon is preached, it must be done according to God’s instructions in the Bible. The purpose of our worship is to glorify, honor, praise, exalt, and please God.  Our worship must show our adoration and loyalty...

I Pod as a Social Artifact

...it works.” (Issacson). This is a famous quote by Steve Jobs. The project was a secret. Other then Steve Jobs and a few other apple executives nobody knew what it was. The code name was P-68 (Knopper). The IPod was introduced to the public in 2001. At first, it was only compatible with Mac computers, but two years later, the iPod could be used with any type of computer. This caused sales to skyrocket! Steve Jobs worked with apple inc. to come up with the IPod. Although Apple was not the first to come up with the idea of an mp3 player, no other mp3 player has ever been as big of a hit. Sony and a few other companies had come up with digital music players a few years prior, but their versions were more expensive and could not hold nearly the amount of songs as the IPod could. The IPod was the first mp3 player to really succeed because people loved the idea. Not only was the IPod a convenient way to store music, It was a social and fashion statement. The IPod changed everything about society. Think about how technology, fashion, and the Internet have changed since the IPod. The ads were genius, making the Garrett 2 IPod an irresistible necessity. Marketing caused the IPod to be “cool” and every one wanted one. The IPod has changed society in more ways then anyone could have imagined, but not all of the changes are positive. The invention of the IPod has led to advances in technology that affect almost every aspect of society (Knopper). The iPod has indeed led to more convenient...

Love of Music

...there is a song that fits perfectly for the current mood, there is a song that can also lift you out of that mood. Music has been one of my best friends. It always knows what to say and how I feel no matter if it is a song because I am hurting or a song that makes me dance. For every action or feeling, there is a lyric that sings and speaks exactly what you feel. I am the youngest of seven children. My mother birthed four but my father had a total of seven. I was always the cute kid that everyone loved. I was bright skinned with curly brown hair and hazel eyes. I was athletic yet hard working. Me and my siblings never really got along. I was always the “odd man out” so to speak. I never related to anyone in my family but I was happy being me. The choices I make today are still the same. I still could care less what someone else thinks of me. If I feel like dancing, I will dance. If I feel like singing, I will sing. I learned at a very young age to make myself happy. There is a song by Corinne Bailey Rae called Put Your Records On. It is about being yourself, letting your hair down and following your dreams. Being careless and free, living life and learning from your past experiences. In life things may get hard but you still have to push on even when you feel as though everyone is against you, be yourself. As a kid it was easy to live and do what you wanted because we were kids having fun and being happy. When we get older, that is a true test of emotion. When I hit my pre-teen...
