1. Detailed Overview of Test Results I took the Myers-Briggs test through 16Personalities, and I was surprised, as I had received a different result when I took the Myers-Briggs test last year through Naviance, and pleased by the results. I was categorized as extroverted, observant, thinking, and judging (ESTJ), and I believe that the description provided by 16Personalities, deemed “The Executive,” describes me perfectly. In summary, I am practical, realistic, and matter-of-fact. Furthermore, I am decisive, as I quickly move to implement decisions, and I organize projects and people to get things done in the most efficient way possible. I also have a clear set of logical standards that I systematically follow, and I want others to follow as well, which is sometimes detrimental. Moreover, I am, at times, stubborn and forceful when implementing my plans. Per the website, ESTJs are natural auditors, financial officers, lawyers, and business administrators. Luckily, I hope to study finance and international studies, which can result in a job as a corporate lawyer, investment banker, or …show more content…
This source shines some light on the benefits of the Myers-Briggs test, while exposing its flaws at the same time. Per University of Pennsylvania professor of psychology Adam Grant, the test has little to no scientific value, “In social science, we use four standards: Are the categories reliable, valid, independent, and comprehensive? For the MBTI (Myers-Briggs test), the evidence says not very, no, no, and not really.” Despite the lack of scientific value, the Myers-Briggs test is valuable when finding people or institutions with similar values to yourself. As Jerry Seinfeld put it in an episode of Seinfeld, “Now I know what I've been looking for all these years...myself! I've been waiting for me to come along, and now I've swept myself off my feet!” I used this source to discern the positives and negatives of the Myers-Briggs

Recruitment & Selection: Myers Briggs

...The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) is a psychometric test used to measure psychological preferences in how a person makes decisions and perceives their surrounding environment. A mother-daughter pair, Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers developed the test based on the typological theories of Carl Gustav Jung. After more than fifty-years of research and development, the MBTI has become the most widely used and respected personality tool. Eighty-nine companies out of the US Fortune 100 make use of it for recruitment and selection, or to help employees gain a better understanding of themselves and their colleagues (Psychometric Success, 2013). The primary theory behind the MBTI is that each person's personality fits into only one of sixteen types. These categories are based on four features of personality, each consisting of two opposite preferences called dichotomies. The MBTI combines an individual’s preferences from each dichotomous pair, denoted by a letter, to yield one of the personality types. Each type is equally valuable and according to the theory, everyone has an innate preference that determines how he or she will behave in all situations (Myers-Briggs, 2013). The four dimensions are: Extroversion (E) vs Introversion (I). This dimension reflects the perceptual orientation of the individual. Extroverts are said to react to immediate and objective conditions in the environment. Introverts, however, look inward to their internal and subjective reactions...

...Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Introduction The world economy today is changing in a fast pace and it puts a high pressure on companies abilities to be efficient and productive. Because of today’s demanding business environment companies are under more pressure and a strategic advantage could be in building an effective workforce through a variety of psychometric testing (Suman, 2009). One such psychometric test is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which is widely used in organisations today as a tool. This literature review aims to briefly describe the background history of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and to understand the theory of the test. It also aims to identify and investigate research done on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. One objective is to analyse research on its reliability and validity and also to understand the application of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in different appropriate work and organisational settings e.g. team work. History MBTI is based on the writings of Carl Jung, a Swiss who worked with Freud before parting from him and developing his own theory. Jung was influenced by Freud but suggested that it was something wider than purely sexual or aggressive drives that motivated behaviour. He also shifted focus from Freud’s childhood centred personality development theory to a belief that personality development continues throughout life (Maltby, Day and Macaskill, 2010). When Jung analysed a patient’s case history through two different perspectives...

Intj Personalities

...INTJ Consideration Alyssa Bergermann Eastern Michigan University Personality Inventory an INTJ Consideration Personality tests, a long studied branch of psychology; within this long period of focus psychologists have labeled few tests as reliable staples that individuals unfamiliar with psychological backgrounds can easily interpret. The MBTI, Myers Briggs Type Indicator test’s purpose is to take the designated personality types conceived by C.G. Jung and shift them into more understandable concepts relatable to an individual’s life (Myers & Briggs Organization, 2014). Focusing on an INTJ test result, we will compare the examinee’s personality traits to those described by her MBTI result. Evaluation of these results will confirm whether she feels the test was accurate or if she disagrees with some aspects of the test. We will also assess for areas where the examinee may feel she has learned something new about herself from the provided INTJ test score. Scoring for the MBTI involves consideration of how the examinee responds to the provided questions. These questions are reported in an analytical fashion that allows results to focus on specific personality criteria (Myers & Briggs Organization, 2014). Our results included the letters INTJ, these letters stand for the personality designations of the examinee. Considering that these results pertain to the following personality breakdown, introvert (22%), intuitive (28%), thinking (19%), and judging (47%) the examinee...

Motivational Theories and Applications

...Motivational Theories and Applications Professor Teri Michael Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for MGM 335 Organizational Behavior Principles By Deborah Cantin CTUO January 20, 2014 Motivational Theories and Applications This paper introduces three motivational theories with models. Each one provides a different method for motivating individuals in the workplace. We also discuss how Myers-Briggs (MBIT) factors into motivation. Employees need motivation based on their psychological and physical needs according to Abraham Maslow, Fredrick Herzberg, and the use of Myers-Briggs to identify individual behavioral traits. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs According to Kendra Cherry, “Abraham Maslow was born on April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York” (Cherry, n.d.). Mr. Maslow was the first of seven children. His parents were Jewish and moved from Russia. He was a rather lonely boy who spent his childhood reading books. Mr. Maslow thirsted for more in-depth knowledge so he went on to study law at the City College of New York. During his time there, he married Bertha Goodman his first cousin. During his studies at the University of Wisconsin, he decided to study psychology. He found a mentor named Harrow Harlow who later became his doctoral advisor. Mr. Maslow went on to earn three psychology degrees from the University of Wisconsin. The three degrees included: a bachelors in 1930, a master’s in 1931, and a doctorate in 1934” (Cherry, n.d.). ...Between Running head: PERSONALITY AND MATH ATTITUDES 1 The Relationship between Myers-Briggs Personality Dimensions and Attitudes toward Mathematics PSYC 215 Tuesday June 20, 2006 The Relationship Between Abstract The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationships between five mathematics attitudes based on the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales (1976), with the four Myers-Briggs personality variables. It was hypothesized that significant negative correlations would result between the thinking/feeling personality scale and the attitudes of mathematics confidence, math-related anxiety and perceived usefulness of mathematics. The participants 2 in this study were 48 Trent University students enrolled in PSYC 215, all of whom completed the Jung Typology Test and the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales-Revised. The results indicated that a significant negative relationship exists between the thinking/feeling personality scale and the math confidence attitude. The other four attitudes did not demonstrate statistically significant correlations with any of the personality variables. Future research involving a more specific exploration of attitudes and personality factors would prove beneficial. In addition gender comparisons for personality and mathematics attitudes may be useful as well. Myers-Briggs Psychological Types

...Think Piece #1 Myers-Briggs Psychological Types In the early 1900’s, famed Swiss Psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung recognize that people had distinctly different preferences which leads to different behaviors. Carl Jung developed and characterized people into two perceiving functions; Sensation and Intuition, and two judging functions; Thinking and Feeling. These functions were then modified by two main attitude types; Extraversion and Introversion. Carl Jung believed that we all use these four functions throughout our lives, but individually we use different functions with a varying amount of success and frequency. During World War II, American Psychologist Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs interest in Jung’s personality types led to their creation of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI) examination. Their goal was to help people understand themselves and each other so that they may work in war-time tasks that suited their personality types therefore increasing happiness, creativity, and production. In this “Think Piece” assignment, I will; - Discuss the results of my psychological type given by Myers-Briggs test on-line. - How my specific type affects my behavior at work? - Discuss the psychological type of someone whose type is completely opposite of mine. - Use the Myers-Briggs concepts to describe how the relationship between the two of us could be uncomfortable. - Describe also how I may be able to complement the opposite psychological type. My Decision to Pursue an Mba Degree to Further My Career

...My decision to pursue an MBA degree to further my career - Week-2 MGT / 521 September 7, 2010 My decision to pursue an MBA degree to further my career - Week-2 The slow down of the US economy has caused companies to start to down sizing, reducing their workforce by layoffs or closing down completely. The Information Technology is being hit twice as hard by not only the reduction of local positions due to the economy slow down but in addition, the lower cost of outsourcing (Computerworld Staff, Feb 22, 2010) . During a recent reduction in force evaluation by my current employer, I noticed that the employee’s education level was an assessed value, which added to the valuable points for retaining an employee. I decided that continuing my education would be a very important addition to resume, future reduction in force evaluations to maintain my current career or make me more valuable if I was out looking for a job. Originally, I was interested in starting a Master of Science in Management (MSM) (Thomas Edison State College, 2010) to further advancement in my current career in Information Technology (IT) and potentially get into a IT Management position the program is offered strictly on-line. I have also started noticing a pattern of companies “outsourcing” information technology jobs to other countries for cost savings to the US companies and noticed the continued strong increase of revenue for the Outsourced Cognizant Technology Solutions (Ribeiro, Augu) . I decided...

Leadership Self-Assessment

...Leadership Self-Assessment HA515: Leadership in Health Care February 7, 2015 For this assignment I had decided to take the Myers and Briggs personality test and the type A and B personality indicators test each of these test I took numerous times and basically got the same results. Both of these tests are made up of multiple questions on feelings to how you react in certain situations. Out of the two tests I like the Myers Briggs test better than the type A and B test I feel I got a better reading from the Myers-Briggs test. So my results in the Myers-Briggs test was INTJ and this was broken down into four categories. First introvert, second intuitive, third thinking and the fourth judging. I was pleasantly surprised. I scored a slight preference of introversion over extraversion by 22%. I had a distinct preference of intuition over sensing by 62%. I had a moderate preference of thinking over feeling by 50% and I had a moderate preference of judging over perceiving by 33% . And for my other test I scored a 5 out of 10 making me a type B personality. So now comes the fun part of breaking each part of the test down on what type of leader I am. The first scale in the Myers-Briggs test for me was introversion over extraversion by 22%. I do agree with this. I have always said I am more of introversion individual. His I have always enjoyed solitary activities growing up I was always reading any book I could get my hands on trying to broaden my mental capacity of...
