Many people believe that summer break is more interesting than school, but in school you can learn more. For example, if you have all summer in school you would have a longer time for learning.

Students can benefit from school because they don’t use electronics all day long. For instance, if you are sitting in front of the computer all day your brain will turn to mush or waste. The students are putting their brains to work doing schoolwork or math problems for example. Students will also get homework that keeps the students busy.

If we did not have a summer break I think we should have at least holiday breaks. For example, we should have Easter, Christmas breaks, or important holidays.

We should not have a summer break because we can learn more. We would have a little bit of electronics which means we are kept busy. This is why I think we should not have a summer break. 3/21/13

Summer Break Research Paper

...The second semester of school arrives and grade-school students have one goal in mind; they simply want to survive until summer break. The day-dreams include fantasies of getting gorgeously tan, stretching out in a hammock to read a good book, and having wild adventures with friends every possible day. However is this the reality of what the traditional three month summer includes? No, many kids instead complain to their parents of their complete and utter boredom by the time July hits. In the states closer to the equator the sun makes the outdoors so scorchingly hot that people get dangerously sunburned rather than a bronzed tan. And in all honesty, the average American kid is not spending her/his free time by reading such an “ordinary thing” as a book. This reality of how the end months of summer break turn out do not necessarily mean that the whole break was a complete waste all together. After...

Intersession Breaks In A Short Summer School

...At this point, the schools’ intersession breaks, which have previously been mentioned, may come in handy because each intersession can act as a short summer school. Students could use these intercessions as a tutoring period as well. Particularly if the school operates a multitrack schedule because a portion of teacher would always be around to assist students. A portion of teacher would be on school grounds because some if not all of the school's facilities are used on an offset year-round schedule. Aside from allowing for an extra tutor/learning period, shorter breaks can benefit a student in terms that it cuts down on summertime boredom that most students would experience during summer vacation. An increase in shorter breaks also brings...

Year Round School

...traditional calendar is divided into nine months of instruction and three of vacation during the summer. Year-round calendars break these long instructional/ vacation blocks into a pattern of sixty days of instruction followed by twenty days of vacation.” (CA Dept of Education). Students who receive more frequent breaks don't receive a customary ten to twelve-week summer break. Removing any kind of long break from school can enhance a child’s educational accomplishment. Long summers are known for "summer slide," or the decay of cerebral abilities and loss of information throughout the longer break. Summer-slide is different across grade levels, subject matter and family income, according to the National Summer Learning Association. However, it still affects all children in some way. If a student does not have a long break, it helps prevent summer learning loss. Summer learning loss is a significant issue for children. All children – rich or poor - experience a slide in math over the summer. The slide is different for everyone. Despite the fact that it may appear fun, an extended summer break can frequently prompt weariness. Year-round school wipes out the need to fill the twelve weeks of summer break with exercises to keep children intrigued and locked in. If the summer break is not organized, then it seems too long. Great deals of children don’t have enough to do in the summer. However with the pros, come the cons? The most evident disadvantage of year-round school is the...

Year Round School Break Essay

...Should You Give Up Summer Break? Many people ask, if your children should have year round school. I chose yes, because summer vacation is outdated. If you stop having school break you could take forever to get back to what you were learning before. Keeping schools open all year round could take pressure off of children to catch up. The first reason why we shouldn’t have summer break is because it would take forever to catch up. According to Sindhu Nair, it would avoid teachers and students getting burnt out with more frequent breaks. In addition, Students think of year-round schools to be no summer traditions, but you still get summer camps and beach vacations. Year Round School Break Analysis

...There's a debate about whether American schools should keep the long summer break or switch to year-round classes. Some say year-round schooling helps students remember more, while others argue for the value of the traditional break. Looking over the sources, I believe schools should switch to year-round classes with shorter breaks. This can improve learning memory and still provide enough rest. While summer break is important and loved in schools, keeping it affects the students negatively. So, schools should consider adjusting or eliminating it to better serve all students' needs. Granderson in Source A, talks about how the long summer break has the students' fresh material fade away. He says that during summer, students can forget a lot...

When you finally get to school, your grade starts off with a 70% in your ELAR test. This is what we call ‘Summer Brain drain’ and there’s now a way to prevent it. Year round school makes sure we have breaks that are more spread out, therefore not forgetting any information. With year round school, in between breaks we could get more sleep, bump your grades by getting more time to study, and stopping brain drain. On average, teenagers get 7- 7 ¼ hours of sleep, and with homework, sports, and social media, sleep can be lower than that. We need exactly 9 ¼ hours of sleep a...

Year-Round Education

...of teachers. One specific solution may be to change the school calendar from the traditional school session of nine months, to a year-round term. Supposedly, this new calendar better facilitates learning. Year-round education has the potential to bring economy, accountability, and educational efficiency to the schools. While Year-Round schooling can save money, the impact on academic achievement is uncertain (Graves, McMullen and Rouse). This type of school system impacts students, teachers, parents and the community in both positive and negative ways. The traditional school calendar has been in effect for more than a century. Students have relied on a 180-day school year with a long summer vacation. Originally, the school calendar was organized so that children would have the summer off to help their parents work on the farm. Although most communities no longer depend heavily on agriculture and children no longer carry on the responsibilities they once did, our society continues to follow the traditional school calendar. The debate surrounding YRE (Year-Round Education) generally focuses on five broad categories: professional staffing and development, administrative issues, student achievement, parental and community concerns, and cost factors (Opheim, Mohajer and Read). The term “Year-Round Education” may be misleading. It doesn’t mean that students attend school Monday through Friday all year long. As Elaine Warrick-Harris states, “perhaps a better name for...
