...Essay about ’The Order of Things’ Love can hit you like a tornado. Both create an aftermath in which you can often find yourself totally reset, with new ground rules to play by. The short story ‘The Order of Things´, written by Judy Troy investigates themes such as the resetting of a mindset, the value of our short lives, but most of all: love. This essay seeks to focus on the setting, the two main characters, their relationship and symbols to underline certain points of the text. The setting in this short story takes us to the small town Worland, which is located in the state of Wyoming, USA. As with most small towns in the United States, we get the feeling that it is a town where people have close relations with one another. For instance, the first line of the story mentions “…the first inning of the Worland Lutheran softball game…” as the place where our characters Lucy and Carl meet. The fact that it is a Lutheran softball game points towards Worland being a religious town as well. The story takes place over about half a year, from August to around February. This makes for some interesting use of the weather, which is used to underline certain points and moods: “Then in bed, with the sound of rain on the thin roof, they talked about their marriages.” (p. 8 l. 60) Everyone knows the sound of rain dazzling on a thin roof. It screams intimacy. Intimacy is something Carl has never really been used to dealing with. He is the result of a rushed marriage without intimacy: “…...

...SALES ORDER PROCESS The sales order process was documented to allow for the smooth flow of sales orders through to invoices and deliveries. It is meant to act as a guide for employees when executing this system. The goal is to set standards and alleviate or minimise errors. This is intended to give additional confidence to everyone involved in this process and to enhance the customer experience in every transaction with the company. The Sales Manager would be closest to this process. To achieve the desired goals and objectives, he should strive to accomplish sales targets with the least amount of cost, time and resources involved. Having a documented system will raise efficiency providing that the system is operating well and everyone has the knowledge and skills to use it. Every system will need to be upgraded using proven techniques of continuous improvement to make the system more efficient. A system is known as a group of parts, events, or processes that are interdependent and connected together in a distinct form. The point is bringing together each part through systems thinking so that the whole organisation survives and thrives. Undoubtedly a lot can go wrong with a system and therefore we must consider a few things. Here are some that are applicable: * Connections between departments across the organisation * Asking the five whys (Grubb, 2008)to find the root of a problem * Patterns of behaviour * Use a systematic six step process to solve...

...“Order winner and order qualifier are criteria defined by managers within their operation strategy plan to gain competitive advantage in the market”(Encyclopedia of Business, 2nd Ed.) Order Winners and qualifiers are used to measure and to assure managers in relation to the products or services that they provide. Order winners are issues that directly and significantly help products win orders in the marketplace. People buying the product or service regard such factors as key reasons for buying or using the product or service. An Order qualifier is the characteristic of a companies product or service which are set in order for a customer to consider the product or service for either purchase or use. The Order winner is what we would consider as the winning factor, giving that extra factor to win the customer or service over that of other competitors. Companies must provide qualifiers to enter the given market and become equally as good as the competitors in order to keep sales and service levels before being able to enter with a winner in order to be that one step above another competitor. “The success of a company depends greatly on Order-winner factor“ (Slack, Lewis 2008). It is one of the most important issues that pushes and persuades people to take or use a product or service from a company. The order winner issue tends to be at the top of the list for companies and the managers that make these strategic plans, because it seems to benefits the given company...

...Order processing Order processing is a key element of Order fulfillment. Order processing operations or facilities are commonly called "distribution centers". "Order processing" is the term generally used to describe the process or the work flow associated with the picking, packing and delivery of the packed item(s) to a shipping carrier. The specific "order fulfillment process" or the operational procedures of distribution centers are determined by many factors. Each distribution center has its own unique requirements or priorities. There is no "one size fits all" process that universally provides the most efficient operation. Some of the factors that determine the specific process flow of a distribution center are: * The nature of the shipped product - shipping eggs and shipping shirts can require differing fulfillment processes * The nature of the orders - the number of differing items and quantities of each item in orders * The nature of the shipping packaging - cases, totes, envelopes, pallets can create process variations * Shipping costs - consolidation of orders, shipping pre-sort can change processing operations * Availability and cost and productivity of workforce - can create trade-off decisions in automation and manual processing operations * Timeliness of shipment windows - when shipments need to be completed based on carriers can create processing variations * Availability of capital expenditure dollars - influence on manual verses automated...

...Protective Order CJHS/430 November 20, 2015 The main purpose of having what we know to be called Law in place is to help protect the people as a whole. It is to provide the necessary protection and give out legal penalties if someone was to break the laws. The purpose and main for a protective order is to protect someone from harm of another individual. It helps those that may be in harm of sexual, physical, mental abuse, stalking, harassment as well as those that have issues with neighbors’. Pretty much a protective order is put in place to help citizens be protective of any form of abuse by anyone. According to (findlaws) protective orders are court-ordered documents that require the person named in the order to stay away from for a particular distance of the individual filing. Protective also known as a “restraining order” as well, and is commonly used to keep away abusive spouses and even family that may feel their life is in danger of someone. In Indiana under code sec. 34-26-5-1 you can find their rules and requirements for a protective order and the requirements and eligibility of an order. In Indiana the duration of an individual that has been placed on an order is 60 days maximum for an emergency and maximum 1 year which can be extended out for an additional 1 year. I totally disagree with that law because honestly someone that has to get arrested should be on protective custody order from a victim for the rest of their life. There has been a number of women...

...Birth order is defined as a person's rank by age among his or her siblings. Birth order is often believed to have a profound affect on ones distinctive character, behavior and intelligence. For our culminating task I chose the topic of birth order because it birth order has a direct relation with the family and is vary relatable topic to everyone. I thought it would be interesting research and learn more about this theory; because it gives insight on to why people the way they are. The research question I sought to find out was: Does birth order effect the combination of characteristics and qualities that form an individual's personality, behavior and intelligence and if so, how does it affect a person's distinctive character? To begin my research I first formed a hypothesis based on my general knowledge and inquiry on the subject. My hypothesis was that the chronological placement of siblings within a family would affect the combination of characteristics and qualities that form an individual's distinctive character, behavior and intelligence. My thinking was that in General, parents are excited and anticipated about their first child and hence, tend to be overly protective and pay more attention, investment, as well as expectation on this child. However, parents’ attention, investment, and expectation vary across children. As the second child arrives in the family, the firstborn may experience dethronement and the same happens to the second born once a third child arrives...

...Intelligence and Birth Order: Are They Connected? Abstract There have been many examinations of birth order and the effect it has on a person’s intelligence. Some researchers feel that first-born children have higher IQ’s than that of their younger siblings. It has been said that first-born children are natural leaders. Siblings of first-born children perceive them to be academically smarter. Eldest children are known to perform higher on standardize testing than younger children in the family. Other researchers have stated that family size/home life, age of mother and circumstances around the birth of each individual child determines where they are intellectually. Researchers need to look at every aspect of the child’s life before they decide which child is smarter. Intelligence and Birth Order: Are They Connected? Birth order is where a person ranks in regards to age among their siblings, from oldest to youngest and vice-versa. There is much debate on the relationship between a person birth order and how intelligent we are. Many studies have been done to determine if there is a link to the firstborn having a higher IQ in general compared to their siblings. Some people would agree that birth order has a profound influence over intelligence; however, others are in opposition to this. The opposition feels that birth order has no effect when it comes to intelligence. Does birth order cause children to have lower or higher intellect or is this caused by factors...

...What are you? People always wonder why they have certain traits or act a certain way but never think that it is because of their birth order. The birth order of siblings can have a big effect on the traits a person has depending if they are the first born, middle child, or youngest child. If are bossy you’re most likely a first born child. If you would rather just go with the flow you’re probably a middle child. If you don’t take much serious and always up for a joke you are more than likely the baby of the bunch. First things first, there is the oldest child, the first born. This child is known to be bossy. Since she is the oldest she makes the rules. Her siblings know not to cross her because when the parents aren’t around she’s the one in charge and you don’t want to be on her bad side. She is a perfectionist. She does everything to her best ability and expects her younger siblings and friends to follow in her footsteps. Sarah Toler author of Understanding the Birth Order Relationship states, “The oldest child is often the captain of the kickball team on the playground or the math genius who request extra credit assignments” (276). As the first born she tends to be independent and more to herself. This is because her parents usually spend more time on her younger siblings. She is a natural born leader. “Rolling with the punches is the key to survival for the sibling stuck in the middle” (276). Since there is always someone before and after the...

...Introduction The purpose of this essay paper is to critically compare the epistemology governing the first and second order cybernetic approaches. (Epistemology is defined by Becvar and Becvar (2013), as the study of how we know what we know, and how we can make valid knowledge claims based on a particular theoretical framework. It focuses on the assumption that underline a particular framework and whether the knowledge claim made by that theory is logically consistent with its own assumption). In doing so, the student will answer the following questions: 1. Name and define the first-order cybernetic principles as described in the book The first order cybernetic is also known as simple cybernetic. Becvar and Becvar (2013), describe the first order cybernetic metaphorically by using the black box. They stated that it is a system whose operation we attempt to understand by observing what goes into and what comes out of it, analysis of inputs and outputs. In addition, we place ourselves outside the system as observers of what is going on inside the system. We are more interested in understanding the interaction and relationships within the system. The observer stays outside of the system being observed and views him/herself as being in a position to facilitate adjustment in the system without taking into consideration his/her participation. The following are the principles of this approach as stated in Becvar and Becvar (2013): * Recursion: this principle states...

...INTRODUCTION Order fulfillment and delivery of products to customers are tricky parts of supply chain management. Earlier in 1990s, there was pull system in use and later it changed to push- pull system in order fulfilment. This change in system of order fulfillment was to increase margins, service and also to cope with the increase in volume of the orders. Order fulfillment does not confine to just delivering the ordered goods to the customers, but also provide all related customer services. In simple terms, along with the product, product information and usage information should be provided with the product. In addition to this, to maintain customer retention and satisfaction, there should be a system of exchange or return if desired by the customer. Order fulfillment includes several operations such as inventory management, packing, shipping, delivering and accounting. Hence, most of the operations involved are dealt without having to face the customers. TYPES OF ORDER FULFILLMENT Order fulfillment is of two types based on the usage of the process at a particular period of time. There is a conventional or traditional order fulfillment and E-commerce order fulfillment process. Traditional retailing of supply chain was used at the time of 1990s. In traditional retailing, inventory production is initiated at first and later is followed by pushing the product to customers. So, it begins with pulling and ends with pushing the product to customers. e- Commerce retailing deals...

For each theory, a basic model and its major implications are presented. These implications are compared to the available evidence. This is followed by an overview of pros and cons for each theory. A discussion of major recent papers and suggestions for future research are provided. Introduction The modern theory of capital structure began with and the famous proposition of Modigliani Miller (1958) that described the conditions of capital structure irrelevance. Since then, been changing these conditions to explain factors driving capital many economists have structure decisions. Harris and Raviv (1991) synthesized major theoretical literature in the field, related these to the known empirical evidence, and suggested promising avenues for future research. They argued...

...Birth Order and the Development of Personality Student’s name Institution Affiliation Introduction Birth is the process of bringing forth a new individual from the womb into a new environment. The young one new surroundings are set to determine the growth and development of the child's personality and behavior. New children tend to ape the valuable and meaningful characters from their parents. For instance, a child is first introduced to the society's aspect of love by the mother who first accords it the much-needed love and affection. Eventually, the child grows knowing that everyone should be accorded everyone regardless of their status in the society. On the other side of the flip, birth order is the sequence in which an individual is brought out of the womb. Birth order plays a crucial role in the growth and development of an individual's, character, personality, brilliance and various decisions in the personal growth process. This task, therefore, seeks to explain how the birth order in a family relates to an individual's personality growth and development, relationships, intelligence and social attitudes. A child's personality is well nurtured and cultured by his or her birth order in a family. For, instance the first-born kid is usually perceived to be excessively burdened with a responsibility which eventually molds him or her to be a charismatic leader, hardworking, perfectionist and loving. Types of birth order The different kinds of birth order...

...The result I got from the checklist was very accurate to the research prediction. As a firstborn, I am, most of the time, aggressive, driven, motivated, and authoritative. I also realized that my position in the birth order resulted into the dichotomous personalities of being the firstborn. Aside from being aggressive and authoritative, I also have nurturing and considerate tendencies. As I see it, the motivated aspect of me can be considered as the effect of my nurturing side and not just by the aggressive part. In his book, the Birth Order Book, Dr. Kevin Leman stated that firstborns are typically aggressive but at the same time, people pleasers. According to Mary Wallace, the author of Birth Order Blues, some of the personality differences...
