I like to go to school in Guatemala. And, my favorite subject were science because we have a lot of things to do—animals.

What I most miss is, friends, and people to be there. We have different things to do in Guatemala from here in USA. When I first came the most scary was lasting to be able in the school. Yeah...so don’t find my classes. I was scared about that then. …show more content…

I like art. I like to draw and all the things.

Math to me is hard. Math. I think that because I don’t know how to multiply and all those things, so, because I think that all things in mathematics needs to multiply. And that’s hard.

I just like to write about my country and all these things, so, I like to write in what, how I came here and how was life back there. I like to write and do the things in percent in my classes.

The thing more perfect is to me is speak, not write. I’m a talkative person. That’s with my friends, I’ve been. I talk a lot and I do everything with them when everybody’s talking and playing and all this stuff. But when everybody’s working, I work

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Guatemala

...Guatemala city , Guatemala “Why should I go to Guatemala and Dubai?”, is something you might ask. Well, they both bring wonderful warm weather. You can do so many activities like swimming and bike riding. If you live in a place that has bad weather you should take a vacation to these places. I chose Dubai and Guatemala. I chose Guatemala because I admire the historic background it has. Even though you're on a vacation you can still learn something . I chose Dubai because I like the fact that the city uses technology to lead its life. Also that it is so advanced in using technology. Now I had to plan my trip. First, I picked the flight and made a map plan for what I was doing. Then, I calculated the price of everything. Then, I found out more info about what the city facts are. I had shirts and shorts. I had sandals. I had some of my electronics. I had hats and a gigantic water bottle. Last, I had brought sunscreen and bathing suits. I also brought hygiene products to get ready in the morning. I woke up in the morning. I am excited for what I was about to do...

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Guatemala

...the vast Lake Atitlan, Guatemala’s natural beauty is clear. But, during my stay in the country, I came to realize that Guatemala’s natives too, radiate a certain beauty, much like the environment surrounding them. This inner beauty revealed itself through a handful of meaningful encounters, turning the 2017 Jesuit Medical Society Mission Trip into an experience I will not soon forget. My trip consisted of a 4 night stay in the city of Sololá, a capital city lying at the heart of the department of Sololá, Guatemala. A strip branching out from northern tip of Lake Atitlan, Sololá (the department) is home to about 30,000 people, primarily speaking Spanish,...

Personal Narrative: My Mission Trip To Guatemala

...On this trip God has revealed to me a lot about myself and what I am capable of doing if I let him have control instead of relying only on myself. This mission trip really helped me to give control to God for example I always get nervous when it comes to speaking about personal maters or praying in front of people who I don’t know but after a couple days in Guatemala I told myself that I would give all my worries and insecurities to God. It was after I did this that I realized that only relying on my own strength was preventing me from serving others to my full potential. Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding”. I also learned a lot from the people at the orphanage in Guatemala just...

...Diasporic Cross-Currents in Michael Ondaatje’s Anil’s Ghost and Anita Rau Badami’s The Hero’s Walk HEIKE HÄRTING N HIS REVIEW of Anil’s Ghost, Todd Hoffmann describes Michael Ondaatje’s novel as a “mystery of identity” (449). Similarly, Aritha van Herk identifies “fear, unpredictability, secrecy, [and] loss” (44) as the central features of the novel and its female protagonist. Anil’s Ghost, van Herk argues, presents its readers with a “motiveless world” of terror in which “no identity is reliable, no theory waterproof” (45). Ondaatje’s novel tells the story of Anil Tessera, a Sri Lankan expatriate and forensic anthropologist working for a UN-affiliated human rights organization. Haunted by a strong sense of personal and cultural dislocation, Anil takes up an assignment in Sri Lanka, where she teams up with a local archeologist, Sarath Diyasena, to uncover evidence of the Sri Lankan government’s violations of human rights during the country’s period of acute civil war. Yet, by the end of the novel, Anil has lost the evidence that could have indicted the government and is forced to leave the country, carrying with her a feeling of guilt for her unwitting complicity in Sarath’s death. On one hand, Anil certainly embodies an ethical (albeit rather schematic) critique of the failure of global justice. On the other, her character stages diaspora, in Vijay Mishra terms, as the “normative” and “ exemplary … condition of late modernity” (“Diasporic” 441) — a condition usually associated...

“an Investigation Into the Sacrificial Blood Rituals of the Maya Culture.”

...Extended Essay In World Religions [pic] “An Investigation into the Sacrificial Blood Rituals of the Maya Culture.” Abstract This essay focuses on the religious beliefs and practices of the ancient Mayan civilization that spanned from the borders of present day Honduras up to Mexico, but which only a certain amount is truly known. The principal reason why I chose to focus on these people was to challenge myself to try and gain a greater understanding of why they engaged in such strange rituals as bloodletting and even human sacrifice? What prompted them to commit such acts? I proposed that the performance of these actions, as they seemed to be so entwined with their culture, must have had something to do with their religious beliefs but which ones exactly, and how did they originate? It was with this in mind that I conducted an investigation into the sacrificial blood rituals of Maya culture. Thus, from conducting library based research - using books, Encyclopedias and the Internet - I found out that the Mayans had created for themselves a complex Creation Myth and pantheon of gods. It was to supposedly sustain these gods, who were constantly fighting against one another, that the Mayan conducted bloodletting and human sacrifices, believing that in return the gods would provide them the water needed to grow their maize. The gods, replenished by this blood, were able to maintain the harmony of the universe by preventing any one group of...

...official seeks elective national office, his (or her) reputation and what the country knows about the candidate’s background is initially determined by the work of local and regional media. Generally, those journalists do a competent job of reporting on the prospect’s record. In the case of Governor George W. Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin. I was one of those Texas journalists. I spent about a decade trying to find accurate information on Bush’s record in the Texas National Guard. My curiosity had been prompted by his failure to adequately answer a question I had asked him as a panelist in a televised debate with Ann Richards during the 1994 gubernatorial campaign. Eventually I published three books on Bush and his political consigliere, Karl Rove. During Bush’s presidency, many other...
