...Nicole Whaley PHI-103 August 7, 2011 Richard Irvin Personal Worldview: Initial Statement I believe we as human beings have distinguishing characteristic that we passed down to one another since the beginning of time. Things such as the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we act. It’s what we use to provide what we receive as normal when we are judging how best to live amongst our peers and as individuals. Human Nature is the tool we have used since the first human being was crated and placed upon this earth. It is the tool we are all born with that directs us in the decisions we make whether they are wise decisions or bad choices. Human nature is who we are as a species. Human nature is why today’s society is a place where self preservation is first and foremost important over all things. With that said, I know feel I can move onto the topic of my individual world view. I am Christian. I hold a Christians worldview and stand strong behind it. It is very much considered whenever I make decision about my life and I base my life style on it as well. I decided the best way for me to give a vivid account of what it is that I believe, that I should at least supply comparisons to what I believe so that the message that I am trying to get across is clear and understood. I believe that my worldview is the true and only worldview one should process and in my description of three other types of worldviews (New Age Movement, Pantheist, and Atheist), I hope that...

...The author, Shannon Alder once explained, “You will always feel insignificant if you never do anything to change the world or another person’s life, other than your own”. I have always agreed that you have to work unyieldingly to make something of yourself. I have also believed that doing something significant in the world would cure feeling small. The chilly air was brisk enough to cause me toF shudder inside my hoodie. As I hobbled across the beautiful, worn bricks with my crutches, the wind raced against my skin, and I could smell the salt from the bay. Listening to the rushing of the gentle waves pulsing against the bank nothing seemed to matter, not the throbbing in my ankle, nor the frigid air. When I entered the visitor center I was captivated with all of the images, videos, and information. A timeline of their accomplishments completely covered an entire wall in the enormous room. From their first students in 1845 to allowing women to enter the academy the wall bragged of their achievements. Their astounding, white granite halls did not fail to amaze me. With their original architecture from the 1800s, they were the most elegant structures I had seen....

...Growing up playing baseball and watching the World Series games on TV, it’s every young player’s dream to be able to be a part of the electrifying experience. In 2011, at the age of 13, I got my chance to attend my first World Series game. It was Game 6 of the World Series between the Texas Ranger and the St. Louis Cardinals. The day of the game, I came home from school flowing with excitement along with a bit of nervousness as this would be my first ever World Series game. Sitting in my room anxiously waiting for my dad to come home from work so that we could head down to the stadium to enjoy the pregame festivities, felt like an eternity. Suddenly, I hear the howling wind pick up followed by a loud crack of thunder and lightning....

...Spiritual healing within hospital environment “America’s hospitals have come under attack with shortage of nurses, healthcare providers increased number of patients seen daily: patients feel the impact with shorter physician visits or less attention by nurse, social workers and other healthcare providers. While healthcare providers may experience burn out, patients feeling alienated” (Puchalski& McSkimming,2006) . This has created a task driven work environment leaving out the emotional and spiritual aspect of the patient. At times placing the patient at risk, more and more often we are seeing sicker patient being discharged home earlier. With increased re admittance rates, adding increased burden on family and health system. This cycle causes frustration and increased nurse burn out, decreased compassion for patients, with in the health care system. There is obvious need to reassess the current hospital model and incorporating and more healing model “which would reintegrate spiritual awareness onto the role of each health care provider”(Dunn,2010) Hospital Environment Current hospital environment is cold sterile, nosey and not conducive to patient being able to rest. Upon admittance the patient many emotions including fear, anxiety, hopeless. If there is also a task driven work environment among staff that only contributes to those feeling of being lost and only being a patient number. It becomes the nurse’s responsibility to promote a healing unseen environment...

...Personal Worldview Inventory Mary Beth F. Salwierz Grand Canyon University Personal Worldview Inventory The concept of spirituality is a part of the human experience and encompasses the search for meaning in life. It is a sense that there is a power greater than ourselves and it connects us to each other and other creatures. Spirituality is about seeking a meaningful connection with something bigger than yourself, which can result in positive emotions, such as peace, awe, contentment, gratitude, and acceptance ("Spirituality," n.d.). Philosophically the search for spirituality encompasses asking the questions “Who, what and why are we, what is my purpose and where did I come from?” ("Spirituality," n.d.). Some people seek the answers to these questions through their religion while others find them through art or nature. Sociology’s definition of spirituality is based on the study of relationships where people influence other people. Sociology describes spirituality as spiritual practices, rituals, and social morality of a group of people (Seaward, 2013, p. 34). Thus sociology would encompass the idea of religious pluralism. Religious pluralism is the concept that no one religion is the way to god. Rather it recognizes that there are religions other than Christianity that seek to commune with god ("Pluralism," n.d.). The ecumenical concept has only recently become part of western culture ("Pluralism," n.d.). People perceive their lives through the lens of their...

...Since the day I started school twelve years ago, I never had friends. Never did I do anything to others, but I felt as if everyone hated me. No one would sit with me at lunch or work with me in class. I was always picked last for everything, and I was never invited to anything outside of school. For my entire life I felt alone and isolated from the “real” world. I initially wanted to just end my life. I thought that if I was no longer here, I wouldn’t have to struggle with all the hate I received. I was so close to going forward with this idea, but this girl named Alyssa stopped me. I didn’t know a lot about her. All I knew was that I was happy she came into my life when she did. I could tell she understood me. She would talk to me and help me out in school. It was as if I had finally gotten a friend....

...Assisting people, detecting problems, and evaluating solutions to issues, are things that interest me. Perceiving delinquency, families being ruined, and destroyed, have made me realize people live difficult lives. Beholding parents taking children just because they want custody of their child, seeing teens make the wrong decisions and experiencing a challenging outcome as a result of those decisions, finally seeing children and teens abused in their homes. If we want the world to change, then people should take initiative and try to change it. Unlike some, I will try to make a change in the world by opening a family and juvenile law firm that will help troubled teens and families experiencing difficult times. At Wilson’s family law firm,...

...For many young girls, being told by Princess Belle that they are going to Disney World is utterly life-changing. As an assistant manager for a princess party business, I get to dress up and give these little girls this life-changing news on a regular basis. These events are organized by the Make a Wish Foundation and the little girls are hospital patients with terminal cancer. While seeing their faces light up when they see me is one of the best parts of my job, what one of these precious kids made me realize about myself is absolutely priceless. The first time I volunteered for an event for the Make a Wish Foundation, my life completely changed. A little girl with leukemia had just been given the clearance to go on the vacation, but she still didn’t know. As soon as she saw me she stopped dead in her tracks, then sprinted toward me and gave me the biggest hug I could ever receive. I told her why I was there, and gave her the big news, and there wasn’t a dry eye at the whole party. I spent the rest of the time getting to know her, and I had never met someone so full of life and sparkle. Despite going through one of the hardest things imaginable, she was the happiest person I’ve ever met. When it was time for me to go, I knelt down and made her pinky promise that I would see her again. She promised with a giggle and hugged me goodbye, but I couldn’t...

...Personal Responsibility in Our World Today Personal Responsibility in Our World Today Gerald Lee GEN/200 November 12, 2012 Kim Marzella Personal Responsibility in Our World Today Whereas some may argue that personal responsibility does not equal maturity or productivity, personal responsibility is very important because it defines an individual as a mature, productive person who takes responsibility for his or her actions and the impact these actions will have on his or her society. What is it to be responsible? Garrath Wiliams defines responsibility as this: “The responsible person can be relied on to judge and to act in certain morally desirable ways; in the case of more demanding (“more responsible”) roles, the person can be trusted to exercise initiative and to demonstrate commitment; and when things go wrong, such a person will be prepared to take responsibility for dealing with things. One way of putting this might be to say that the responsible person can be counted on take her responsibilities seriously. “What is it to be responsible?” The philosophical literature has explored three broad approaches to this question: 1. Human beings have free will, that is, distinctive causal powers or a special metaphysical status that separate them from everything else in the universe. 2. Human beings can act on the basis of reason(s). 3. Human beings have a certain set of moral...

...World Adoption Month – When my husband adopted my daughter from a previous marriage, it was a celebrated day. But before he adopted her, I sat him down, as his lawyer-wife, and explained to him what this all meant. Not that the sweet, little blonde girl, who was already calling him “Papa” could do so legitimately. I meant what it all meant - legally. First of all, adoption has the effect of cutting off any legal ties between the birth parent and the child. In other words, if my daughter’s biological father happens to end up a million dollars and dies without a will, my daughter doesn’t get to share in the inheritance. Likewise, if my husband dies ten years from now without a will (that would NEVER happen, by the way), my daughter would...

...In the 90s, there was a show called “Boy Meets World”. I, of course, wasn’t around for it, but Mr. Feeny once said: “Education is not about obscure facts and little test scores. Education is about the overall effect of years of slow absorption; Concepts, philosophies, approaches to problem solving.” Mr. Feeny extracted the purpose of education in the show, which demonstrates the learning process. However, aside from Mr. Feeny, when I look back on all my years of education, some of my fondest memories are from elementary; specifically the third grade. My memories at them are vague nevertheless, my teacher Mrs. Burt is most prominent. I have always wanted to become a teacher when I was older, and Mrs. Burt made that ambition stronger. She was...

...because the words are so profoundly true. In the end we cannot blame anyone but ourselves for the way our life turns out. As I began writing this paper, I really had to think about how I felt about my own personal responsibility. I had to consider how my decisions affect those that are in my personal circle. Realizing the choices that I make now or in the future could have a paramount effect on my family and closes friends. Yes, I am responsible for how others view me and take into account the person that I have come to be. Being personally responsible means; being accountable for everything that happens in my life, including my actions, attitude and the decisions I make about such things as my health, how I handle myself on my job, being a good parent and being an excellent student. Personal responsibility also means that for every cause there is an effect, every action has a reaction. Is this reaction positive or negative? Well, that depends solely on how one handles the situation life throws your way. My true happiness depends on the degree to which I recognize and accept the consequences of my actions and realize that each action has a direct impact on whether I reach my goals, accomplish my dreams and make my life meaningful. I have recently decided to take personal responsibility for my life and finish what I started so many years ago. I always promised myself when I had finished raising my son I would return to school and complete my degree. That moment has arrived...

...Psychology Major Module 2: Assignment: Instructions and Grading Rubric DIRECTIONS: Personal Credo: Psychology is a science that pervades nearly every moment of every day of our lives. To provide just one small example, consider the complex psychological and physiological processes involved in forming thoughts, communicating with others, and remembering both happy and sad memories. The very manner in which you engage (or do not engage) with others in the world around you has been derived from a series of influences on you, both genetic and environmental, that have shaped you into the person you are today. Thus, we are the amalgamation of collective influences on us, from our families and friends to our coworkers and larger society. It is my firm conviction that to appreciate who we are and what we stand for, it is important to periodically self-reflect and consider our life experiences, those things important to us, and our current direction in life. To assist you in doing this, I will ask that each of you complete a “personal credo.” This term may be somewhat alien to you, so I will explain what materials are to be included in this brief summary of who you are. Submit your assignment via the Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.) The word “credo” relates to a personal set of values or beliefs. For this class, conceptualize your personal credo as a brief autobiographical statement that details not only important background...

...Bring your own device Let’s take a moment to understand the opportunity and the downside of people utilizing their own personal device in the work force. As IT departments struggle to keep up with yearly technology changes, company employees increasingly want to utilize their own electronic equipment to access corporation data. People utilize, bring you own device (BYOD),bring your own tablet (BYOT), Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) and Bring Your Own PC (BYOPC) All of these have evolved to empower workforces through the so-called 'computerization of IT. As these services are growing fast, these can be serious risks to company’s data. Richard Absalom, an analyst at Ovum, believes that BYOD will happen whether a company plans for it or not. He says: "Trying to stand in the path of computerized mobility is likely to be a damaging and futile exercise." The best thing that a company or enterprise can do, is to be aware of the benefits and understand the risks. Despite the serious risks involved, there are serious benefits and advantages businesses can benefit from them, it can potentially increasing employee satisfaction, employees can work more flexible, cost savings, it reduces hardware spend, software licensing, device maintenance and productivity gains, employees are happier when they use their own personal device. As I have mentioned, there are risks involved when employees uses their own contrivance in the work force. The questions arise who owns the device...
